  1. On a positive note, I got back rear brake calipers back from refurb. As I suspected, I had a couple of sticky pistons due to a build up on aluminium oxide. So after an ultrasonic clean and polish of the pistons, new set of seals they’re good to go I’m hoping, at some point next year, to sort my rear brembo conversion out, but in the mean time these will do
  2. It’s part of the reason. The money would also be better spent on finishing the car at the moment, aswell as saving my passport stamp for a car related overnighter for later in the year.
  3. I’m sad to say that I’m not going to make this. Substantial delays state side with my engine build mean I won’t get my engine delivered until a couple of days before the AGM, which simply doesn’t leave me enough time to have the car ready. As we only have one other car, I can’t leave the Mrs and the kids without transport for a weekend. I’m going to push on and have the car back on the road for Simplt Japanese. I’m super gutted about not being able to show those who voted for my car at COTY at the clubs AGM, especially given the 30 year anniversary.
  4. I don’t know if you’ve got one on stock Jim, but would it be worth approaching an AC company to see if they can reproduce them?
  5. Sorry, I misread your original question. I’m using a Wix filter that has one built it. However, as I thought more about the bypass issue I realised a couple of things. 1) I’ll be changing the filter every 12 months or 3000 miles anyway, which isn’t going to be enough time to block a filter to the point where I’d need the bypass valve. 2) if I do block a filter that quickly, the engines likely toast anyway so a bypass valve wouldn’t offer me any extra protection
  6. Excuse the crude drawing In short the OEM oil tree has been replaced with a BDE oil tree plate. Hot oil is fed along -10 line to the Improved Racing remote filter head. That will be mounted near the AC dryer. I’ve removed the OE cooler lines to give me more space While the engine warms up, oil is passed through the filter and returned back to the engine bypassing the oil cooler. Once up to 185F, the thermostat directs all the oil through the filter and to the oil cooler. From the cooler, back to the IR filter head and back to the engine.
  7. So I’ve been cracking on with the to do list. Firstly I’ve ordered a few parts. The Improved Racing thermostatic oil filter relation kit and a pair of Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonators (which will replace the useless LongLife resonators in my H pipe). I think the only bits I need to order now are a new oil coolers, some dash 10 braided hose and some AN10 fittings for the remote oil filter and cooler lines This evening I also finished my first attempt at retrimming some interior parts, the rear quarter panel vinyl sections. I don’t think they came out too badly consider my inexperience. The colour is a tiny bit darker and the faux texture differs slightly, but it’s close enough that I doubt anyone would notice
  8. Crank has been modified, machined, welded and balanced and bar a final clean is good to go
  9. Hey bud. Shame to hear you’re selling up, but sometime life just happens. Hope alls well otherwise
  10. FINALLY, it’s in the assembly room And an interesting comparison between the Wiseco/Eagle combo vs CP/Saenz combo. Wiseco 88mm piston and Eagle forged rod weigh 863 grams combined (the setup I had on my previous build) CP 88mm piston and Saenz Tri Beam forged rod weigh 754 grams. Total weight saving of the internal rotating assembly: 0.65kg!
  11. Got a couple of brill F day pressies And my Z on some new boxers
  12. Apparently it’s been renamed for U.K. and Europe as “LeMans ‘66” Does look good though
  13. I’m hoping for a video call with Mitch this evening to try and get a firm date. The unknown is the heads as they’re CNC machined by an outside company..... and they’ve had them for 5 months!
  14. Well I’ll be surprised if I make the AGM
  15. Started another of the “to do list” jobs today. As I mentions a few posts back, I’d sourced a set of mk1 Audi TT arch liners. They utilise a vent in each front arch for air passing through the intercooler on one side and oil cooler on the other. So today I set about grafting the vents into my arch liners I scored an outline on my arch liner And made the cuts I then used the hot knife fitting on my soldering iron, plastic zip ties as a “filler” and set about plastic welding them in place. It’s been a while since I’ve done any plastic welding, but I think it came out ok. No doubt the second one I do will be a bit neater. Given that VAG decided the TT needed such a vent for escaping air, i believe these vents will improve the efficiency of the SMICs by preventing positive air pressure building up behind the coolers and slowing air being fed through the coolers down. I’m going to dig out the smoke machine and leaf blower for a crude test to see how they compare to an unmodified arch liner I have knocking around
  16. What an utter arse of a job that was to remove! So the Milspec harness has been put on hold for now. For two reasons really, 1) I want use of the car this summer and I want to attend the AGM in it. 2) I want to future proof the MilSpec loom by having the required harnesses for a Haltech I/O expander box and CAN hub. So I’ve just ordered a new ‘95 OEM harness that I will use for the next year, and then I’ll sell both looms in the future to recoup some of the costs for the Milspec. I’m also due to have some custom intercooler ducts made this coming weekend. While the OEM ducts do bolt to my Z1 SMIC’s, they obstruct the top 3 and bottom 3 rows the the core.... far from efficient. The new ones will be made of aluminium and will expose the full face of the SMICS. Furthermore, I’ve sourced some arch liners from a mk1 Audi TT, so I can harvest the intercooler ducts from them and graft them onto my arch liners..... of the Germans fit them from factory, they must do something!
  17. Well it’s been a while since I’ve updated this, for good reason. The later months of the Mrs pregnancy had complications with something called Obstetric Cholestasis, which is basically a liver malfunction caused by the pregnancy, so frequent trips to the hospital has taken up most of my time. However I’m pleased to say little Henry joined us safe and well on the 29th April So as you can imagine, the Z hasn’t had much attention recently. A couple of updates from EPR. Engine is now in assembly room and is due to go together next week. However we noticed an issue with the Ross Performance dampener..... their Race pulley doesn’t have any provision for an Air Con belt. Mitch and I were a little miffed as their website makes no mention of this. Having had a few conversations with Ross Performance, Mitch and I decided to switch to an ATi Super Damper with a custom mounted 12 tooth ring for crank position. I’m having some custom ducts made for my SMIC’s next weekend. The OE ducts on Z1 SMIC’s do kind of fit, but they obstruct the top 3 and bottom 3 rows of the cooler, so reducing their efficiency. The new ducts will expose the entire face of the SMIC. Other than that, the engine should fly together and hoping I’ll have it first week of June. Still aiming to be up and running for the AGM, but it’ll be tight
  18. Later the better for me
  19. Subscribed. Looking forward to seeing the finished results
  20. Happy birthday Si
  21. That doesn’t appear to be a Nissan part number bud
