  1. hmm do a search but at a rough guess i think in the region of 300ish kgs
  2. oh dear, has this engine ever been out as far as your aware?im only saying as if all journal nuts are a tad loose id be concerned, but then it could be due to the velocity of the rod letting go! stock gauge is pants and really only starts working at around 112oc by which point were boiling, aftermarket is best and probably one of the first things you should do IMO
  3. no there not stretch bolts so reusable, however check the allen key heads are not rounded or look poor last thing you want is it to round whilst your half way through torquing to 90lb

yep and about 4feet of 3/8" extensions :D get a mate to hold a breaker bar as said above as its much easier than choking the bar on the floor ;)
  5. nope it dont sound like turbo seals,if it starts when cold and dissapears when up to temp, theres a possibillty that the valve stems are not sealing, once car is up to temp, the valves seat better giving a better seal. typical examples are for the following. turbos blue or white smoke smoke on acceleration/boost smoke on let off/overrun smoke at idle up to temp rings, bores smoke on acceleration oil consumption poor running/low compression all of the above
  6. nope you have 2 14mm nuts holding the engine which as are said are bolted on each side of the crossmember engine is supported by gearbox aswell so thats all it needs
  7. most probable, does the clutch bite high?i would start by replacing the fluid or should i say treacle :D cant harm it
  8. paul is a good bloke,no one has said he is a bad mechanic-far from it ;)
  9. all cams have a white mark on with a dimple so turn sprocket and align with plate behind cam sprocket which also has a dimple on,do the same with all four you might find a couple will almost be at the marks before you do that set the bottom end to TDC on crank sprocket there again is a small dimple align this with the mark on the oil pump neck which will become obvious with a good clean oh if you cant move camshaft sprockets,or they are silly tight on either bank, chances are you have bent valves :(
  10. just pull the engine.leave box in bud and we had a z in a while ago with a holed sump same thing conrod nut come loose and journal said goodbye and let go!IIRC the torque setting in the manual are about 30lb for the journal nuts which on a reciporating engine @whatever rpm constantly seems a crap setting tbh
  11. ooops valves are bent then :( just had a customer in after removing lower cover it was evidant the teeth had been stripped on the crank sprocket, cam pulleys did not move on NS bank so new heads needed :( hope it gets sorted for you mate,if you need any advice give us a shout
  12. depending how close to the arches you are talking about chris,if you havnt already you could opt for rose tension rods, and ajust the wheel in or out of arch, then get it specs checked at a 4wheel aligment, just an idea?expensive way of doing it but depends how much you want those brakes
  13. most probably courvette man[chaz] of the forum, one of the nicest stock looking 300s you will find, although it aint really stock :D
  14. could also be lack of lubrication to one of the rod bearings causing a bearing to spin and press the lower journal off,and in turn smashing through the sump/block oil pump low oil blocked line or feed sorry to hear about that mate,no matter wether you can build the engine its still a PITA hope you sort it ok
  15. if it was the waterpump it would be bearing related and would make some form of permanant grinding or wurring noise not intermitant
  16. if it squels then it will be belt related,if its for a few seconds then clears then i would double check drive belts at the front, what sizes are they? should be.. uk alternator 1040 j-spec 1015 power steering 925 a/c 965 belt tension should be adequate if to tight or to loose it may squeal,do you have an aftermaket underdrive pulley?
  17. i can imagine a big butch fooker getting out of one of them.babe magnet! they were looking at the car mike
