  1. Just one point from earlier, engines are only at their best in warmer climates if you assume lots of short journeys, as it takes far more fuel getting the engine up to running temps. An engine will generally run much better when it's cold, with nice damp, dense cold air. So long journeys in cold weather should give the same or better mpg than an equivalent journey in hot weather.
  2. The glowplugs will make little or no difference to mpg after the engine has started. Out of interest what has the mpg dropped from/to ? Does it smoke normally ? Does it smoke when you accelerate? Has the air filter been replaced ? Does it 'feel' like it's running normally ? Have you run any injector cleaner through it ?
  3. Everybody please note, we have a new postal address. I know it's seldom used these days, but just in case ... http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?90821-Club-Contacts
  4. Make sure it matches the right specs before you bung it in everything !
  5. The tank is a nominal capacity, but that doesn't automatically include the length of the pipe that that goes to it. A number of times I have "put in more than the car holds", on different vehicles.
  6. They are not connected to the ECU, just the dashboard light. Don't cut the wires, just push them back up through the floor holes and leave them under the carpet. Obviously block the hole with a new grommet.
  7. I'd say it's more about the seals either melting or going hard, leading the nitogen to leak out. Doubt whether anyone has ever taken their shocks off just to go into a paint oven though.
  8. I have just enabled Dan's PMs. Not sure why they had expired.
  9. Happy Birthday Mike.
  10. Not all ECUs have that little potentiometer on the board. Didn't realise that some cars didn't have diag ports though. The problems you have may not be solved through the diags, a ConZult may help. As it's intermittent I would start checking the coilpack electrical connections.
  11. You must be so proud ! LOL
  12. It just so happens ...... that I know that chip was one from SE Nissan. I don't have the exact spec, but it would have been one of the many developments that Pete (boss of SE Nissan) made. The 440 usually represents the power it made on the car for which it was developed. If it works well on your car then keep it. If you want something custom, then you'd best see Noz.
  13. I think the Nissan FAST cd will give you the engine number for each VIN, so with a bit of judicious searching you could probably work out the date of the car that the engine came from.
  14. If the fan starts immediately it is either a corrupt/incompatible chip or a dud ECU. As Noz says, try a different chip first before condemning the ECU. I had about 6 dud ECUs that someone took of my hands to fix, can't remember who it was now, so don't know whether he was successful.
  15. We have done a few "valuations" in the past and it has usually been based on the estimated value of the 2nd hand parts if the car was broken. If the insurer has really messed you around then threaten them with the Ombudsman.
  16. Hi, marked as Subscribed now. Sorry for the delay but I don't get any notification of bank payments and most people use Paypal these days.
  17. I have Samco, no bits of extra stainless or anything. Nice, quality single piece, end-to-end with the minimum number of joints possible.
  18. Isn't the emergency number changing to 911 ? LOL :D
  19. I'm not sure I'm entirely comfortable with that reference !!!!! ;)
  20. I'm pretty certain that the Devin map is for a manual, unless I've just forgotten ...
  21. Oh yes, no problem.
  22. Looks like we will be there, for lunch at least. No chance of having the Z, but will at least be in a Nissan, just not one of which you'd be proud !
  23. Haynes is the best motor museum in the UK - no exceptions.
  24. Sounds like you have an injector problem, most likely electrical, least likely failed injector I reckon.
  25. You can have classic insurance on a Jap car, but it will be quite limited mileage and won't permit driving to work.
