  1. and here's a link from qualifying
  2. Pete's trying to get me to do another this year in readiness for TOTB. I've managed a 12.2 but if I can sort out my 60 ft I should get into the 11s. Mind you that's easier said than done as I know from experience lol. If I can borrow Petes drag tyres then we might give it a go I'll get dates from him.
  3. plus some pix by the time attack official photographer and gives you an idea of the quality of the competition
  4. Yes that was a cracking motor but here's a video of the class winning evo3 with a bit of 300zx rear end for the first few minutes lol
  5. Thanks for the write up Pete. It was a good weekend with lots of learning. I'm fairly happy with the result and when you consider that the cars we were competing against are serious racers and weigh up to 600kg less than mine it puts things into perspective. I'm happy that I chose to stick to the principle of fully road legal car keeping the interior in place etc and not going mental with weight saving or putting 'carlos fandangos' on (showing my age there lol) or the dreaded ironing board. I'm not gonna say never gonna happen but not this year anyway :) When we pulled in it was a simple check of tyre pressures, a look at the fluid levels, and fuel up ready for the next session. I gotta say I marvel at the amount of tinkering it takes to get those extra couple of seconds lol. Anyway here's a video showing the final. I made a few mistakes and the first lap you see was my fastest. Maybe could of stole another second or two but my rear brakes are coming on too hard and tend to bring the rear out a little so no trailing the brakes into the bend - I was a little early on the brakes too the barriers just before the mountain are not very forgiving. This issue with the brakes might help when we do TOTB as the handling circuit is very tight and locking the rear to bring the back into the bend might save half a second. Once again thanks to Pete for all his help and support. Naturally I have to thank Dan Turner of AME who has managed to build me an engine that can mix it with the best but has the kind of reliability which I need.
  6. No I've driven with my R888 in the wet and it's ridiculous. I've got an old set of PS2 that I'll be using and the forecast is bad. At least it will even things out there's some light motors there :)
  7. Doesn't seem like a lot to me for a brand new gearbox TBH. Yes would be cheaper to rebuild I guess :)
  8. Come on James pull your finger out :) Have you had stickers yet? I didn't want to put them on but been told it's a must. Probably take about an hour there's so many lol. Have you got wet tyres it's looking likely isn't it. Keeping fingers crossed you get done in time perhaps you can talk Jimmer into coming along too.
  9. I bought mine from MyNismo performancenissanparts cost me £1768.84 plus £154 duty. Not sure what others paid but I was quoted £2700 in the UK :)
  10. Sorry I never made it no excuse just got a bit lazy. Hope it all went well :) I need to turn up soon as might fancy this after I've done my TOTB
  11. Hey good luck with that. What day is it this weekend? No promises as I'm picking my car up from silverstone so will be busy but would be good to see it in action :)
  12. Hope it's nothing serious I'll be keeping fingers crossed for you mate. Have you thought about entering TOTB too? Might be a bit much though if you're gonna try to do the entire Time Attack season. Wish i could have done but funds don't permit and I'm making TOTB my main priority.
  13. Until the wonderful people of the great Royal Wooton Bassett and Help for Heroes came along our military didn't exist and no-one cared and that's the main reason I support them TBH. I have set up a donation page here http://www.bmycharity.com/bobgenie Not sure how it'll fly but I'm hoping even if I only make a few quid for H4H it's better than nothing
  14. Yes there were quite a few cars doing only handling and some just doing quarters. Ideally the idea is to prove how good the car is as an all rounder which means lots of compromise when it comes to set-up but there's nothing wrong with turning up and competing to your cars strengths. It is after all a really good day out :) If all you need is a helmet I'll lend you one for the day :) As a matter of interest I support help for heroes and that's the only sticker on my car :) I might be up for taking passengers on the Saturday if they donate to help for heroes but I'll have to work that out over the next month or so.
  15. You'll note that I was hinting at the possibility that some of you guys might stop talking about how good your car is and actually show us. If you're happy to live in fantasy land then that's fine :) There were plenty of cars that only did the handling course actually so no excuses Mr Mad :)
  16. Ten of the Best X1 is happening on the 27th and 28th July http://www.totb.co.uk/ I have already entered and I am really optimistic to do well this year :) When you add it all up it's the most perfect event for any driver who truly wants to find out how good they or their car is. It costs a measly £100 for the entire weekend!!!! That could mean at least 20 runs on the quarter plus the top speed runs. That could easily mean 20 sessions on the handling circuit over the two days. That's including camping for the weekend!!! So instead of measuring your performance in cyberland by showing your dyno graph or the amount of mods you've done this is the chance to walk the walk :) Not only that if we could enter a one make team with at least 5 cars we would all get given a bonus 4 points added to the overall amount and helping us to compete against the bigger and better organised teams :) So don't mess about. Get on the website and pay your hundred quid and let's show them what the 300zx can do. Don't leave it too late as if we can get a decent team now then it's an opportunity to help each other in the run in. I'm hoping that Slick Pete will be the gaffer and that he'll bring his slickie along as well :) bobgenie
  17. I think a decent custom will cost you more in practice. Get one from Z1 and ask them to post via UPS (not USPS) or fedex. UPS do not hold on to the goods waiting for customs clearance they deliver it first then bill you so if you ordered today there's every chance you'd have the goods within a week :)
  18. I bought my wheels from here and they do lots of different rays/volk centre caps. Probably have whatever you need in stock http://www.part-box.com/products.php?cat=4063-centre-caps
  19. I need my comfort don't forget I'm a man of a certain age :) I have paid for time attack at cadwell may do brands too but my main focus is TOTB
  20. Thanks Daffy sorry to hear about your cars demise must be a sickener It's certainly doing it's job :) time attack at cadwell will see two zeds competing in May (mine and Jaffa). Looks like this year is going to be the most competitive ever with some serious cars taking part in clubman RWD so we will need to push hard to make our mark. I'll be aiming to beat last years time but I've the feeling there will be a few cars bettering it by quite a bit :) I will be making a better video for the meet. Cars ready to go all i gotta do is get there.
  21. Contact Daztomo on this site if he can't do it himself he will point you in right direction
  22. here's some footage from the weekend. i have edited it quite a lot as with only a dozen cars ot was more like a test session on our own mostly :) I will be filming all events this year so hope to be able to upload something more interesting later in the year
  23. A quick update for the day. As Pete said very few cars on track so the car managed a total of approx 80 miles on the track and about £140 of fuel was used too. The morning was wet to start but drying out by around two thirty in the afternoon. I was using pilot sports so while not great for the track generally they did suit the damp conditions. Here's a link to the scooby that Pete was talking about http://www.scoobyclinic.com/team_scoobyclinic.htm and yes we were well beaten but not embarrassed in the greater scheme of things :) When it dryed up in the afternoon and the 4x4 advantage was reduced I wanted to have a go but was not to be as their driveshaft broke. I was satisfied that we managed to leave a prepped impreza for dust but it was probably the apprentice driving at the time so i won't make a meal of it lol. Despite only wearing road tyres i managed around 1.45 lap times during the later afternoon. That compares well to the time attack clubman rear wheel drive lap record of 1.41 done in the middle of summer with R888 so I am happy that we will be competitive. If i find the time i will upload some footage however it won't be this week as mega busy. Putting this in to perspective you have to bear in mind that this is a road car and full of compromises. MOT needed shortly but it's taxed and insured and (clutch apart lol) drives on the road beautifully. When the scooby clinic car and some of the other cars came into the paddock they were surrounded by a team of mechanics and helpers wheels off changing boost new bits here and there. Me and Pete just opened the bonnet and smiled while drinking coffee and the occasional bite to eat. Yes of course after every event there will be work to do and depending on how much cash I've got spare at the time will measure how hard I can push and break it. I'm confident that this particular 20 year old car is going to be competitive and while my main focus is TOTB I'd like to see how we fare at time attack too.
  24. I am sat in my race truck at Cadwell Park drinking a bottle of wine in preparation for testing tomorrow. I gotta gopro fitted ready to go so a few vids hopefully. Nearly time to get head down Cadwell a long drive from Southampton :-)
  25. Here's a few updates about the project. After about 3500 miles the engine needed a rebuild which is now done. Happy to say that it's running fantastic so far slightly down on power at 650rwhp but up on torque so it's a faster car in practice :) Good news is I do have solid lifters so once this year is out and have done time attack and TOTB I might consider changing diff and going for the top speed run again but don't hold your breath lol. Moved battery to the back and a few other minor mods subsequent to the last couple of test runs at silverstone and cadwell. Lost clutch at cadwell and it appears pipe burned through on the manifolds so that's sorted. Here's a link or two if you're interested :) http://www.facebook.com/advancedmotorsportengineering#!/photo.php?fbid=10150662081714259&set=a.10150571781184259.400359.105250384258&type=1&theater http://www.facebook.com/advancedmotorsportengineering#!/advancedmotorsportengineering
