Time Attack Round 1
Not sure what James is up to but my car isn't even close to being ready. I am hoping to do some testing early May so that I can poodle around at Japfest but my current thinking is I will only be doing Brands Hatch with a slight possibility of Cadwell too. This year is devoted to rebuilding, testing, and ten of the best.

You're keeping a bit tight-lipped James, c'mon spill the beans what you up to?

on the road again
Steve, the intention is to take the race car if I can finish it and if I can get the noise down. If not it'll be the 2+2 :)

Slow but sure have been seriously held up awaiting parts but now they're all in the UK and things are taking shape. Here are a few photos showing some of the work taking place. Engine being finished by Jimmer and he has lent me a dummy engine so Dan can use it to cut and shut for the turbo install. Look how clean and simple the wiring is looking. The target is less than 1200kg and more than 900bhp should be fun!!! That's a five speed PPG helicol cut dogbox. It really held me back last season but hopefully we have ironed out the wrinkles and this year it will prove to be a winner. TOTB anyone????

on the road again
At long last I've got the road zed where it needs to be. Thanks to Jimmer who has put the final touches but it's been a long hard slog to sort out a load of really nice parts and put them together in such a way that it feels like it came out of the factory - just a lot quicker! It's running at 580rwhp but it's so easy to drive I'd be happy enough to let my girlfriend take it for a spin. We went out to blow the cobwebs and it felt right. Then went to the shops where she took the photos and yes they're not the best but we will take some proper ones next time the sun comes out :)

Which motorbike?
If you got bored with the 600 it won't be long before you get bored with these. I'll be selling my ZX10R shortly to help fund my race car. It's very fast highly modified but in many years of riding sports bikes this is not only the smallest it's also the most comfortable. It's over your budget looking for £5400 but it cost over £20k to build and has only done 5500 miles. Too many toys and not enough time :-( Having said all that you want a test ride you're welcome but you'll need to stick £5400 in my hand first in case you bin it lol

Inc86's Zed
So if someone reading this placed a bid for £14950 you'd win it at £15000! If i was you I'd retract that particular bid :)

Picked the car up from Pete today and wanted to say a big public thank you for his and Paul's work. They have done a fantastic job and along with Bodymech's fine work have given me a motor to be proud of. If the rest can match the quality of what we have so far then I'm going to have a serious motorsport contender! There is still a lot of work to do just to get the car rolling but with a bit of luck testing can commence sometime April or May. I'm afraid there won't be a lot to show for a whle but once we get testing I've no doubt Pete will post some pix up. Perhaps one of him shatting himself as we miss the braking point at Hanger Straight who knows :)

Speciality Z stock internals/turbos claim 499rwhp
Actually I'm gonna retract a little bit. Used race fuel years ago on an RG500 and saw good gains as a result of cooling (I think) and some increase in the energy value of the fuel. So 2 stroke saw an improvement but didn't see squat in 4 stroke other than knock resistance. That's my experience anyway :)

Speciality Z stock internals/turbos claim 499rwhp
Like I said :confused1: I've used race fuel. Put race fuel in it's makes no difference however it enables you to make changes and it's those changes that make more power. Add more degrees of timing and you'll get more power on any fuel but you'll also get detonation the higher octane simply prevents detonation.

Speciality Z stock internals/turbos claim 499rwhp
Well James knows a lot more than me but have to disagree a little with this one :) power comes from boost the race fuel will just let you boost more safely. For example if you can achieve max boost on pump fuel then race fuel will not give more power but will increase the safety factor for detonation. My old TD05 setup maximum/optimum boost was around 1 bar and this could be achieved on pump fuel but was borderline for detonation so we used water injection to increase the safety factor. In my case no amount of race fuel would have increased power or if it did would be minimal however the safety factor would be greater and therefore less chance of blowing the engine. However with the bigger turbos such as those that James uses detonation will occur well before maximum boost and race fuel will enable more boost hence more power :) that's my take on it in simple terms but I don't get more technical than that anyway

Thanks Gary Yes James you know that better than most :) I am interested in your plate on top of the gearbox. Am I right in believing that you have a solid plate rather than the flimsy affair that the rest of us have to suffer? If so info on that would be useful. When the car is ready to go I am going to get a few hours testing at Bruntingthorpe. This is specifically for the brakes as it is impossible to properly test them on track even when not racing. I'm think very high speed straight line with the guys standing at the braking point to assess what's happening. Do a few runs and I'm confident we can make the brakes work much much better. Perhaps you should join us as I think the pedal box has a lot more to offer if we can set it up properly.

Thanks to Bodymech for a fantastic job. I am very pleased they have been extremely professional and offer a five star service. There is still a lot of work still to do and it's unlikely that the car will be ready much before TOTB but I am hoping that funds permit it's ready by then. The wide arches are necessary to help improve the handling of the car. I would have probably preferred to have kept the original arches from an aesthetic view point but needs must where we are looking to improve handling and I feel that the extra width will give me what I need. The front end is surprisingly strong and it's takes a lot of punishment. Track use has seen front tyres being replaced far quicker than the rears and I am confident this will result in a faster cornering speed. Think they look pretty good too :) Jimmer has stripped the engine and it looks like very little is needed but we are rebuilding with new seals etc to make it as strong and reliable as possible. Also Jim will be ensuring that there are no weak points and will rebuild/replace to get the engine ready for the new turbo system. A pair of GTX3071 turbos are currently being modified in the states by Ash Powers and along with a little squirt of NOS at the appropriate time(s) should make driving the car particularly interesting! To say that I am excited would be an understatement. However there's a long way to go. Pete has still quite a bit to do but we know his and Pauls work is going to be there or thereabouts early January. I still have to get some work done on the cage to try and stiffen the front a little. A custom loom has to be fitted. Easier said than done and all the gauges will be lost so that everything feeds into the Racepak. It doesn't help to go faster but the new loom should improve reliability and will help to reduce the usual gremlins which we have suffered over the past couple of years. Despite all the problems we had with the gearbox I am going to persevere and try to make it work. If we can get it right it will certainly help but so far it's almost certainly slowed me down sadly. But with a year of testing I'd like to think I've got a handle on it so we shall see how next year develops. It's entirely possible that the project will take longer than I'd like but that will only be down to a lack of funds. I have a different set of requirements this year I am not going to compromise on the quality of the build just to get it on the road. Hopefully I can get some overtime in .............. My only target for the car is to try and get in the top ten overall at TOTB. And yes that may well be a pretty optimistic aim particularly when you consider some of the extraordinary cars (and budgets) of some of the top cars but I do like a challenge. Even if we don't do so well we will look good doing it! For now I am looking forward to seeing the shell finished with the spoilers and last pieces of the jigsaw fitted.

Japfest 2014 tickets / passes & track sessions
It's more likely I will be in the 2+2 I see the noise levels are only 100db and I struggle to get below 105db so unless we can get some plugs it'll be LWB :) Still don't be getting in my way though Pete lol

Japfest 2014 tickets / passes & track sessions
Put me down for entry and three track sessions please. Have already paid via paypal and if my race car isn't ready I'll use the 2+2 :) Don't be getting in my way Pete lol

Go racing?
I had a look at this years results and I see that Steve and Mark were actually in SGT. Timings wise the 300GT and SGT are pretty similar and best times are split 50/50. It isn't time attack and I would think the costs for both these classes are similar however they will still be pretty high. Running a 300ZX around the track without any mods at all? Well, you'll be slow due to the weight but that's just as well because if you go too fast you'll destroy the engine or at the very least get black flagged for burning oil/black smoke :) As a minimum remove/re-route PCV and try and drop a bit of weight. It'll be tough to compete in either class having looked at the times at Brands Indy (which we did in the final round) the best times were within half a second of mine and that's with 20 other cars on track head to head. If you really want to get on track and go fast why not just buy my ZX10R which is going on ebay soon. Carbon wheels weighs in at 160kg and with 175 rwhp it will be competitive at club events right now. What I used to do was I had a set of race fairings and plastic which I would put on for the track and put the nice stuff back on for the road. I've only used my bike twice this year and it will be sad to see it go but I need the funds for my slickie and I'm getting too old to run them both :(

It's looking great can't wait to see the arches :)

Go racing?
Yes these are minimum weights Pete's getting old :) You could be racing against GTO's etc Steve Lawtey and Mark Firth were racing in the 300GT class and I am confident you would also get in that class. Go on the forum and see what's what and I think you'll find it would be a perfect fit :) I can get you in touch with Steve if you wanna chat with him about it just let me know.

Help wiring front fogs
It may well be called a chav switch but in narrow country lanes at night they help to locate the edge of the road nicely particularly when a 4x4 has it's HID lights blinding you :)

Great work guys. I know I made a good choice and it's going to look fantastic!

Double garage sizes
A double front is more limiting as two singles are future proofed against a change of use later. For example you might want a garage and a gym or workshop. Two single doors even if you don't split the garages entirely will give you loads of options at a later stage. Costs more money though :( Yes you can buy insulated roller doors. Here's a link to a very good supplier and cheap too and always keen to do a deal in my experience http://www.1stsecurityuk.com/homesecurity.htm

Double garage sizes
Electric roller shutter doors are best, not particularly expensive and any size can be made or cut down. Go as big as your local council allows if you're not going for planning permission but there are rules which you'll find on your local website. If you are going for planning then it's a different story. The best advice I can give you is that if you're building a brick garage then fit the piers on the 'outside'. This gives you more room inside but also most councils measure the garage size based on the internal dimensions and that would be between the piers losing a fair bit of space. Look at the photo these pair of single garages I built last year as it was beneficial for me to have two single instead of one double. External piers and flat roof single ply membrane provides the biggest internal space. I can fit my trailer inside either of these and close the door :)

Bobgenie's Slicktop. 2014 Makeover.
With the standard tank on hard corners most of the fuel rushes to one side or another anyway. IMO this will actually make it more predictable as all the weight will be on the left side. This balanced out by the fact that on track there is usually only me. On the right side :)
