Ten Of The Best 300ZX V GTO Competition
OK. I suggest the following for fast driving will work for track and road plus a bit of drag. Front 2 degree negative camber. Rear 1.5 degree negative camber. Front toe out 5 minutes Rear toe neutral. Well i will let you know as those will be my setting this coming weekend and I will be hitting a large piece of concrete later to try it out for handling to :)

Ten Of The Best 300ZX V GTO Competition
But what are you changing your settings for? Handling or drag? Toe in the front wheels will help straight line stability (good for Drag) but will provoke more understeer. Toe out will reduce straight line but will reduce understeer. I go for toe out to reduce understeer and accept some loss of straightline stability. Then throw in a bit of negative camber it starts getting a bit complicated. Now where's that book about real world 300ZX racing????

Ten Of The Best 300ZX V GTO Competition
Great video Tom and it all looks good. You need to keep it on boost which will mean riding the clutch. Dumping the clutch is Ok with an NA but won't work with turbos. I thought the launches looked pretty good and practice makes perfect so they say :) There will 'probably' be more grip at the event so there is the risk of bogging down and losing boost but once again it's all about practice. And of course the handling looked pretty good too :) can't help you with the set up but for drag you need a softer rear which helps prevent spinning up too much

Quaife ATB and 4.10 Leader gear set
Yes there is a bit of a whine but nothing serious. At a guess I expect they may not have been shimmed properly

PS. And yes that is AEM and we will be installing one of their Infiniti ECUs shortly :-)

Bobgenie's Slicktop. 2014 Makeover.
With Dan Turner and his connections across the world I am pleased to tell you guys I now have sponsorship from AEM and if all goes well the car will be featured in the AEM catalogue going forward. I always resisted any sponsorship but with the recent issues and resulting expense I decided it was time to get some help. Due in no small part to the work put into this car from Slickpete and Paul, and Bodymech the car has had a lot of interest in the wider community. So now all I have to do is keep it reliable and start winning things :-) stickers soon to be appearing on this page!

Facebook and Instagram is where AME put their progress :) not sure what boost we have removed the actuators already so hopefully we can fix that and then move on.

Bobgenie's Slicktop. 2014 Makeover.
Testing today there was some pretty exotic cars. A fair few must have been priceless as Dan was busy taking photos. Once I got up to speed I started to hold my own despite being down on power https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=692638107517326&id=100003134288593 I will be going to the Lotus test track at Hethel for another sprint in a couple of weeks but hoping for another couple of hundred horses :-)

Bobgenie's Slicktop. 2014 Makeover.
Well still a lot of work to do but Dans engine is working well. Need to change the actuators that Ashspecz fitted as it's preventing full boost but testing at around 550 bhp and we are getting somewhere https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10152516442213899&id=561413898

New rear wheel trouble
an offset of 30 is tight. An offset of +35 puts the tyre right on the limit so that extra 5mm will probably mean a bit of arch rolling

JAPSHOW @ SANTAPOD 6th july
OK I haven't done a quarter for nearly a year now so will need to get a practice in before TOTB so put me down please.

Ten Of The Best 300ZX V GTO Competition
There is no real deadline as far as I know but really I guess at least a couple of weeks before the event would be latest. Let me know if you're struggling and I will check with Dave.

Ten Of The Best 300ZX V GTO Competition
That's a good idea I also used my forum name. I will give him the forum names for now and if everyone can use this forum name as the straightliners one too it will keep it nice and simple :)
-
Ten Of The Best 300ZX V GTO Competition
That's the way to do it :) I spoke with Dave earlier who asked if I can give him a list of names so he can ensure we are entered correctly in the team. So I'm guessing forum names might not be enough ...... lol - - - Updated - - - Bobgenie - registered Paulzx Slickpete Iangreenfield Tomfromthenorth - registered Dicky96 Keano

Ten Of The Best 300ZX V GTO Competition
So it's now only 52 days till ten of the best and it's time to put our entry in certainly within the next two weeks. I have already told the organisers we have a team and they're happy. I spoke to Dave and the best way to join is on the following link http://straightliners-events.co.uk/event/events/ten-of-the-best/ten-of-the-best/ten-of-the-best-26th-27th-july-2014/ten-of-the-best-main-event-entry.html Once there click book and the rest is fairly straighforward. I have already joined and the team name is 300ZX Club and we are running in class B. If anyone needs any help just give me a PM and I will sort it out but please get the entries in ASAP. Not 100% sure but I might go to Japshow and do a couple of runs up the quarter as I haven't done any yet this year however of course a lot depends on how the car shapes up over the next few weeks. Bobgenie - registered Paulzx Slickpete Iangreenfield Tomfromthenorth Dicky96 Keano Anyone else want to join? And are all you guys still up for it?

Bobgenie's Slicktop. 2014 Makeover.
Thanks for the kind words guys. It is upsetting but with racing you have to have the mindset that damage will occur and you must grit the teeth and carry on. Of course this is a bigger disappointment in many ways because it 'appears' to be a build issue. However we don't truly know as yet and will have to scrutinise the data over the next few days to fully understand and deal with it. Onwards and upwards.

Bobgenie's Slicktop. 2014 Makeover.
It is extremely hard and for a moment I wonder whether it's all worth it but just gotta get your head down, get even more overtime in and get on with it. I'm disappointed to say the least! We do have lots of data both ECU and Racepak but there are no issues. The overheating never got out of control it was simply a factor to manage during the weekend and is probably the fan. Noise wise there was little to hear but it is a noisy car though Dan and Josh knew there was a difference when he started it. I doubt we've destroyed the engine as we had such low boost and didn't push it too hard. I'm taking the engine out of 2+2 which was built by Dan and we're going to use that going forward. I have asked Dan to focus on getting the car back on track and we will investigate the issues with this one later. Fingers crossed I'll still be at Mallory next Wednesday.

Bobgenie's Slicktop. 2014 Makeover.
Bad news. Despite using low boost and being relatively gentle with the car the engine bottom end appears to let go. All I know right now is lots of metal in the oil but the prognosis is pretty poor. Probably done about 10 miles on that £2K rebuild. Looks like I will be breaking the 2+2 after all.

Bobgenie's Slicktop. 2014 Makeover.
Was an M3 driven by BradGT but i was a good 3 seconds off the pace. Having said that I started to get some heat in the tyres on Sunday and gained one and half seconds so not bad considering very low boost. I also managed to beat a couple of GTRs too :) So the rebuild continues and having learned a lot we have plenty of data to work with. Next session at Mallory hopefully in 10 days and all being well am going to try at least one drag session but will update as I understand more. Some pix from Sunday :) quite a lot of positive comments about how the car looks. Hopefully it won't be long before we get some comments about the performance too. The extra width seemed to work well but that's not confirmed yet as more testing is needed.
