1. You may well destroy a decent set of road tyres if they have a lot of tread. So simply buy a nice set of secondhand tyres and I would recommend pilot sport PS3 with 'around' 5mm of tread and hey presto you have a blindingly good tyre that will compete with the best on track. I put in some really good times at cadwell on PS3's and in reality a good set of 'shaved' tyres will not be so far off an R888.
2. If you have facebook there are a few photos taken over the weekend and a brilliant video of Slick Pete against a Scoobie quickly followed by me against another one :) https://www.facebook.com/bob.dixon.737
3. And here is where we started that bit of the story. Cadwell Park 2012. Bob and James both entered. The only pit crew was one old bloke helping both drivers  Yes seems a long time ago now and we were pretty laid back about the whole thing weren't we. I even remember having a kip in the truck while you worked on James car lol Thanks Gaz :)
4. No luckily I was just driving down the pit lane. New one going in tomorrow hopefully :)
5. Having had time to study the data I am really pleased to say the least. I have been told many times over the past four years that a 300ZX couldn’t compete against the 4x4s on handling at TOTB. I suspect quite a few of the drivers might beg to differ with the vast majority failing to better my time and that includes a few full on track cars. It’s a shame that the rain came as the one thing I still haven’t managed to get right is the wet set-up but that may come in time. As a driver I do struggle a little because I hadn’t driven the car for 6 months and since the beginning of the season I have had under 3 hours seat time. It is not any easy car to drive but it truly is a lot of fun! On the drag strip my times were not the quickest but in hindsight an 11.39 is only half a second behind my best and with around 60% power I can’t complain. I knew on the day that I had driven well and again the data backs this up. I had the best RWD 60 foot time by some margin of 1.700 and with only 15 cars overall quicker to 60 foot I have to be happy. My terminal speed of 140 mph also stacks up and shows the car / driver potential. The limiting factor is the loss of boost during gear changes. With these big turbos we suffer a lot lag and I can’t use flat shifting and NOS at the same time currently with no time to work that particular solution but we have some ideas to improve there. I like to think that the car is a great all-rounder. While the old engine keeps going I will do a few more events to fine tune the set-up but over the winter we will be getting the new engine in and fine tuning here and there as necessary. This has been the best learning year by far and I am hopeful that we will move up the leaderboard in all three disciplines. Who knows I might even do a full season in Time Attack Club Pro :)
6. P.S. One negative was that I forgot to do up the bonnet pins and when it came up broke my brand new windscreen :(
7. Thanks James actually the terminals shouldn't be anywhere near that. We put the car on the dyno last week and re-mapped to reduce risk of it blowing at TOTB and I am currently running 370rwhp. Add approx. 60rwhp with the NOS and I suspect I wasn't even the most powerful zed at the event :) I didn't expect to break 12 seconds so am really pleased with the results as it proves we are getting somewhere with set-up. I will be doing an MLR sprint at Hethel 12th Sept and then one at Rockingham 10th Oct if anyone fancies it :)
8. I didn't see you all day Ian apart from a hello when you arrived :) Car looked good!
9. You can't complain with a PB Pete. I only did four runs on the handling too :)
10. Hi guys just got home it was a long weekend. Sorry I didn't get the chance to speak much but was busy trying to nurse the car around. Yes we got some good times but it took a lot of work by me and Jordan (Eurospec pit crew). But the engine lasted the weekend which is amazing as I was losing around half a litre of oil into the catch tank for every quarter mile  Didn't do much on the Saturday as just needed to make sure all the settings were right and didn't want to push too hard however RWD was very strong on Saturday and while I was 4th in RWD with three Dax Rush / Caterham types ahead I was still top ten on the handling overall. Today we managed some crazy numbers on the strip with a couple of terminal speeds of 138 mph and one of 140 mph which bodes well for next year. I held off doing a top speed run as didn't want to kill the engine and sadly when I did have a go it was already wet so only managed a very slippery 157 mph but it was FUN. In the handling I was pleased with the 2nd place behind the Dax Rush and in front of the GT3 but it was pouring with rain in the shootout and while I managed a very sideways 44 second run it wasn't enough to get a podium. I was 18th overall in the handling which isn't the top ten I was looking for but we are getting closer so maybe next year :) Well done all the fellow zeds there was a decent turnout in the end and some decent times being done particularly Neil Weyman who once again showed what can be done with a LWB full weight car. Not slow at all despite what some may say :) There is a fair bit of interest in the zed with a lot of people giving us proper respect. And that respect is not just because we have proved the car can be competitive but from n/a to standard full weight or show car we have shown we are not afraid to give it a shot on the track so well done boys. I didn't take a single photo as usual so thanks for those that did. See you next year :)
11. that's a lot work done James well done mate be great to see it on the track again
12. You need five for a team guys so if you can't get another 300zx you will need a different make car. Maybe Noz can bring his Pulsar? I will be there but not expecting great things as the right bank is shot (with the left not far behind) and I am down to 370 rwhp :( maybe I should be worried about Pete :) But I have got a 200 shot of NOS in the bottle so if I do manage to get through the day and make any finals I shall turn that on and think of England! Looking forward to seeing you guys there
13. That would be a shame after such a good turn out last year. I'm still with my old engine as won't have the time to get the new one in and tested in time so that will be in over the winter ready for next year. The old engine has done fantastic though as it was smoking badly last year and at both Castle Coombe and Brands the other week I was lucky to be let out on track :) Obviously lost a bit of compression down the right bank and it won't last much longer but hopefully will get me through TOTB. Down on power quite a bit too but we have got a pretty decent set up now so I am going to focus on the handling circuit and go steady on the 1/4 and top speed run. I won't be using it generally but am increasing the NOS to a 200 shot so if we are very lucky and get to a drag final I'll be able to use that for one final swan song lol. Looking forward to seeing you all there!
14. Well I will still be going to ten of the best but Eurospec are fielding a team so I have to join them this year. I am still using my old engine so am not expecting anything special but the car was virtually undriveable for most of last year so I am focussing on making it work better. My new engine will be ready end July and I'm hoping by then I will have got the rest of the car working and can start to go fast. All the work we did last year was well worth it but the car was like a bucking bronco and it was impossible to drive. It was a lot of fun of course but I want to start getting quicker and making all the hard work worthwhile. I will do all three events engine permitting but I am going to concentrate on the handling this year. Hope 300ZX still have a good team. What with all the high power numbers I hear being bandied about I suspect I would be one of the slower ones :)
15. What bike are you taking?
16. I should be going and I will be doing my own thing as usual but am more than happy to be part of the 300ZX team. Regarding regs the car should be 'road legal' but take this with a pinch of salt. Last year I spent a fortune keeping it road legal and when signing on with all my paperwork, tax, insurance, MOT two guys in front had NOTHING but showed a photo of their car on the road which seemed to be 'fine'. You won't be turned away unless your car is particularly loud. You will need a helmet which 'should' be a car type not motorcycle however again they are unlikely to check this. If you're in a true road car a motorcycle helmet is good enough anyway as you're highly unlikely to burst into flame :) TOTB is a pretty laid back affair in respect of 'rulebooks' and one of the reasons that it's so popular. And probably the best value in motorsport anywhere.
17. Here is the promo from Japshow Finale and there is a short video of my zed going over the line with my 10.92 so well pleased with that :)
18. And to top off a great weekend I have made it into the quickshift challenge final and will be appearing at Flame and Thunder at Santa Pod on the 25th October :)
19. Good chatting to you too and thanks for the support :) Don't come on here much due to work commitments but I will post a couple of links might make you laugh. Not got anything for the 10 second pass but I have a few leading up to it which might help to show how hard it is (for me anyway).
20. This is what Dan my tuner is working on today. He looks after a couple of these and both with VG30 engine this has same turbo set up as Jaffa. Someone recently suggested that since Dan wasn't a zed specialist he might not be up to scratch lol PS. Very slight chance I'm going to Cadwell T/A next weekend for some more testing. Fingers crossed :-)
21. I love Skylines and GTRs. What's not to like FFS?
22. I just realised he's probably talking about Andre. Yes he has done loads of work but wasn't at TOTB.
23. I must also give a big up to the GTO boys and Eurospec who took their beating in good heart. And this what a 300ZX looks like with a few trophies sat on it :)
24. No he lives near Guildford. The guy he sold his Porche too also turned up and managed a better quarter so that was quite funny :)
