  1. Well the old Hilux has gone to a new home and we have a new family member a tidy black 1995 300zx SWB TT manual This shortie' is absolutely mint underneath and is a credit to its former keepers. Quite a contrast to her big brother sat on axle stands in the background feeling sorry for himself. First job on the 'to do' list was to swap over the Nismo steering wheel for the uber' rare, limited edition 'OZ Racing' Personal steering wheel out of the track zed. The feel on this is much better for me, than with its leather predesessor. I was going to change the Momo gear knob over but half way through I figured that I actually quite liked it and the way that it felt during gear changes was pretty good, so it stayed put. Next little job was to mag to grid the orange indicator lenses and swap them for a set of Nismo clear lenses that I had lying around. Now it was always my intention to switch the 17" Speedline rims currently fitted to the zed for a set of 18" RAYS (including a set of nearly new 235 and 275 wide Pirelli P-Zero tyres) that I picked up from Zedworld last year for a bargain price, I dropped them off on Wednesday at a local tyre specialist to make good a nail that was embedded in one of the rear tyres. Unfortunately when I went to pick them up they informed me that one of the front rims had a small crack just on the lip and would need to be repaired. the rim was still holding air and wasn't leaking at all, so it was just by chance that when the tyre was removed the guys spotted the crack. anyway, that left me with a bit of a dilemma. I sized up the set of 18" Enkei's that I've got for the track zed but I think that without rolling the arch, they would rub, so the Enkei's were out. Next I suggested to my wife that we refurb the set of 18" white 1 piece Volk Racing/Rays that we have in the attic that were used for drifting and track days they only require a small amount of work to be mint, however the thought of white rims on a black roadgoing SWB zed didn't appeal to my wife so they were also out! That got me thinking. I've had a set of 18" black and chrome Volk Racing/RAYS CV-Pro's for a few years now. I refurbed them about 2 years ago but never fitted them. I tried selling them a few times but nobody was willing to pay the money and they aren't to everyones taste. anyway I dug them out of the attic and quickly dusted them off. In my opinion there's something very retro JDM about them and I think that they will go nicely on the shortie' (especially as they are pretty much the same year of manufacture) The pics aren't great because obviously I've just laid them alongside (so no they aren't super negative offset 13.3" wide rims before you ask!) but I think they will go. They were originally on the track zed back in '08 before I removed them and refurbed them and now they are absolutely mint, without even the slightest curbing etc. What do you think?
  2. Awesome truck that bud, as I said earlier "Proper Colt Seevers!" :punk: As above^^^^^get some mahoosive' monster truck wheels on it. She'll serve you well bud  *Now who left that shortie' on my drive!!!
  3. I quite like that, but I'd rather it extended a tad more like the Wangan spoilers fitted to a lot of 'S' bodies in Japan Group buy anybody?
  4. If I have inadvertantly offended any members on the Nissan 300zx forum who may be considering buying a Mitsubishi FTO then I appologise unreservedly. My intention was simply to express my opinion that I personally do not like FTO's and would never consider buying one. My use of the term 'gash' may have been misconstruded, as I intended to use it as an alternate description for 'rubbish'. Having witnessed and lived with the constant moans of dismay of a colleague who spent a lot of time and money on a 1996 FTO only to openly admit after 2 years of ownership, that he had made a costly mistake in trying to improve what is effectively a 2lt FWD car with limted performance gains pound for pound. Torque steer was the cars undoing and the FTO in question was sold as a breaker. My colleague subsequently replaced the FTO with an imported LHD Mitsubishi Eclipse which 2 years on (Please skip the next statement if you are looking to purchase a Mitsubishi Eclipse in the not too distant future) is again proving itself to be another 'rubbish' car, as the moans are still a daily occurance (although I have recently left the post, it is still a running joke....my colleague that is, not the Eclipse) My reference to FTO owners and their relationship with insurance companies was based on my personal knowledge of my colleagues character, which could only be described as 'muppetry personified'. A Mitsubishi Grandis is a surprisingly good car for a family, and I would argue that it should not sit within the 'gash car' category (it's got a DVD and everything!), however I fully respect your opinion based on your personal experience of the car in question. The Nissan Wingroad, which incidently is not the car pictured, is a cheap and cheerful runabout that would be ideal for a young family who require an economical tribe transporter, granted it's not the prettiest car in the world and neither would it make headlines through its exploits at Santa Pod, but it is what it is, an economical 5 seater estate car. 'End of chat' was not intended as an unstruction from me to you (I wouldn't be so rude), it was merely an expression of how I believed that I had explained my position clearly on this matter and therefore would no longer be required to continue this conversation. Quite clearly I failed in expressing this intention and have subsequently 'continued chat' in order to make my point much clearer. again I appologise if my opinion has caused offence and I wish all potential FTO'ers many happy years of FTO'ing Peace :thumbup1:
  5. This is our second Grandis as a family car, it's ideal as it offers good fuel economy, 7 seats and enough room for myself, my wife, our 3 children and our dog. I don't like the FTO so get over it fella, if you do then buy one. I'm not entirely sure what your problem is chief but maybe take yourself for a walk to burn it off End of chat
  6. There was a programme on last night, not sure if any of you watched it, where a young woman was pulled over at a petrol station by the Police because the car she was driving showed up on the system as having no insurance. As it turned out the car was registered in her husbands name and she claimed that it was insured, in his name. She couldn't get her head around the fact that even if it was insured in her husbands name then that didn't mean that she could drive it. Eventually her husband appeared on the scene. - The car wasn't insured full stop - The woman had 14 points on her provisional licence - The woman had applied for 3 licences using different details and was eventually caught out by the DVLA The car was impounded and joined the other 500 cars that are impounded by the Police every day due to no tax, no insurance etc When you consider that the most that she will get is a slap on the wrist and potentially would lose the car if they don't pay the measley sum of £120 for its release, where's the deterent? Now this car was actually a pretty tidy looking Ford Focus but you can imagine that if it was a complete shite box worth next to nothing, then you can see why a lot of people, especially with 14 points on a provisional licence!!! would not bother with tax, insurance and MOT etc as its cheaper just to take the risk I think that penalties should be much harsher for offenders, especially persistant offenders just my 2p worth
  7. Go for an LS V8, a mate of mine recently bought a VXR8 with the 6.2 LS3, and though it's not my cup of tea there's no denying that the sound is pretty special
  8. The FTO quote is the one that surprised me.....maybe the insurance companies figure that if you're the kind of person who wastes their money on a gash car like that, then you obviously don't mind getting ripped off.....so bumped the quote up as a result!
  9. I've done a bit of searching on here and have found some info but not a lot I've got a pair of relatively unused GT 675RS tubs on the forged VG that I'm currently stripping in prep for a rebuild, but was wondering if it's worth replacing them with a pair of HKS 2530's I understand that the GT 675RS is Z1's own variation of the HKS 2530 but are there any major differences (apart from the price) lag etc? cheers
  10. For me Anthony Hopkins (my inlaws live just around the corner from his mother) Jesus (my inlaws don't live just around the corner from his mother) Bruce Lee (so I could give him a few pointers....)
  11. Yep, 2+2 is exactly that (2 seats in the front and 2 seats in the back). SWB only has front seats. I used to struggle getting the kids car seats in the back of the zed (usually had to push the front seats forward quite a way) but others on here have found it ok. ref the marriage situation, at least this way the zed (or any other car for that matter) can't be blamed for the breakdown, which can quite often be a big contributing factor hope you enjoy the zed mate go for lowest mileage/latest year twin turbo manual, but that's just my opinion of course
  12. Does anybody know if the '99 spec spoiler offers any benefits aerodynamically or is it more for show?
  13. I can't see that the item would have been worth much more (or much less) than Jeff's final bid anyway If it was was for the sale of a 'Z-32' private DVLA registerred plate then ok, fair enough as that would no doubt have been worth a couple of grand, but for a show plate? Even if it was a genuine mistake on the sellers part and he had intended to place a reserve then he should still honour the sale and learn from his mistake
  14. I reckon my Hilux would give them a run for their money!
  15. I was just wonderingas, its just I've never heard of a Z32 competing at any of the TOTB events I'm sure there's some qualifying criteria, or someone mentioned previosuly in a magazine article that entrants have to be nominated by their respective clubs or go through pre-elimination etc Though I may have just misunderstood I'm not sure about how the zed would hold up on the handling circuit but I think that after about a million quid had been pumped into the engine (well a £25k JUN block at least and every part from the Z1 and CZP catalogue) then maybe the old girl would be able to give some big players a run for their money
  16. As stated, the GTR's handling is in a completely different league to that of the zed. There are members who've traded up their track prepped zeds for track prepped GTR's and the differences in both platforms is huge. Again effective cooling being a big issue with the zed. Correct me if I'm wrong please but isn't the GTS-t suspension setup pretty much the same as the Z32, with a lot of components being directly compatible
  17. As above, just wondered if a Z32 had ever competed in TOTB. I know that a couple of 350z's have had a crack over the years but what about the 300zx's
  18. I'm sure most are aware of that bud, it's the handling characteristics (amongst several others: cooling etc) that are the GTR's biggest asset over the zed just my opinion though
  19. I was thinking more 2JZ to be honest...
  20. I used to get the odd 'Is it a Skyline?' comment 'No its the Skyline's big brother' usually put them straight (shame it doesn't quite have the performance potential of its lesser sibling though...)
  21. 6 days and counting......
  22. only joking mate, it must have left you with a big smile on your face...... now imagine if you'd stalled it in front of everyone, I saw that happen to a guy on an R1 in San Diego, hilarious
