Headlights issue...
Yeah I've heard rumours about the rules change with regards to HID's my local MOT tester is a fair guy and he does a lot of the work on my other motors so I will speak to him about it before I fit and thanks for the welcome to the club mate

why so cheap
On the other hand, if you have no intention of selling your zed, then current zed prices are by and large irrelevent, though to be fair I think prices have been creeping back up very slowly over the past few months. When Marty (Gonzo12c) was looking on behalf of his mate the other week, there were only one or two TT manual LWB that could be had for his £2,500 budget. Not sure what the average sale price of a zed is these days but I'd guess around the £3500 mark for a tidy example.

Headlights issue...
Cheers matey  that's one blown bulb and a pretty crappy bulb now changed bit of solder and a spade connector sorted it, all lights working properly now, but I think your right, HID kit going on shortly I reckon thanks fellas

Headlights issue...
Gotcha' so in that case my Shortie's sidelights are working fine, as do the fog lights So I need to replace the H3c bulbs of my dipped beams as they are obviously pretty crap then so is the larger bulb (right with 3 pins) just for full beam?

Headlights issue...
Yeah these ^^^^ (# 501's) are what I tried to fit from Halfrauds' and they didn't fit These are the bulbs fitted to the Shortie' (it's not a HID bulb by chance is it?) They blue bulb doesn't slide out either as it's wired in place (I broke one trying to do a one for one swap with a 501 bulb) and these are the bulbs fitted to the UK spec LWB (# 501 on the left)

That's an interesting bit of zed history right there, cheers bud :thumbup1:

why so cheap
Absolutely and it's all good and obviously did wonders for the zeds popularity in the US market, the trouble that I can see is this, despite all of its achievements (shown above) it was effectively eclipsed at the time by the Skyline GTR (29 wins from 29 starts in Japan or something like that), so I've always assumed that the Bonneville record is really the big one for us; though a Supra came very, very close not too long back if I recall Not sure how much of the Z32 as we know it can be related to the machines that achieved all of the above either and again, I don't know so just playing devils advocate before I get shot down in flames, but did it actually run a VG30DETT at Le Mans and IMSA or was it a similar sketch to the R35's in GT1 today where they run a larger NA lump from a different vehicle? We'll get there I'm sure, maybe a multi millionaire zed lover will push for Bonneville part 2!!

why so cheap
That's true, the exposure from F&F did a lot for the popularity of several motors, maybe the zed is just destined to be 'one of the other options' unless........ high profile bank job (Italian job stylee) :2guns:, a silver zed TT as a gettaway car, get all the silver zeds in the UK together to act as decoys....we'd make a fortune (well enough to maintain a zed for 6 months or so) and raise the profile of the zed

Headlights issue...
Yeah I've just swapped the relays over and no change? This headlight issue is on the '95 import (SWB), the lights are completely different to those on the '91 UK (LWB) which surprised me. I think a trawl through ebay might be an idea cheers fellas

why so cheap
Does anybody have a rough idea what the top $ paid in the UK over the last few years for a top drawer modified Z32 was? I'm sure I saw one a few years back (around 2007 I think) claiming 900 brake and was up for £10k-£15k (though I'm not 100% on that). I think it was somewhere around the £15k figure anyway now compare that to the fairly common cost of a similar aged top drawer GTR which can easily demand a £18k-£25k+ price tag as the norm' maybe it's partly due to less big named builders in Japan, Top Secret, Garage Saurus etc building comparable profile zed cars.....and to be fair if the demand isn't there then they aren't likely to I suppose. What have we had so far? the JUN/Blitz zed of Bonneville fame and the Pentroof zed, maybe a few more but nowhere near as many legendary cars as the Top Secret Supra, Rocket Ronnies R33, all of Tweenie Rob's creations, JUN super lemon R33 GTR etc, etc I think that if a company like Rocky Auto of Japan started building monster spec Z32's as well as the usual 240z's then the value of the average Z32 may increase over time, but as it stands I suppose the general oppinion of Joe public who's in the market for a car is something along the lines of "why spend 'X' amount of money on a zed and modify it to the spec of an average GTR when you could just buy a GTR in the first place already built to spec" A couple of TOTB showdowns as the underdog, a 7 second Z32 on the drag strip and a few top spec zed drifters and I reckon we might stand a chance on clawing back a small amount of our zed investments just my 2p worth

Headlights issue...
Typical that late yesterday afternoon when I was 200 miles from home and with darkness looming, one of the headlights decided to give up the ghost. Not a problem as Mr Halfords wasn't that far away so off I pop to grab a replacement bulb then I realised that one of the sidelight bulbs had given up the ghost also as a precaution I checked all the fuses and replaced them with new The 'bulb guide book' in the store stated that I needed a Bosch # 448 (single pin) and a Bosch # 501 (bulb tip) apparently. anyway, I replaced the main headlight bulb (448) and full beam worked just fine but no headlights on both sides? so I went to fit the sidelight (501) and low and behold it's a completely different bulb? The bulb that I removed from the car had two pins whereas (501) is just a small bulb piece that doesn't fit The Halfords staff helped as much as they could but then concluded that they don't stock the particular bulb that I needed. I ended up *******ising' another twin pin bulb just to make sure that I at least had both sidelights working for the drive home, but then it was a mad dash to get home before it got completely dark I've had a nose around this morning and it would appear that both side lights work (albeit with one *******ised bulb that will be changed today) both full beams work, so the bulbs are fine but when headlights are selected on the dial, the headlights don't come on, but the bulbs in the fog lights do come on but at a normal (non foglight brightness)? then when the fog light switch is pressed the foglight bulbs increase in brightness (as per normal foglights) very confused and still no headlights ??????????

Camber ?
Is that the same ^^^^^ for both LWB and SWB mate?

hero or zero
Yeah sorry, you've missed what I was trying to get across mate, I wasn't suggesting that you got all your info from CSI I was just using that as an example of how fictional TV will have you believe in many cases that ballistics is black and white when it clearly isn't. I highlighted your quote so that I had something to make reference to when I was replying so that I wouldn't head off on a tangent (probably failed miserably there then eh) I was trying to put across the different characteristics of both high velocity and low velocity ammunition, I know the guy wasn't suggesting that he was shot with a NATO round (in actual fact we now know that he wasn't shot at all....the strange fish that he clearly is!!!) but again, it was more to emphasise the point of how unpredictable a projectile can be once it's penetrated the body. Exactly the same principle with 'stickets' when sniping (ie. a small amount of folliage, even light grasses, if encountered by the round just after it's left the barrel can have a dramatic effect on the point of impact at longer ranges. Same principle with a subsonic round penetrating the body, after penetration and before its dumped its energy it may take a deflection, off a rib for example, changing its path slightly, which ultimately may result in it missing all vital organs. There have been incidents where a low velocity round (9 mil in this instance)where it penetrated the individuals lower right abdomen, bypassed all vital organs and continued on to exit through the lower lumber regions without causing any significant damage, though shock and blood loss are still obviously serious enough in their own right to cause fatality even if vital organs haven't been damaged. and that's where this idiots tall story really fell on its arse in my oppinion. Unless the victim was off his face on crack I very much doubt that they would be inclined to just shrug it off......possibly watched too much Rambo part 3 me thinks!

We just phoned them direct, I don't think you can do it online. Very nice and friendly to deal with- change of heart
Highly recommend Lynbrook bud £194 fully comp for my 1995 SWB import TT manual on a classic policy http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&sqi=2&ved=0CEMQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lynbrookins.co.uk%2F80507%2Finfo.php%3Fp%3D6&ei=WRomTo7IA4iGhQfx7aHrCQ&usg=AFQjCNE3ojSClMDSdqknxmTmLv8l65LatQ- Royal International Air Tattoo
Saw it advertised and drove passed several times over the last week or so but didn't go to it. I used to go with my grandparents years ago (25-30 odd years back come to think of it), not sure if it was Fairford but loved it as a kid- My new shortie' TT
Well what can I say, my little darlings really do enjoy helping their old dad 3 days of wet and dry, enamel (wait 24 hrs), then enamel (wait 24 hrs), then laquer (wait....well you get the point) I had planned to re-assemble the split rims this evening ready to have the tyres fitted tomorrow. I am so impressed with the finish on the newly painted parts..... then I discovered that one of my little angels (I'd hazard a guess and say the youngest who's 2 years old) had decided to help by checking that the laquer was dry....... it wasn't! so maybe a quick wipe with a rag would help and dad would never know..... maybe not! Oh well, another 3 days of the same old routine I suppose. So in the meantime as the RAYS aren't ready and won't be for a few days now, I've put the Enkei's on the shortie' just so I can it rolling on 18's I think the phrase millimetre perfect is about right, the rims clear the 8 pots by about 1mm- My new shortie' TT
Go-karty is a very good description actually of how a SWB drives, and the LWB pendulum effect is pretty apt as well I think, though if a LWB is driven sensibly and with respect its still (in my opinion at least) a really nice GT/cruiser. As for the lack of rear seats, it has been an issue but only the once. The shortie' is now classed by me as the company car, and as I generally won't be taking the kids to meetings its not really an issue, and to be fair a 2 + 2 wouldn't be enough these days anyway I think that a zed can be many things to many people, but an ideal family car is maybe stretching it a little, though it all depends on the individual's circumstances I suppose- My new shortie' TT
Having now driven and owned both a LWB TT and SWB TT I would agree that the SWB feels a lot more planted than the LWB, which I found to be overly twitchy in the wet. I've clocked up over 500 miles in the shortie' in the last week and felt confident in its handling 100%, though obviously respect is still due when the roads are 'mildly moist' as it can still get a bit lively if you want it to be. Ok, so I finally got around to test fitting the RAYS split rims and I reckon they'll do nicely. TEIN coilovers should lower the zed a few mm's to complete the setup. The tyres sit nice and flush with the arches. I've since stripped them all down again and have given them two extra coats of black enamel and clear laquer. They've been left for 24 hours between each coat to harden and hopefully they'll be ready to have the new Pirelli's fitted in the next day or so. I also got around to fitting the '99 spec rear lights, which thankfully was a very straight forward task. From start to finish only took 42 minutes so I was well happy. Whilst I had the wheels off the shortie' I figured I'd take the oportunity to test fit the Enkei split rims that will be going onto the track zed. These will also be stripped down and the centres are going to be painted in white enamel. They are 10" rear with ET +23 offset but with the 255's fitted the tyres sit flush with the arches, with no requirement for rolling. tyres are a tad stretched on the rears- got done over with engine build
Address for Mr Scaife please mate- SWB TT insurance, fully comp just £194
Spot on recommendation by Marty (Gonzo12c) to go with Lynbrook on a classic car policy for the SWB TT. I was expecting a quote of about £300 but they came back and offered me £194 fully comprehensive, needless to say we took it which is a bargain if you ask me- My new shortie' TT
:tank: It's a lovely zed and I've found that I'm just looking for excuses to take it for a spin You know you can't kill a Hilux don't you, especially a well maintained 3ltr diesel with only 70 odd thousand miles on the clock......it's like the Hob Nob biscuit of the 4x4 world Who's Gary Wilson?- My new shortie' TT
Everything is just so straight mate it's unreal. I had a nose around underneath today and it quite honestly looks like a car 10 years younger, there's just no comparisson with my LWB (UK spec, which might go some way to explain the copious amounts of surface rust on the arms etc) I know what you mean about my attic though, it's bloody rediculous, though 99% of those parts are destined for the track zed. The decision has been made anyway Marty, following our conversation yesterday, The track zed once blasted and resprayed will be gaining a new heart in the form of a 2JZ GTE (I know, travesty and all that but really it does make sense in the long run!) The forged VG will then eventually find its way into the shortie', though I'm in no hurry at all and am quite happy to keep the current engine as it is. Well I've made a token effort here, but that's it  You weren't lying either mate, with nothing more than aftermarket induction and a straight through exhaust, surprisingly it really does have some decent power there, like no other stock TT zed that I've ever been in before, so I'm well pleased mate. I plan for the shortie' to become a bit of a sleeper eventually, so no epic wide arch kits or big mouthed front bumpers just a whole load of JDM goodness I'll see you guys at the Pod sometime soon I'm sure (at last....it's only taken me 4 years!) and black CV-Pro's it is then cheers fellas :thumbup1: - change of heart
