  1. I figure I've got a couple of weeks tops to get the zed setup, and plan on dropping it up to Greg at Protuner to get it on the dyno You're right though, I can't lose this one, but have to win fairly or at least appear to win fairly there are a load of plug and play goodies in my attic (Greddy boost controller/Greddy fmic/AEM EMS/740 injectors etc) but obviously need to keep it realistic (unless anyone knows a way of fitting bigger Garret turbos without having to remove the engine from the car?) I might even invest in a set of slicks I'm gonna' rig up several on board cameras and will get some good footage of the event any advice would be much appreciated fellas
  2. You know how it is when a mate has his nose put out of joint and you really struggle to stop yourself from laughing your arse off, well I had one of those moments today A month or so back a mate of mine jumped in the shortie' for a lift, so naturally I let him witness a bit off SWB twin turbo VG power....considering the shortie' is fairly stock, by his own admission, he was impressed! anyway, a mutual Kiwi friend last December fulfilled his mid life crisis dream of owning a big Aussie V8 by shelling out a fortune on a tidy example of its European cousin, the LS3 powered 6.2ltr VXR8. Ever since he parted with his hard earned we've all been ripping him about his 'big lardy arsed Vauxhall'. To be honest it's not my cup of tea but you've got to love the sound of that big old V8, but I'd never let him know that. well yesterday he offered the same friend a lift in his VXR8 and gave him a demonstration of 6.2 ltr NA V8 power. He didn't take kindly to being told "Pez's little black car is faster than that" talk about red rag to a bull!!! He came to my house for a brew this morning and before the kettle had even boiled, the challenge was set, his VXR8, my shortie, Santa Pod 1/4 mile as soon as possible to settle this once and for all........ well I really struggled not to laugh, nothing to do with the challenge but because he is so serious about it and is genuinely hurt by our friends comment. I fully respect the power and torque figures of his motor and wouldn't know how the zed would fair but I had to accept just to calm him down So here we have it, a genuine challenge......VG30DETT vs LS3 I feel that maybe a few tweeks (and some discreet choice goodies') are in order just to give me a fighting chance this could be interesting!!!!
  3. I've got Ksport 8 pots (on pretty small 330mm'ish discs) up front on the shortie' at the moment with an unknown disc type with Nissan calipers on the rear and they seem decent enough for spirited 'B' road use. I'm gonna' give them a run out on track in the next few weeks to see how they fair. In the attic I've got a set of Ksport 6 pots (356mm discs) and a set of Ksport 12 pots (380mm discs) both with Ferrodo pads, that I'm planning on switching to afterwards for a direct comparrison to see which feels best and will post what I find. Contrary to popular belief I think the Ksports will be way up there with Stoptech etc, when you consider the number of succesful Time Attack cars currently running a Ksport brake system. We'll see how it go's
  4. Good luck for Monday Andy. Maybe worth considering that taking the job with the software company in the meantime, give's you the time to put a cast iron business plan together, whilst also providing you with the financial security that you need for day to day living = minimal stress in the coming months (which has to be good) I found myself in a very similar situation recently, luckily for me I've had a lot of support and managed to do my networking beforehand and it's all worked out well. ********************************************************** On a seperate note (and not wanting to get drawn into any personal arguments here as I don't know the full 'what's been said by who' and don't really care if I'm honest) but I feel that it's my afforded right as a subscribed member of this forum to say that I found some of the comments and individuals reactions throughout this thread (un-moderated and moderated) quite sad to witness and if I'm completely honest certain aspects were quite ugly in fact. Rules are rules and quite rightly they should be enforced, there will always be a grey area and opinions will inevitably vary as to what extent the letter of the law should be enforced. If a contravention of the rules has occured then quite rightly it's the moderators 'job' for want of a better word, to react accordingly. However an individuals intention and their perceived intention can be difficult to determine in just a few lines of posted text and can quite easily become an emotionally fuelled topic. Over reactions can cause people to get their backs up and become defensive/aggresive on both sides of the argument, when both sides are effectively in the right depending on intention vs perceived intention. I see that the above situation has resolved itself and this is a credit to the adult nature of most 300zx.co.uk forum members, unlike some lesser and frankly immature (non zed) car forums out there. I don't however feel that it's acceptable for retaliations to arise based on legacy disagreements that originated from other forums that quite frankly should not be aired on this forum and should also not be permitted to fuel an argument one way or the other. 'This' forum is our collective forum and issues originating from other forums have no place here. We've lost some well known/much loved/much hated or contraversial characters in recent years and I'll reserve judgement on that as again I don't know the ins' and outs of each case. However if members have reservations or concerns as to the manner by which certain aspects of moderating is conducted then surely that individual should, as a fully paid up and subscribed member of this forum, be able to voice his opinion on 'this' forum in a manner that is acceptable and appropriate (again not interested in the other forum). The view of like it or lump it, in my opinion, is not a true reflection of the ethos of this particular forum and we should be incouraging individuals to stay in order for us to prosper in the future? Moderating, it has been emphasised, is a voluntary thing and all credit to you guys and gal's that give your own time in order to better the forum, in many ways it can no doubt be a thankless task. The above are my own views, and I for one appreciate the fact that our forum is a collective of very different (some extremely passionate) characters from a multitude of backgrounds with a strange fixation for a particularly special (albeit expensive to fix/build) Nissan. No offence intended to any individual and if any offence has been taken then (tough f**kin' shit, man the f**k up and we'll have a straightener at the pod!!)....only joking...if any offence is caused by any of the above then it is not intended Peace :thumbup1:
  5. Worth it for the parts I think but surely it'll need a rebuild as a matter of course. No reflection on the previous rebuild of course, just with it having been stolen and then found in a field, God knows what has worked its way in there. For the right price however, it would be a good buy for someone
  6. Is this the same engine that was found in a field by the Police after it was stolen?
  7. That's quite a bit of weight to lose in a fairly short time bud, don't burn yourself out. Personally I would sack any idea of treadmill training and weights and just concentrate on running at a comfortable pace (slow for fat burning and up the anti for CV), with the occasional swimming and circuit session/bleep test. Try to train for what you need to achieve in November (ie. situps, pressups and 1.5 mile run etc) and don't train for what you anticipate that you will be doing when you start basic training, regardless of where you go they will start you off slow and will gradually build up to carrying belt kit and bergan etc. Avoid any temptation to put a pack on your back or boots on your feet at this stage, there's really no need to do it. Keep it simple and safe, wear trainers only for now, find yourself a nice steady level route, possibly throw some short hill sprints or shuttle runs in to break it up a bit. Of course I don't know if you're looking at joining the Army (Inf, Para or other arms), RAF or Navy. As I'm sure you're aware they all have different entry standards and requirements, which I assume you've been advised on and are working towards. If you want to have a chat drop me a PM bud good luck
  8. Realistically if it's rust free underneath and generally in good condition I would expect it to sell for anywhere between £500 - £1000. I personally believe that it's worth twice that however there have been a few Z31's for sale in the last 18 months where the sellers have had them up for between £2000-£2500. Last time I looked they hadn't had any takers. So I suppose in todays market, it's true worth as a 'classic' and what a buyer is prepared to pay for it as a 'car' are completely different things.
  9. Same as ^^^^ (Stillen front and rear ARB's on UK spec LWB), using Whiteline and CZP droplinks planning on fitting them on the SWB shortly
  10. I've found that the best way to stop my Polish neighbours dogs from lighting bonfires in the garden is to give them a bit of pot....keeps them quiet :tt2:
  11. Lyndbrook £194 fully comp for my 1995 SWB twin turbo manual limited mileage, but as they didn't ask what the odometer reading was when I took out the policy then it doesn't really matter I suppose No claims is on the family MPV, Lyndbrook wouldn't take it into account anyway and I just got an £87 rebate back off Sure Term after selling my Hilux so quite chuffed really
  12. I quite like it, though I think it would look more complete if you carried on the theme with a nice pair of JGTC style low and straight skirts with an open rear bumper with integrated diffuser. One solution to any potential weight and repair issues I suppose would be to make a mould and produce a number of FRP parts from it good effort though bud
  13. Yeah agree totally, back in the day Zelda was quite a looker but now she's UGLY!!
  14. Looks like a nice fit bud There are a few parts that are different between the SWB and the LWB that you perhaps wouldn't expect one of which is the fuel cover/door, I was told that they were both the same but when I tried fitting the cover off my LWB onto the SWB on the weekend they are completely different
  15. Yep that's the one mate, good find. I knew it was one of the big engine oil suppliers. I stand corrected it was Mobil not Castrol, a hell of an advert for their product to be fair. imagine if modern state of the art oils were used! 1 million miles.....how many sets of tyres is that?
  16. I can remember an article quite a few years ago where I believe it was Castrol and BMW, who teamed up to conduct a 1 million mile 'simulated average driving conditions' test on a brand new BMW. Having completed the million mile test they stripped the engine down to assess piston wear etc and it was reported as minimal. I would have thought that if a VG30DETT or similar zed engine were maintained from new to the highest standard then it should last well into the 200,000+ miles, but when you don't know the history of the engine then that in my opinion is when the average person generally will walk away I can't say from experience that a VG would hold out beyond 200,000+ miles and I'm sure there are people on this forum who are better placed to comment. Maybe the block would be good good for it but knowing at what stage additional components such as turbos, head gaskets, manifolds etc need replacing perhaps plays a large part. I suppose if you have £3,000 to spend on a zed and you are faced with the choice of a 70,000 mile example or a 100,000 mile example that is maybe £1000 cheaper I think a lot of people would air on the side of caution and go for the lower mileage car (though clocking is always a risk) and history will play a big part.
  17. You're right about OZ mate, NZ as well by all accounts. A couple of the lads that I worked with are kiwi's and all very much into their V8s, one bought himself a VXR8 recently but conceeded that it got trounced by a GTR on his way back from his mrs house. 'Godzilla' (the original R32) is still idolised by many as a true legend. He took my LWB for a spin a while back now and complimented it on its power though said it just lacked something but didn't know what? Zed prices are going up but it does seem to take a while to sell
  18. Yep and I've got my Sparco Mankini all ready to go for track days!
  19. Yeah agree, that's why I've reverted back to stock on the shortie' the carbon kits gone back onto the track zed and this is the colour I've opted for, and it contrasts surprisingly nicely. with white rims with black and white decals
  20. Shorting, possibly causing safety boost to kick in?
  21. So it's a Gloria VG30DET + Gloria loom + Gloria ECU in a Z31?
  22. Didn't the Z31 turbo have a VG30ET not VG30DET?
  23. Yeah internet crashed so updated it about 30 seconds later, damn you're fast bud!
  24. Well my track zed is still in bits and with an attic and garage full of upgraded parts and boxes of bits the temptation to fit them to the Shortie' has been over powering adjustable suspension and coilovers is a given but I was curious to see what the carbon fibre bonnet, nose panel etc would look like on a black shortie' so I test fitted it today and to be honest....it did nothing for me so I switched back to stock. All the carbon kit is going to stay on the track zed and the shortie' will remain sleeper'ish
  25. Customer or ram raider??? only joking mate, what was the issue with the tapping and is it a healthy zed now?
