1. A related issue and one you've touched on is the huge divide between the North and South, as far as jobs are concerned. Most countries have a West-East or North-South divide, but in the UK (especially England) the gap is shameful and successive governments have done nothing to address this issue. Unless you work in the public sector (doctors, nurses, teachers), ALL other jobs are in the South, in particular the South East. This means that for generations to come, there will continue to be a brain and skill drain from the North to the South. I myself grew up in Yorkshire and first moved to the Midlands, and am now in the South East. Why? Simple. There are very few (if any) jobs in the Telecommunications/Electronics/Engineering sector in the North. All of the major companies are in the South East, and will continue to be. If the government was serious about moving jobs around, they would slash taxes for companies that relocate, give them free land and other grants. In return, they would insist on a commitment of at least 10 years, if not more. In today's world of balancing books, it just might work. The company I work for (multinational with more than 100,000 employees) considered moving to the midlands 5 years ago. They even started negotiating leases etc. Ultimately however they gave up as they found the costs to be no less than the South East (exc. London), links to London very poor etc. I am sure however that had there been substancial investments, i would now possibly be sitting in the Midlands. That's just 1 example; I'm sure there are many.
2. That said, the more that die means that there are less in the UK, which eventually should increase the overall value and therefore the price. Also, plenty of spare parts available! Some good then...
3. My view is going to be controversial but is not intended to offend anyone. I know economics and common sense rules in the end but here goes... For people who are real Z32 fans (I have loved the car since it was launched in 1989) and have followed most Japanese cars closely (especially Nissans), it is heartbreaking and upsetting to see threads breaking up Z32s or selling them for pennies. I can only imagine that those breaking these cars are people who have little or no idea what the Z32 is or have no respect for the great car. Ultimately however, the reason the cars are in their hands in the first place is simply due to their disgracefully low price. If they held their value far better, only those who loved and respected these cars would buy them, and the last thing they would ever do is break them up. Sadly, a mixture of over supply and abuse has meant that many original owners have let them go.
4. I know all about this as I'm heavily involved with the new company. Basically Orange UK and T-Mobile UK have merged to form Everything Everywhere (I know!). Customers of either can now roam on both networks. Great for customers of either.
5. I'm about to have a re-spray done, and the workshop has asked a number of questions which could make the difference between a great job and a bad one. One of the key activities to a good job is to obviously remove as many bits and pieces as possible so here goes: 1. The black horizontal strips on the windows. How easy are these to remove? Are there any special clips that hold them in place and is there a special technique to ensure that they do not snap? Can the clips be re-used? If not, where could I get replacements from? Also, can new strips be bought and how much? 2. Scuttles below the windscreen. Is there an alternative to re-spraying them as mine are quite worn, i.e. can replacements be bought and how much are they likely to be? Thanks.
6. Used unleaded for a year before putting some Momentum in 3 months ago. The transformation in overall performance was completely unexpected and haven't gone back since (also it's only 5p more per litre so so big deal). Tried V-Power but it didn't seem as good as Momentum.
7. ZXTT - great advice and definitely worth trying. Question : won't the shoe polish come off on your hand as you use the wheel?
8. Vauxhall Vectra 2.0SRi. Despite having had better cars since, it's my favourite for a combination of reasons. I was 25, it was brand new, deep shiny black, looked great, was quick and handled fantastically. Had it for 4 years and was sad to see it go, even though it was replaced by a 2.8l V6 E-class. Photo is not of my car, but an exact match.
9. Hi all, Looking for your advice as some of you may have successfully deal with this problem before. I've recently bought a Z OEM steering wheel which has turned out to be...terrible. The attached photos tell the story. Is there any way of dealing with the damage and wear and tear that you can see in the photos, for example using leather conditioners, dyes etc? The obvious next step should be to return the wheel however if there is anything I can do, then I will certainly have a go! Thanks. 10. Nice to see but so 80s...I mean 90s!
11. Welcome to the club. I won 3 times last year and have enjoyed life all the more since!
12. I know it's not much help, but a place in Slough (A4 Tyres) charges £5 a wheel. It's on Bath Road, near J4 of the M4.
13. Yep, the angles are almost identical, as are the sweeps.
14. This one is certainly more fussy, but also has some nice modern touches. The basic architecture is the same.
15. Was looking at a number of cars on the net (no apparent reason!) when it suddenly dawned on me how similar this interior looks to the Z32. Infact, it looks like a natural evolution of the gorgeous interior that we have in our cars. Pity the 350 or 370 could not have had this. BTW, it's from a 2005 Mercedes SL500. 16. I think the consensus is that assuming all is well with your Z and you drive "normally", you should get 16-18 in town and mid-high 20s on the motorway.
17. It is initially surprising that N/As are not more economical than TTs, but it's down to the fact that we have to push them hard to make them shift. You don't have to do that in the TT...
18. Mine's an NA and I get 16-18 in town and around 28 in town. But then my Merc does 14 in town, so I'm happy! Things like tyre pressures can also make a big difference, especially on the motorway.
19. As far as looks are concerned, the Z32 was a real exotic when it was launched and in a completely different class to most sports cars. Even today, in the right colour and spec, it is definitely much better looking than both the Z33 and Z34. It's just disappointing that after the Z32, there isn't really an upgrade path, especially if you want a 2+2. The R34 and R35s are awesome cars, but just don't have the looks of an exotic.
20. I know I'm asking for trouble but here goes... ...when the 370Z was first announced, I was absolutely delighted. The photos looked great and early reports suggested that it was great to drive and far superior to the 350 in every way. Having now seen a couple on the road (only a couple compared to hundreds of 350s...) and also read the latest reviews, the picture doesn't seem quite as rosy. Many have commented how the last incarnation of the 350 is better to drive, more agile and more refined, where as the 370 has been criticised by the majority as very noisy, and not as exciting as the 350. As for looks, I must admit that I was rather underwhelmed. Very short, slab-sided and frankly not as attractive as I had imagined, especially in grey and light blue. Quite disappointing, but at least the 350Z is looking more promising, especially as it's not too expensive 2nd hand! Any thoughts?
21. Checked the windscreen washer reservoir today and to my astonishment found the water to be black and small bits of goey stuff floating about. It was a nice clear blue only 2 weeks ago and has been fine for the last year. Any ideas?
22. Thanks guys; it got me quite worried to be honest. Car has been perfect for over a year (touch wood) and temperature remains constant. Just wasn't sure if a new problem was developing.
