1. Should be fine. Not sure the trend of using fully synthetic in old cars is a good idea anyway.
2. Do that and your car really will be perfect...I may even consider buying it when you finally decide to send it to a good home!
3. More photos.
4. After the roof painting exercise yesterday, went for the roof bars themselves today. Decided to use black glossy vinyl, as a quicker and easier option, and one that I could easily reverse if I had to. A huge thanks to Wooly for his advice, help and materials. The job was OK, and got easier as I progressed. The great thing about using the vinyl is that I can easily redo any of the bars in the future if I decide the look isn't as perfect as I would like. Overall, quite happy with the result and certainly makes the car look more modern. Photos attached. I do however have some questions: - How long is the vinyl likely to keep the gloss? - Will the sun make the vinyl shrink? - Can I wash the car as normal, and what's the impact on the vinyl? Can I use a sponge on the vinyl without worry? - What will rain do to the vinyl?
5. Thanks Jeff. The bar and ends are actually fine. It's just that I'm painting the roof bars today and wanted to remove the ends so that I can cover the full surface of the bar. From what you're saying, it's best to remove the whole bar first.
6. Hi, Does anyone know how to remove the rubber ends from the T-Bar, as shown in the attached photo? Thanks.
7. Yep; that's for tomorrow. Here's hoping.
8. Well, planning to turn my roof bars black this weekend, but decided that with the Targas off, the black roof bars would look rather silly with a white roof! So spent most of this afternoon painting the roof black. The finish is not as good as I would like but then it's my first time doing something like this. What do you think? 9. Good point. Might try a couple of tanks and see what happens.
10. Don't want to repeat previous discussions on this, but have read all of the posts on the subject and would be grateful for some answers to the following questions: - I currently have a NA Manual; - Always used standard supermarket fuel; - no issues with performance. If I decide to use V-Power: - will it make any difference and if yes, how long will it take for me to notice anything, i.e. instant or after 1-2 tankfuls? - how big a difference is it likely to make? - Is there any benefit is waiting until my current tank is empty or will a 50% mix be useful? Thanks.
11. I think you were kind to him. Should have done him a favour and put him out of his misery...
12. 36. 1993 300zx NA Manual (Drive daily alternating with the Merc, depending on mood) 2000 Mercedes E280 Avantgarde Tiptronic 1996 Nissan Micra (wife's)
13. I think it's too subjective an issue and requires the respondees to have been around that length of time... :-)
14. £565 with Admiral for a NA Manual with 6 years NCD. Paid £650 last year, so not bad.
15. What's your registration number? Must remember not to buy your car!
16. I think you raise a very good question there, as economics is certainly influencing the longevity of cars. Take the Z for example. Despite being A LOT of car, the majority are now worth so little that once a major component fails, many are scrapping them or breaking them (same thing). Although it makes me sad each time I see one of these great cars scrapped/broken, the economic logic is robust and perfectly sensible. With cars becoming even more advanced, parts will continue to be very expensive, and to be honest, like manufacturers of all consumer goods, car manufacturers also have to think of their future. If their cars start to last 20-30 years on average, who is going to buy the new cars? And if new cars continue to sell, and older cars live longer, then we will eventually run out of road space (some may say we already have). The scrappage scheme took lots of cars off the road, many of them very good cars. Similar culls may be necessary in the future. I'm all for cars lasting longer (espaecially special cars like the Z), but I also understand the economic and social factors. A dilemma indeed!
17. Why would somebody sell a £23k engine for £2.5k?
18. They are nice; good selection.
19. I'm sure you're correct. The Merc is only doing 3000rpm at 80mph...
20. First I've heard of a Freeview box connected to the phone line, but HD over copper has been available for at least 2 years, via your PC. "HD" video content only needs to be 4Mbps minimum, so as long as your internet connection is fast enough, then you can get in on your PC. HD is now available on freeview (through your aerial), but only in a number of regions. I must say there seems to be little point of freeview over broadband as the quality of service is likely to be questionable for a while yet. How fast is your internet connection?
21. Hi guys, I'd be grateful for a response. Reason for asking is that I received a range of tools with the car which I am sure are incorrect as none fit in the polystyrene inserts. I also have various pieces of hardboard, again not sure what I should have. Appreciate your help/advice.
22. In my Manual NA, I average 25-27 on the motorway at 80mph. I have had up to 28, but just once, although the car was fully loaded that time and the journey covered 240 miles. TBH, would have expected slightly more on the motorway as my 2.8litre V6 petrol 2 tonne e-class auto (with 173k on the clock) does 32! Still happy though.
23. Aww...I'm gutted! Good thing they've just been added to the photo for now then...I thought you would have spotted that! Personally I like them (though not how they are in the photo), and surprisingly, they will be law from 2011 (for all new cars). There was me thinking that the fad started by Audi was being shamefully copied by most of the car manufacturers. It looks like they have no choice. As for the Z32, if one was to add them, where could they go? In the slot in the bumper (as per the photo)? Could the side lights be replaced with day running lights or does the law require side lights as well as day running lights?
24. Will soon be sticking glossy black vinyl on my roof bars to see how good it looks and also hopefully as a quick alternative to painting them (thank Wooly). Anyone tried this before and do you have any tips? How did you handle the rubber strips that are on the windscreen side, as well as both ends of the central T-bar? Thanks.
