  1. Yep, couldn't agree more. I'm also a member of a Merc forum and a Jaguar forum, and they don't even come close (in every respect). This is the only forum I log in to...several times a day. The others are only used if I have an issue or a problem...even then, they're useless compared to this one. Well done to everyone for making this so great.
  2. Whilst looking at my Z the other day, a colleague at work asked me how much my private plate had cost me. At first I didn't know what he was talking about, but then I realised that the "L" reg standard number plate had confused him. I just smiled back and told him it cost me an arm and a leg! Obviously the rarity of L-reg cars and abundance of the new style plates has led some to forget what plates used to look like. A nice bonus!
  3. I know exactly what you mean. That said, and if you can get it, O2 Broadband (fixed line) is the best, for both quality and service. I was with them for 3 years and they were brilliant (inc. a free-fone UK based helpline). I recently moved to Virgin as ADSL will only ever give me 3Mbps and my area has now been cabled. 2 weeks no issues...dead today. Called Virgin @ 10p/min and they reckon it will be Wed before someone can have a look! I was livid and seriously considered cancelling first thing tomorrow morning before it mysteriously started to work again at 11pm...
  4. The stats of some of the big diesels are staggering...it's now quite common to get a diesel that can do 0-60 in 6 secs yet return 40mpg. Truly amazing...yet I'll stick to petrols for now. Much cheaper to buy!
  5. Agreed. Never liked the last/current one, but the new one looks a lot nicer.
  6. Looks absolutely stunning and if you don't mind me saying so, I'm surprised they allowed a "mini-scrapyard" to be set up so close to it! Always sad to hear of a Z death. :crying:
  7. I've always calculated the mpg manually, as the on-board computers are typically optimistic by 2-3 mpg. That said, it's not bad on this car, being only 1 mpg more than reality.
  8. I haven't personally but it was changed at the last major service.
  9. The thing is, I've also tried 50mph to see what happens, and no improvement.
  10. Good question, but on the motorway, there isn't much choice. Cruise control at a steady 70mph...
  11. Yes, they're standard wheels. It's the sport model, which comes as standard with 17" wheels and 235 rubber. That said, surely it must consume more mpg compared to 16" 215s? 7mpg seems extreme though.
  12. Tyres are new Michelins, 235 17" The standard 2.5V6 has 215 16" tyres...could the difference in tyre size make that much of a difference? The thought had crossed my mind but the brochure has both models (SE and Sport) showing the same mpg. How much difference would larger and wider tyres make in reality?
  13. Hi all, I have an issue with my daily drive that I thought I would post on here, as the people on here are far more intelligent than on any other forum! A couple of months ago, I bought a Jaguar S-Type 2.5 V6 Automatic to replace my E-class that was sadly written off over Christmas. The Jag is in mint-condition (probably the cleanest used car I have ever seen), fully dealer serviced and clearly lovingly cared for. It also had only 46,000 miles on the clock. The problem I have regards it's fuel economy, which is beginning to matter more and more as each day passes. It is supposed to return 32-34mpg on the motorway, and many Jag drivers have confirmed that they even get 37-38 on the odd run. This would make sense, as my E-class used to give me 30-32, despite having a larger engine (2.8), being heavier and having 180,000 miles on the clock. My Jag however is giving me 27 mpg - consistently. I have now done nearly 2,000 miles and the results are consistent. Despite the excellent condition and service history, I have personally checked the oil, air filter, brakes, switched off air-con etc. and cannot find anything obvious. I even visited a dealer, but he wasn't any help. Any ideas what could be the problem or what I should check next? 20% more fuel/less mileage is a lot in my opinion...on a full tank of 15 gallons, it's equivalent to over a 100 miles!
  14. This kind of thread makes this forum so great. Most of the people on here are sincere, honest and decent people, and not only is that a credit to the club but also reflects brilliantly on our beloved Zs. Dewi - I wish you all the best and the advice on here is spot on. You have your whole life in front of you, and you will be amazed at how much goodness is just round the corner. Have faith and move on; you will look back in a few months/years and wonder what all the fuss was about. Also, there's nothing better than doing a bit of travelling to put everything in to perspective.
  15. Do you mind me asking why you're moving from a 350 to a 300 (N/A)? I love the 300, but I'm not sure why you would move from a much newer 350 N/A to a much older 300 N/A. The 300 was far greater than the 350 in its time, but I would have thought that a 350 would be much better than a 300 N/A in most respects. The TT is another thing altogether of course. Unless it's the 2 extra seats... Sorry if it's already been answered somewhere on this thread.
  16. That's nice to hear. My NA was tested soon after I bought it and I got between 200 and 210 in all of the cylinders...the tester said he had never seen such a clean engine and that it was ripe for tuning. As for the process, you're absolutely correct. He had to remove so many bits i was worried he might forget to put something back!
  17. That said, once I bought the car, I realised that the rear shock absorbers were shot and had to get them replaced within weeks. Make sure that you drive the car yourself, and don't just ride in it.
  18. Sorry chaps...more detail below. LWB and the pushchair is the type which when folded, is long and reasonably compact [i hate the off-roader giant ones which are in vogue at the moment]. Trying it this morning, a part of the pushchair sits on the edge of the targas. Although I wrapped them in a blanket, my concern was that the pushchair might either damage the paintwork/seals on the targas due to the pressure or damage the glass. I suppose one method is to put everything in the boot and then place the "wrapped" targas on top.
  19. I bought my car from Crest Cars in June 2009 and (touch wood) it's been remarkably reliable so far...that's 2 years in June. My experience was therefore good, but can't speak for everyone.
  20. Been alive too long to hope that the weather will hold!
