  2. Not the stock ones with plastic end caps, no. Aircon rad is now gone. In my experience with a massive intercooler covering the entirety of the stock rad in my S13, it was perfectly fine. And that was with 382bhp@hubs on a stock 1.8L. Exactly the same goes for my Zed with an uprated engine oil cooler & autobox oil cooler under the nose panel. At full bore down the km runway at 140mph, it was 89°C at approx 25°C outside temp. Day-to-day running it hits 82°C and stays there with an uprated rad, but in fairness I've seen zero difference between the uprated & stock rad. Stock thermostat. I've never actually experienced overheating issues due to a FMIC on any car. Also, I'm pretty sure my pipework is shorter than any other Zed by quite some margin, and this just wouldn't be possible with sidemounts. I'm planning on having it even shorter (by approx 30%), with the FMIC as close to the rad as possible. I simply wouldn't be doing that if overheating was an issue. I have many logs of ECT on full bore runs (strip, road & dyno). In my experience, it's simply not a problem. If you're tracking the car with relative frequency, most would consider removing the aircon system at any rate for the weight-saving. The FMIC on my car is spot-on, and causes no issues with regards to overheating or restricting airflow to the rad :)
  3. Indeed! Not only because I make the best ones available, but because they do the job perfectly well. Jaffa has one and the boost response with the GT3071s was a flat line at 1.5 bar from 4800rpm to the redline. The only EBC I would have over an MBC would be the new Geddy PRofec. By far the best piece of kit I've ever worked with. Unbelievably accurate control to a repeatable 0.1 psi. Nothing if you're happy with them and don't require any boost control. I mapped a car with 14psi boost jets that overboosted to 17psi every single time, so not even worth the £1 or whatever welding tips cost :laugh:
  4. Definitely not zero unless the engine is off or it's a diesel. Roughly -60kpa (~9psi)
  5. Not at all. I get zero lag and no cooling issues whatsoever with a FMIC, with both stock & uprated radiators. My S13 ran a huge FMIC directly in front of the rad and I also had zero issues with that set up. Although I'm yet to quantify the gains from my 2.5" pipework on the dyno (1/4 mile now 12.6s@113mph, limited by Auto gearbox), I've seen a peak of 1.58 bar and it holds 1.2-1.3 bar to the redline on the old stock Auto turbos. Same as any modification that allows the VG to breathe, there are obvious benefits to be gained.
  6. I run BCR8ES in everything from my Zed running 450bhp to my 2L MR2 running 490bhp (2.3 bar). MGT run BCR8ES in their 8sec RA28 Celica. Either copper BCR8ES or Iridium BKR8EIX, they only have one job to do and that is to provide a spark. Both do that very well in a 600bhp Zed, and it's unlikely you'll be doing 20k miles a year (I'm assuming), so either will be fine :)

  8. It's far from the finished article, but it does the job as a first trial test. If anyone's ever fitted the Z1 2.5" pipe kit, you'll know how difficult a job it is. Our kit was designed, built (including tig welding) and fitted in just 13hrs (minus stopping for a mapping session on Silverline's car) as part of a mad rush for TOTB.
  9. Stripped the interior, fixed driver's electric window, fitted carbon fibre sidemount bucket seat & custom seat mount, fitted Sabelt harness. Tomorrow will fit Greddy Profec B to see if it's any better than my MBC on the Zed (doubtful). At least it will save me having to open the bonnet. Big up to my pit guy Damien for a sterling day's work, who will also be accompanying me to TOTB in about 2 hrs :blink: Yesterday fitted the prototype Turbonoz/Silverline entry model FMIC & 2.5" pipework kit. Shortest pipework I've seen on a Zed, and can still be made shorter. So much more responsive than the generic kits.
  10. Gotta get the name right buddy :D Who told you the chip is only for standard power? It's a good car, AIVs were gurgling but that was the only issue. It had fresh plugs in before I sold it to Ken, BKR7E to be exact. I hope you replaced like-for-like. Who did the cambelt change? It drove perfectly before ;)
  11. They look the same as the fake SARD FPRs that flooded the market. I have a SARD (or possibly a snide) which has been spot-on for about 8 years on various different cars. On the Zed, I use a Nismo adj FPR. Need to have an inline gauge though.
  12. It's fine, I'm more than happy to have any issues aired on a forum where I'm a trader. Think it's only fair in the long run whenever the exchange of money for a servce is concerned. Hence I thought it best to just give my side of the story as openly as possible :)

  15. Boost jets?! That's soooooo 1995 :wack: The pressure reference lines to the actuators run from underneath the intercooler pipes either side of the radiator (before the throttle bodies).

  18. P.S. If anyone is still wanting to enter as part of the 300zx.co.uk team, it isn't too late! There are 5 places left for entrants (out of 120), so it's very nearly sold out completely. But not quite... :D I will post up the full entry list as soon as it's finalised. As of right now there are only 18 RWD entrants. No team of Supras, RX7s or any other one-make RWD team. GTOs have a team in the 4WD category, as do GTROC, MLR & 22B.com. FWD have Team Honda & Team Vauxsport. This year, the Zeds will be the most prolific RWD car there, plus the only one-make RWD team! Suffice to say, I'm rather proud of being part of a team of Zeds, not to mention being involved with 4 out of 5 :thumbup1:

    The pit lane is an open affair, and doubles as the main walkway for spectators, so you get to walk around and see everything. You can even help out as much or as little as you like! The only thing you don't get is unlimited runs down the strip :cool:

Unfortunately the MR2 won't get done in time at a reasonable cost (UK prices > USA/OZ prices) so plan was changed to concentrate on the Zed and ensure I organise a full team of competing Zeds for 300zx.co.uk. I'm still to map Jaffa's, Silverline's, plus my own on race fuel, after creating a new FMIC set up & 2.5" pipework with the help of Mr Silverline this week. Would have loved to get my hands on Keano's car as well :D
  22. I do go around the rear of all cars I map in order to fit the wideband sensor in the tailpipe, and the boot is opened to feed the cable through to my box of tricks. The boot light was disconnected in this case as well, in order to prevent the battery going flat. If I had caused that damage myself, or it had occurred whilst I was mapping the car at the dyno, I would indeed have simply paid for it to be sorted (professionally) after informing the owner. Accidents do happen, the main thing is to be prepared and to rectify them, and as has been mentioned, it's happened to this owner twice before with other traders. I have no idea what's happened here, though. Just waiting on photos.
