  1. thank's mate will try that later, am at work at mo (on pda) got a feeling i may have messed up the soldering, did it from back of pcb. :-(
  2. yep it still moves right up the scale at slow speeds, then goes back to zero above about 30mph(true). does the same each time i stop and move away again. did remove needle, but seemed to come off ok (without spindle). had no probs with needle when changing dials last year. yep got a multimeter. also cruise control not working nick
  3. no, just the same as before. def something i've done cos it worked ok (in kph) b4.
  4. Finally got round to converting kph to mph using the resistor way. Took out the r10 and replaced with 20k resistor. am not the best solderer going but it seemed ok. put it all back together and went for a test. as soon as i moved off the speedo needle started shooting up quicker than the rev counter!!!! Read 120 mph at approx 25mph true (from gps). then after that went back to zero and refused to move. tried to reposition needle but was still exactly the same. dont know wot went wrong. checked board again, all seems ok......... any ideas??? could i have damaged pcb. (as previously mentioned not the best with soldering). :headvswal :headvswal cheers nick anyone got a speedo for sale :( :(

  15. thanks for the advice wez. think the filter is probably blocked hence the having to stop to get drive back(think all the crap drops out of the filter and then gets sucked back up again!) it's how the filter blocked and the burning smell from the oil that bothers me. will check it out though b4 i write it off completely. thanks again nick

  17. ok so i've calmed down a bit today, time to weigh up my options. do i get auto box rebuilt? replaced? or go for manual conversion.??? think i'd prefer the manual conversion option but got a feeling that, apart from sourcing the parts it may be a bit too pricey. so rebuilt or replaced?? am going away for 3 weeks from sunday so ideally would like to leave car b4 i go and pick it up 3 weeks later  all ideas greatly appreciated cheers nick
  18. thanks for the advice/sympathy. just feeleing a bit stupid cos i never fitted that oil cooler. hindsights' a wonderful thing aint it. think i'd rather have a manual conversion but seems that finding the parts is the prob. may just have to get the box rebuilt as suggested. and all the week before my holiday to cyprus for 3 weeks.... doh cheers nick
  19.  lost the gearbox on m25 last night.  stuck in loads of traffic, started slipping when moving away. eventually lost drive completely! after pulling over, stopping and restarting engine got drive back for a short time(although slipping like mad). limped home like this having to stop repeatedly, probably doing more damage on the way   i'm embarassed to say the i bought an autobox cooler last summer from chris @greddy but never got round to fitting it. anyone got any cheering words of advice, am too depressed to look through search history for ideas. nick

  23. hi folks, could do with a some advice please. was driving my 94 celica 2.0 auto on m25 yesterday. had done about 20miles when suddenly started to get a rumbling through steering at about 75mph. thought i had a puncture so pulled over to check but all seemed ok. when i pulled off again car was fine up to about 50mph but under any load i.e acceleration, above that could feel a juddering. the more power i put on the worse it got. felt like the whole bloody car was shaking apart :( when i eased off it stopped. only seems to be at speeds above 50mph??? the engine seems fine throughout, not missing or anything. thought maybe driveshaft ?? any ideas would be greatly appreciated cos its my daily runner and if i cant sort it will have to put the miles on the Z  cheers in advance nick
  24. 432, but hey i am a driving examiner ! ;) nick
  25. Just renewed insurance with houghtons again. after chatting to the chaps there about struggling to keep milage under 5k per year on their classic policy they came back to me with a quote on their every day classic. has the same cover as the classic but with no milage restriction. i dont remember it being available last year. cost me £150 extra using 5 years no claims bonus. great value i thought. taking Z to belgium at weekend :D :D nick
