What's this noise in my engine bay!
Jez, it sounds like one of the vacuum tanks of the clutch is leaking try disconnecting this hose (block of the piece that comes from the plenum) and listen if you still get the sound. if the sound is gone, then it's probably the tank that's in the fender. To get to it you'll have to remove the plastic shield in the wheel well -Eric

Clutch plate and cover part number
30100-45P10 (disc) has been replaced by 30100-45P11 pn of the cover (30210-40P05) is still the same.

supercharger and 2 turbos : RB26DETTS would it fit in a Zed ? ;)

US spec Rear dampers (same as UK?)
EU/UK partnr. is 56210-37P25 I have fitted the 56210-30P25's on a few EU-spec cars without any problems ...they are exactly the same. Non adjustable (NA/Jspec) shocks : 56210-33P25 wiring up US adj. front shocks on a EU/UK spec car is a different story ! The EU/UK models don't have the front actuators, wiring and connectors for it and the actuator control unit is slightly different in US cars as well (also because on US cars there is a seperate switch to choose between "touring" and "sport".) It is possible and has been done, but you'll need 2 extra actuators, 2 actuator brackets, wiring harness and the US actuator control unit and some other small bits. -Eric

US spec Rear dampers (same as UK?)
US adj. rear dampers are EXACTLY the same as the European and UK dampers... The Jspec and NA dampers aren't adjustable, but can also be used. -Eric

Oh dear
have you checked the PTU connector(s) for corrosion yet ? otherwise check all connectors of the injectors for that green stuff... -Eric

Should I be annoyed
Nissan didn't put those waterlines there just because it looks nice.. with the engine out, it's very easy to reconnect these lines. as you say..forgotten ? lazyness ? Or do you have upgraded turbos installed ? since not all turbos are both oil and watercooled. -Eric

Turbo Conversion???
I twinturboed my NA, without internally modifying the engine and the car runs like a dream since late march. Very powerful (340 hp at the wheels at 0.7 bar of boost) and virtually no turbolag compared to a TT. However this "little" project is not for the weak of heart and is a motor out job. You also need LOTS of parts from a TT (intercoolers, injectors, intake piping, several engine parts) and a custom ECU NOS is cheaper and a lot easier. -Eric

Inlet cam variation
could it be adjustable camshaft pulleys (for tuning purposes) ? ..like the ones from from eg. Tomei. -Eric

wheel judder when braking
It's also very important to have the wheelnuts torqued to factory specs with a wrench (not pneumatic) -Eric

Cooling Fan
electric fans and TT Zeds do not mix ! On a NA it could be worthwhile but NOT on a TT It has been tried before and has killed quite a few engines This because most elec fans don't even get near halve the cfm at full speed as the stock viscous fan. -Eric

Smithy Z question.
my story: The oldtimers on this forum might still remember that a few years ago there was a groupbuy on breatherkits organised by Johnny from Grasshopper. This kit (made by Turbotechnics, I think) was going to solve all problems regarding smokey turbos and oil in your intake pipes, etc. Together with lots of others on this forum, I also decided to join in with this groupbuy and after about 6 months I finally received something that later appeared to be the biggest piece of crap in history. The idea about the kit was nice, but the materials used in the kit were crap. The kit used small one way valves and filters and it worked as follows: ON BOOST the one way valves are closed, filters allow crankcase fumes to escape into the air induction to prevent build up, as per standard breather system. OFF BOOST, Internal valves inside the filters are closed preventing air from being drawn into turbo charger inlet pipes. One way valves now open, drawing a vacuum from the inlet manifold, into the engine crankcase via the rocker cover connections. The problem was that it caused a very high vacuum in the crankcase during OFF boost situations (the state the engine is in most of the time) causing all sorts of problems, like low oil pressure, rough idle, hesitation, etc. So I made something that sort of combines the idea about Stillen's PCV upgrade and the breatherkit as described above, but with a low/limited crankcase vacuum. For my kit I used 2 small catch cans similar to these: I installed the 2 catchcans under the nosepanel near the headlights since you have plenty of room there (even with dual intakes) Sofar it works good and I no longer have oil in the intakes/plenum (my turbos never smoked, so I don't know about that) -Eric

Noise when pulling off throttle?
Do you have the aircon on when you hear that sound ? because the aircon switches off at full throttle and back on when lifting off the throttle. This sometimes makes a sound similar to a blowoff, but not so loud. -Eric

Whats the way round detonation......
Mac, I'm running a breather system with catchcan similar to Stillen's design. Although the catchcan doesn't seem to "catch" much oil I got rid of the oil in the intercoolers and intake pipes. It's most benificial on the track, but I haven't taken my car there lately. -Eric

Replace or Rebuild a first gen engine?
the very early cars had socalled "soft" valves and a fabrication fault in the head that has the CAS connected to it. Not sure if there was a recall for it in Japan, but in the US there was.. It might be worthwhile to see if there has been a recall for this in Japan though, because if it is then Nissan UK should fix the problem for you free of cost ! (this might take a little effort and phonecalls to the Nissan headquarter though) I had a similar problem with one of my cars (which is a US-spec) and Nissan Holland had to fix the problem for me for free, because in the US there was a recall for the problem I had. oh...and 2000 for a "new" NA engine sounds a little steep though !! You should be able to get one for less. (around 1000) I might have a good '94 NA engine available soon if you're interested. -Eric

adjust idle speed
Don't touch the TPS ... it's not for adjusting idle !! Always use the idle adjustment screw on the back of the engine as described in the link that Andy posted.
