compression test results?
I can see timing being out lowering compression, but how would it increase it without the engine running :confused1:

HDD problems?
It could be - see how many bad sectors you've got and take it from there... take a back up now though, a drive can go pretty quickly if it's failing. If the sector is physically damaged, it will be marked as bad - ok if it's just the odd one, but not good if it's the beginning of the end!

Removing a manual box
I doubt it - state of your engine mounts dictates how far the engine will shift, but I did mine over a pit and the engine barely moved - but it was enough to stop the box going on.

Clear fog light lense?
Just a thought... but there may be more interest in a replica tail light insert (99 spec) if they're an exact copy?

Paint sraying equipment help
If you're contemplating 2k, speak to someone who knows what they're doing first! And be careful where you do it! And as hinted at above you need an airfed mask, with filters...

Rolling road
Depends on the car! Your peak power and torque will be somewhere before your max. so makes no difference if cars are revved to different limits (assuming of course they're revved enough!). Rich

Sending a battery?
I'd ask the supplier to arrange it, even if you pay for it... none of the couriers we use at work would carry batteries!

530d or 535d?
I had an e60 530d - very impressive for a diesel, but make sure it's got a perfect service history... ideally with an additional oil change between services... mine didn't and when the turbo went it went quite spectacularly! They have a habit of dropping all the oil when it happens - hydrolocked my engine, but fortunately I shut it off in time! Auto gearbox can go wrong too - mine was starting to play up in sport mode, but fine in normal. Supposedly sealed for life, but worth changing the fluid anyway. There is a way to reset the learning mode of them too - worth doing as they adapt to driving style and you may find it's jerky if the previous owners driven steady and you floor it, and vice versa. Run flat tyres are a nightmare, get rid of them! Alarms go off all the time (despite checking tyre pressure weekly) and I had a flat once where the tyre wall collapsed (manufacturing fault) but BMW assist wouldn't cover it because it had runflats(!) likewise breakdown wouldn't come out because I didn't have a spare! Much quieter on regular tyres, and you;ll appreciate the savings when it comes to tyre time!! Driven a 335d too, and it's a pretty big jump in performance - worth driving both. Obviously, like a zed, bills (can) go up proportionally if things go wrong, but servicing shouldn't be too bad from an independent. Final thought, why do you want a diesel? All in, mine ended up costing more to run in 2 years with the turbo replacement than a petrol would have - i.e. it wiped out the fuel savings. I also only averaged about 32mpg with 45mpg on a run, if I was easy. The opinion on forums is that you get good and bad ones, with pretty substantial differences - lots of people get up to around 50, but I always felt the need to boot it, which obviously didn't help!!

Do you think the insurance will cover this?
As said above - I'd wait until she went out and go back in and change the locks once more... even if you have to pay a solicitor to defend you, if it comes to it, at least you can fix and re-let the property and also avoid any more trouble when he inevitably turns up again!

Car phone warehouse wrongly priced phone.
That was in reply to the comment about retail shops, so no problem with it. As for it being accepted, they didn't accept the money - it was an automated transaction, which was reversed as soon as they realised the pricing mistake... and as I said, if you refer to the terms and conditions, it will no doubt cover such errors. By all means contact CAB, but the above is the reality.

Decat 6K fine
haha, why didn't you tell him to stop talking out of his arse?!
-
Car phone warehouse wrongly priced phone.
No, they're not. Keep an eye on the website though - they are now aware of the error and should correct it... if they don't do so within a reasonable time, Trading Standards would be interested - and if you shouted loud enough they would probably let you have it! Check their terms and conditions too - there'll no doubt be a clause regarding errors and omissions.

Car phone warehouse wrongly priced phone.
Actually, they're not. Provided that it is an honest mistake, and not a ruse to entice customers, a mis-priced item doesn't have to be sold at all; the ticket is an invitation to treat under contract law, and they are within their rights to refuse your offer to purchase & therefore there is no contract with you. That said, they must immediately rectify the mistake, otherwise it moves from being an oversight to an illegal practice. Rich

Just set it off - I did mine, and there's just loads of smoke...

Skip Hire
Just be careful about what you're putting in it - they can (should!!) refuse oils, solvents and plenty of other stuff you'll likely be clearing out of your garage... obviously depends on the company whether they're bothered tho! If you can borrow a van, it may be more cost effective to take it to a trade waste place - drive on to weigh bridge, unload, back on to weighbridge and pay tonnage on the waste - done it a few times myself, similar restrictions may apply tho!

Diesel runaround advice needed.
It's probably the on-board mpg... I've got e46 320d which averages an actual 52mpg but the dash indicates 60mpg.

Best garage in the midlands for 300zx?
If it's price putting you off, do the clutch yourself - fairly straightforward if you've got a decent set of tools; obvious thing you may not have is extensions to reach some of the bellhousing bolts. As for taking it to a non-specialist, wouldn't bother for something so important as the cambelt!

headlight adjustment
HAve a look here: http://300zx.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=1364293&postcount=3 There is a good chance that they will be knackered - I replaced mine with metal gears, as per this thread: http://300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=62341&highlight=tamiya+headlight hth Rich

Fog light switch question
To be honest, if it was foggy enough to really need fog lights, then I wouldn't drive so close that it'd annoy me!

Fog light switch question
Just do what's been said above and run an extra relay off the one switch; you could then disconnect the front fogs for mot; remove them if they were stubborn over it. Can't see any reason why they would fail you for having the wrong symbol, the only requirement is a tell tale: http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_130.htm hth Rich

Any BMW e34 experts
Have a look at bimmerforums.co.uk - nothing like on here, but because of their strict thread titles it's really easy to search...

can anyone make a plasma tv stand?
You'd be lucky to get the oem stand - but that wouldn;t have bolted to the back anyway... you just need a table mounted vesa compatible stand which will support the weight of the TV - fittings are standard, so doesn't matter which model, just the weight. hth. Rich

Took Zedward for his last spin today
It's fair enough though - no legal way to test drive unless you've got trade plates!
