Headlights finally sorted
After all the aggrevation (MOT failure for sh*te headlights!) they're finally sorted!!! :D :D :D Thought I'd share the process... *Removed headlights without taking off bumper (lots of patience and stubby spanners!!!) *Took out high beam housing *Removed adjusters and lubricated them *Cleaned inside the housing using babywipes on the end of a wire coathanger *Dried inside with kitchen paper on end of coathanger *Replaced bulbs with '+50% Xenon Technology Bulbs' (Halfords own as that's all I could get in a rush) *Refitted lights and altered beam adjustment. You wouldn't believe how much black crap was on the inside of the lenses - no wonder they were useless. Strange thing is, they looked clean... I could see the bulbs from the outside perfectly. The dirt was all trapped in the 'refractor lines' so it's no suprise i couldn't get a decent pattern from them! The difference is unbelievable!!!! I used to have to drive up the lanes with full beam and spots on, now i can do it with just dipped beam! Anyone with poo headlights should consider giving them a good clean - few hours work will definately be worth it considering how dark it's getting before you've even finished work!! Thanks to everyone who gave me tips!! Rich

Currently cleaning & replacing bulbs in my headlights due to MOT failure  Just need to check: When you switch onto high beam, should the low beam bulb remain on?? I'm sure someone told me it should! BTW, it's a 90 jspec Rich

cats
yep, no 'direct' effect on ECU; It'll just have to re-learn since some of the running conditions will have changed. One word of advice... do it properly - don't just smash them out! Rich

cats
(assuming that it's a pre 92!!), just remove them and reset the ECU.

mot fail - any ideas??
so the plan of action is... clean lenses and reflectors, replace high beam bulb (low beam fine!) and check beam alignment. thanks for advice, lets hopre some plonker's put bulbs in wrong Rich actually, come to think of it, one of the low beam bulbs was a butchered wrong type when i came to change it... might be on to something!

mot fail - any ideas??
After worrying all day what it was going to fail on (!!!) i've finally had the news... ... fail on headlights! They said there was no discernable pattern to the main beam. So, am I going to have to do 'the upgrade' or will just cleaning them do the trick?? Also, having read a few other posts and not being clear: On full beam, should the additional round lamps stay on?? (It's a '90 import). Any quick fixes would be great, as the mot's expired at the moment, and I want to be driving it! Rich

wet weather
separate from the airbox - thin black plastic contoured 'tray' right underneath where your apexi is. There's a possibility they bent it up out of the way when putting the induction on... It's not particularly flexible though, so you might have to remove filter to get it back down. Rich

wet weather
you like my 'tagline' huh?!? with the induction - did you make sure you left the splashguard in place?? As well as air, they suck in water very well too, and as we all know, engines don't like water!! I had a similar problem with mine after trying to ensure it was getting as much air as possible... doh!;) hth Rich
