  1. Finnaly got my zed running again after a couple of weeks of problems, but it's running rough as hell... It happens throughout rev range, and is almost put - putting!! I've searched and found a few similar problems, but nothing quite the same!? ECU's only got fault code for temp sender (which it had before), so this shouldn;t be the cause!! Anyone any ideas? I've replaced the spark plugs, and at some point PTU, CAS and soldered the TPS in an attempt to track down probs. I've cleaned all connectors in sight and checked hoses! How do i check the injectors?? (i've turned the CAS with the ignition on, and they are firing, but i don't know how well etc... Any ideas appreciated! Rich
  2. me too - no squelin!! :D
  3. that's the best solutoin i've heard - thanks for that! Stops me sittin round scratchin my ar*#!! :D
  4. he was a window cleaner, and jumped into the building... NEXT!
  5. usually would, but as i didn't realise it was stuck round the plug i tried another spark plug socket and did a really good job of gettin it stuck fast!! sure i'll figure a way round it... thanks for tryin!
  6. hmmm, not quite so simple! the rubber bit's so rammed on, I can't get another socket on it!! thought about trying to cut it away, but not to keen on all the bits going inside... I just need something long enough to grab it, but normal 'grabbers' are too wide!
  7. Finally got the Zed running again (sadly a day after the Chester Meet!!), but there's one small problem... I've managed to 'lose' the rubber insert from the spark plug socket - and eventually found it wrapped around a spark plug!! Anyone had a similar problem, or am i Gonna have to figure this one out for myself?!?
  8. Ok, I'll try them tonight with a bit of luck! Although when I tried to remove the CAS the other night, it didn't want to come out!! Also, when the trouble first started, the ECU had error code for CAS. I've got a spare one, but it clicked when i spun it, but went quite after a while... I'm assuming it was just a because it hadn't been used for ages?? DO these 'go bad'? Or are they simple magnetic sensors as on other cars? Is it worth stripping down and cleaning??
  9. A bit of a strange one... I couldn't get my car started the other night after cleaning some connectors and running a diagnostic. After trying all the usual (checking connectors, ECU, etc etc), it still wouldn't start! After looking at a few threads, I saw someone tried turning the screw on the ECU clockwise then straight back. Amazingly, IT WORKED!! Any ideas why? - does an immobiliser prevent the ECU switching back to normal mode? Finally, when it did run again, it's not firing on all cylinders  Could this be a result of the PTU packing up?? I've checked connections on the coil packs etc, and they seem fine, although they are pretty fragile... are they easy to replace?? Sorry for such a long thread, but i really want to have it up and running again for the Chester meet on Saturday!! Rich

It's just easy to 'forget' to take it easy! Turbo timer's aren;t expensive and could save £££'s in the long run. I always take the belt and braces approach - take it easy (ish) for the last few miles, then let the turbo timer do its work!
  11. I think this will only work in court since the unsigned form is inadmissable as evidence - it must actually be thrown out by the court (rather than dropped by the police). However, there is a separate offence of failing to identify the driver, which would probably be pursued. Also, the first case of this kind was related to the form being signed on someone's behalf (a footballer's agent iirc), and the court would probably take a very dim view if you purposefully 'negected' to sign the form... I did read somewhere that it was decided that this was not a loophole which needed closing as it didn't apply to 99% of cases! Richonly
  12. my dad's in the Police (arghhh), and he told me that they have fourteen days to produce notice, UNLESS they have valid reason for not being able to. e.g., as mentioned, driving someone elses car, or you have the wrong address registered with DVLA. I think the fourteen day rule also allows 'subject to normal postal service' - so you should be ok at the moment! HTH RIch
  13. I parked up to watch a timing belt being done, and everything was fine, then came to start it last night and it just wouldn't fire! Put in a series II PTU since that seemed like the most likely culprit, bt still no joy! Tried new ECU- same. Next checked the fuel pump, which was fine and fuel pressure ok. Then checked for spark - nothing! Suspected TPS (but thought this would just make it run rough), cleaned up, still no spark. Diagnostic gave code for CAS (on new ECU), but it seems to be 'jammed in' - it will adjust each way, but wouldn't come free!?! At the moment I'm suspecting: loom to PTU, Immobiliser (but it was already installed, so don't know how to reset - and shouldn't let the starter turn), and now the relay as mentioned above!! Although Ben did try a relay, just not sure if it's the same one!! Rich
  14. Oh my god!! Mine's doing exactly the same as of last night, I tried pretty much everything including swapping ECU... The diagnistic's saying CAS, but does this stop the spark?? Also, the immobiliser is suspect as it's beeping like fook all the time!! (Although it shouldn;t even let the starter turn as you say!) These cars...

mine, got stuck one day, but would go down with a bit of a jiggle! Anyways, one day i caught it on some overgrown bushes and fooked it! So... (too the point), I had a look in several forums and apparently there's an alternative - an electric ariel from Tandy's. BUT, they're out of business now, but Maplin do one for about £25, will get one and try it oneday... unless anyone can tell me it wont go in!?!
  16. simply because i'm not sure i could trust them!! I've heard several horror stories about different organizations causing even more damage trying to diagnose problems on a car they've never lifted the bonnet on before... For example turning the engine over numerous times after the head gasket's gone!
  17. wouldn't have thought they were speed cameras - supposedly concealed cameras are not to be used anymore?? (or does this just apply to fixed cameras??) Any lawyers on here...
  18. Ok - I'll call you this afternoon when the boss is away!! Rich
  19. Hmmmm, i was considering doing it myself - with some help from a friend. BUT, he's never done a zed before and he's been told it's a bit of a PITA. He's done his GTO no probs though. Is there any chance i could pop up and have a gander on Sunday - get an idea of what i'd be gettin myself into... Rich
  20. if you've got XP, you can 'take it back' to last known good configuration (or uninstall recently installed programs). If you think it's something trying to access the internet, you could disable your connection in control panel, then you should get an error message from the application trying to access!?! HTH...
  21. can anyone reccomend a decent (and non-extortionate) garage to replace my cambelt?? I live in Chester in the North West, but can travel a reasonable distance. I've been quoted £250 + parts 'cash-in-hand' by a nearby garage which deals with performance cars (and has zed experience) but i'm not to sure... Rich
  22. i saw a few of your earlier posts, and wasn't it mega bucks?!?! are you stil goin to the chester meet in a couple of weeks?? Rich
  23. Assuming, for some reason, I wanted to remove my HICAS. (To keep this simple, we'll keep it hypothetical)... how would I do it?? Courtesy have discontinued their kit, and I assume elsewhere it'll cost a fortune!! Has anyone got pic of the rear axle on an N/A? (My friend works at a fabrication place and i might be cheeky!) Sorry, hypothetically i might be ;) Rich
  24. sure i've heard bad things about Slick 50... but apparently Redline MT90's really good
  25. Sounds like it could be a problem with the HICAS - mine makes strange noises when i switch lanes. Someone else gave me this link on how to run diagnostic (although i've not actually done it yet!!) HTH Rich
