Interesting Read
Below 20 mph and above 75 mph, the system is inactive, but between 20 and 75 mph, it moves the rear wheels up to 1 degree, depending on vehicle speed, steering wheel angle, and the speed the steering wheel is turned. Turn the wheel quickly, and you get more of a response i wasn't aware HICAS is inactive over 75... thought it came into it's own above a ton?!?!

shocking news
if anyone's actually read the DVLA site it's talking about radically altered vehicles (which it defines) - at the moment the changes are more to do with unsafe vehicles, and vehicles which should be SVA's and/ or Q- plated, AND NO MORE. it's true that the UK may follow suit, but not under the proposals eveyone's quoting. You gotta remember, it'd be a shit story in MaxTwats if they didn't elaborate a little to make a story!

First time buyers' mortgage......
you could have a look at new developments - they're now required to offer a percentage of 'affordable housing', which usually means a housing association will own 25%... worth a look - there's some good deals to be had where i live (chester) which is horrendous for house prices! As for a mortgage, i got mine through a broker at an estate agents (for free) see a few and get an idea of who's offering you a good deal. The reason it's free is the finding broker receives a flat fee from the lender (which is shown to you in black and white before you proceed) so it's not a con. Nothing to lose by seeing a few local to you. Rich

What is a decent Powerwasher
My old man's got a karcher (which they sell in halfraud's) - good for wheels/ arches, and good for stripping any loose trim (like the coating on the windsreen strips :headvswal :headvswal ) or lifting any less-than-perfect paint!! I'd say buy a cheapo one to do your wheels and arches, and other tough/ out of areas and stick to a sponge and bucket for the rest... or be VERY careful and don't get too close!

Hit and run sun morning
gutted for you mate. you could try going to an online insurance quote website and 'guesstimate' the reg from the info you have until you find a match (or several) - then the DVLA are obliged to release the owner's details if you have good reason to enquire (which you have) - there is a small charge. It just means you could check that you've got the right guy, as chances are his car will be 'gone' by the time the police pull their fingers out! rich

insurance on a 4x4 :headvswal
but the direct debit guarantee has nothing to do with the contract! probably find you'll lose that year's no claims addition, and possibly only get a credit for the remaining policy term! it'll cost you £12 a day for european cover on your dad's car on dayinsure rich

insurance on a 4x4 :headvswal
I'm with endsleigh and they have no problem with me not owning the car (and they originally quoted for it not being registered in my name - which was originally going to be the case). and before you say my insurance will be invalid i double checked with them before I took out the policy and, unfortunately, it's in the bodyshop after a shunt last weekend so no problems there! Another company i've used to insure other people's cars is http://www.dayinsure.com and they cover europe for 20% extra. For refernce, it cost me £20 a day to insure a CLK so not cheap but ok. The policy's with norwich union so legit. theres no legal reason why you have to be registered keeper of a car - it's just standard policy.
