  1. Cash only, machine not working, printer out of ink all point to an illegal trader, often the internet can show up some interesting info, said garage maybe a LTD company ? and the Companies house beta site is a free and open to the public to see in full, said companies ltd status and accounting is monitored and reported there in full. One such monitoring tool is "strike off applications " the implication of multiple applications from companies house to strike off for non return of accounts would serve as an indication of the companies or individuals ability to not run the business honest and legally. Maybe this is so with the said garage, who knows, take a look https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/ all public knowledge. Jeff
  2. johnyboy Need some advice on an issue a garage has had my car on and off for 2 yrs not run right since I had an engine from garage within a couple of days took back told me had washed bores and turbo smoking ,so had to have rebuild and two turbos recon so a few thousand later got car back and it was over fueling to extent of £20 to do 30 miles To use that much fuel means the injector seals are not seated and leaking passed, usually filling the sump with fuel ! ............ Call straight away to inform them ,so took back again to find chip in ecu had dislodged,(according to mapping specialist) Dislodged chip ! rubbish !! anything wrong there will bring the engine light on as a corrupt chip / map ................. . So did one journey last year to Coventry been back there since late November I think been that long ,so yet again had to have bottom end rebuild Remember those leaking injector seat seals filling the sump with fuel ! .................... Had to pay for parts again got that done another nistune ecu, car went to be mapped one turbo shaft broke, so he put another one on he had there and that went to told me I had pay for another recon turbo so obviously there was an issue if the same one went but just wanted car back so paid Most of this was WARRANTY work and should not of been charged for ?? Then mapping guy wants more money because he did three part mappings Totally expected, may as well take you for more cash whilst they have you........jeez !! ------------- Pièce de résistance .............. white leather oil hand prints all over even thought I gave seat covers ,crack in front bumper ,two of three pod gauges not working ,my stereo amp not working ,arm rest (painted) cracked and lump out of it ,contacted him today to basically two fingers not his problem gauges or amp not working bumper forgot to tell me hit it on trailer Oh my !! words are hardly enough, trouble is Trading Standard have no teeth to really hurt these jokers and the jokers themselves are usually penniless hobo`s working out of their pants so court is a waste of time and money. Feel for your pain but not a lot can be done as it is a "he said" , "she said" "they did this " situation, lesson`s learnt feller but move on, get it down to Jims in Bristol and get it done properly in one hit ! Jeff
  3. I often go to the meeting in Armação de Pêra, in my M6 >>.
  4. Ok a few classic misunderstanding there buddy, dont feel bad very common, firstly unless you have a very low impedance tester that can generate a high spike oputput such as a megga meter you will not read anything off the actual knock sensor as the reading is off the scale. The resister you mention a 1k ohm is the wrong one, what you want is a 1 meg ohm, that is why you are still getting the code 34 reading as the ecu still sees a problem. So back to the running issue, even if you had the correct resister in it would not of corrected any running issue at tickover as it has no bearing on how the engine runs then, its primary purpose is to reduce the chance of damage when knock is detected on load and only in a small rev range whilst on boost, it then reduces the available boost via the boost solenoids and retards the ignition, both of which will reign in the knock and save damage to the engine, when that occurs the car will run fine but in safety mode and reduced power until switched off and on again. Some years back we did a little straw poll of cars coming into the workshop and was amazed to find as high as 70% came in for general service work had the precondition of a failed knock circuit often without the owner even knowing. So what ever running issue you have it will not be the failed knock sensor circuit, you mentioned there seemed some improvement, well as we now know the resister was the wrong one and the code 34 is still present that sort of suggests you either just feel it seemed better or maybe and more likely moving the loom around has improved a connection somewhere, like to an injector or earth tag maybe. So get a 1 meg ohm resister ( see pic below for band colours ) and fit it to the ecu side of the connector, then after restting any codes run the engine and retest, if the code is gone great, if not then likely the cable to the ecu has an issue and will need fitting at the ecu connector. Once this is resolved you can look at the running issue, check timing, afm voltage on ConZult or similar, TPS settings and air leaks, even dirty throttle body butterflies can cause poor running, and don`t forget to check battery connection, these can become high resistance\and cause all sorts of odd issues as well as checking for a good charge from the alternator. One word of caution, removing the knock sensor has to be considered a work around to the problem, but that said, if your engine is set up correctly and using good fuel you will have no issue with it and there are many, many zeds running around in just this manner mine included, and as long as you understand what is happening that is fine. Jeff
  5. Good job indeed, does begs the question why it caught fire, no petrol or sump full of oil ? be a battery fire for sure! so basically not fit for purpose if catches fire on a roll over crash ?? then it was a concept car. Jeff
  7. Mmm... pictures are of left hand drive zeds. Jeff
  8. Yes the rental market is very buoyant and has been for some years, we have had tenants in this one for over 12 years, we refer to it at the house that keeps giving !! Jeff
  9. No, really ? Tiss a bit oh fun that`s all !! Jeff
  10. Spot on Gaz, numerous area`s on the zed had really exacting attention by Nissan in the design stage and "over engineering " is the norm but at the same time they got so many parts wrong like fitting Cedric front wing indicators, spongy spoilers, very badly designed sill returns and wheel arch structures that rusted out, dodgy electrical parts to name just a few, but, it was an eighties car so these kind of things are to be expected but for the time the greatness of the car was unsurpassed. If while all of this was going on they tasked a section of the team to look at tailgate vibration, counter balance weight or a place to hide drugs who the heck knows, the original premise is long gone, but either way the "actual" real life, day to day let`s get serious result is a fat zero ! leave it fitted or take it out and nothing changes, of course if you have weak struts or an over heavy wet spoiler, removing the weight will give a short term advantage which can be helpful. Jeff
  11. What a shame after all of your time and skill put into the car, sadly this though is a common thread with Zeds, what starts off as an exciting passion to create a car what you want, the time, effort and financial pressure along with a slightly unfulfilled dream outcome is too much. Good luck with what ever you decide to do. Jeff
  12. Can concur in my own experience of Brembo big caliper and disc upgrade from a Skyline R33 the pedal was fine, no abs issues either, I also fitted bigger brake upgrades such as AP and K Sport to customers car`s and again no issues. Jeff
  13. Lucky you, we have been in the UK a month doing a refurb on one of our rentals properties, a week left yet and then heading South until we get to the Algarve !! Jeff
  14. Ha ha maybe right! it was late and been at it for 12 hours !!
  15. Ok while doing some totally boring skirting board painting late last night this song came on the radio..... by the end of it I was laughing. Famous song by Billy Joel and heard it many times but not in the same way, listen to it on the link and read the verse I think the guy had a Z and wrote the song about it !! .... enjoy https://youtu.be/zkfkJCyqCBc Jeff
  16. This is terrible news, for them and the customers cars, wish them all the best in getting over this in good time. Jeff
  17. As other`s have said above 10w 40 semi synthetic is the way forward and a new genuine Nissan filter too, the engine was designed around easily available oil at the time and fully synthetic is just too thin, of course some owner`s run it and seems ok, it is a long life specification oil that modern cars use so manufactures can boast their model of car has reduced service intervals. Consider oil and filter changes on your zed as money in the bank, max 5k changes and less if used around town a lot, save that expensive failure and change it regularly, this should be a £60 job (approx ) at a garage or £40 ish if you do it yourself. Jeff
  18. Why not do a feature on all of the above as a collective, some spec comparison between then would be interesting for the feature. Jeff
  19. If the code was current you would have running issues that make the car very unpleasant to drive and cutting out. No. Jeff
  20. So as with any car you have to be CAREFUL ! for every good zed there are 5 crap one`s !! and do NOT believe the seller when they say rust free without checking yourself, even later 98 /99 models have succumbed to the dreaded tin worm, in fact the later ones were actually well less protected from the factory with poorer under seal than earlier cars. your age and usage is a deciding factor in turbo or n/a but in general TT is the way to go, and buy the best one you can find only if you will have money left to put into it, some are coming up 28 years old keep your eyes WIDE open and be prepared to walk away. Jeff
  21. Possibly the fan motor does not work or the codes are old, reset and see if it returns. Symptoms of the normal bad connection on the temp sensor is lumpy tick over and possible hot start issue also cutting out at junctions due to over fueling Jeff
  22. In shock at reading this ! had many a private chat with him in the day over the zed scene both the good and bad aspects, very sad, wish his family the best. Jeff
