  2. So are you saying that a near decade of working EVERY DAY in a workshop on these cars is NOT an authoritative reference ? please expand, I am interested Given that most of my customers from when I started remained customers till I retired then I am confident, and remember when I say customer, I mean the car, because when owners changed the cars still came back for service work etc. Jeff
  3. So let me look at this from a practical point of view, for 18 years or so I did boost and air leak checks on maybe 2000 zeds could even be more, I used a correctly manufactured alloy housing with the garage air line system that was regulated to 110 psi via a 250 litre tank, the air volume and cfm of professional air tools require both high volume and a sustainable reserve of air. do you really think I was using 5psi to find boost leaks, can tell you I was not, but what I can tell you was when even a moderate leak was evident on the car then the top of that 250 litre tank soon triggered the motor to kick in soon enough. The problem with using 5 psi is loose turbo or inter cooler cuffs can seal at that sort of pressure but blow at 10 psi, you would miss most leak that way, a fully sealed system is obvious from the first squeeze on the air line trigger, the leaking one`s will need way more volume to fill the leak first and then pressure the system, exactly what happens to the turbo`s when there is a leak and why you get lag and low performance. I understand the difference between inlet tract and the rest, but its a case of what works and what does not, can tell you I always found the boost leaks and never damaged any that did not have leaks. Jeff
  4. The current amount of available information at your finger tips these days about potential purchase cars must drive some garages / traders nuts, so much so that its the norm to see plates blanked out in pictures of a the selling garage temp fit they garage name over to hide the registration plate. However sometimes they miss it on a photo or show service history paper work a little too close and the reg can be seen, and is often a reason behind it, I am talking general, all cars, but as an example this 300zx here > https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1992-J-NISSAN-300-ZX-3-0-TARGA-TURBO-2D-280-BHP/173321776318?hash=item285ac86cbe:g:49AAAOSwc~NbOYVz been on Ebay a while now, over priced for sure and has some interesting lines in the description such as : UNMOLESTED EXAMPLE - RUST FREE - ALWAYS GARAGED - 12 MONTHS MOT and DRIVES and PERFORMS SUPERB The Mot check reveals these fails less than 8 months ago ! Fail Mileage: 47,403 miles Refusal Notices Offside front body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings inner sill area (6.1.b.2) Nearside front brake binding (3.7.b.1) Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle excessive (7.3.d.3) Rear brakes imbalanced across an axle axle 2 (3.7.b.5b) Advisory Notices Nearside front upper suspension arm has slight play in a pin/bush (2.4.g.2) Four year gap in the mot`s so off the road I guess and still it failed !! Three years of nearly the same advisory notes since 2013 !! Advisory Notices Front brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (3.5.1i) Rear brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (3.5.1i) Nearside front tyre worn close to the legal limit (4.1.e.1) Offside front tyre worn close to the legal limit (4.1.e.1) Nearside front upper suspension arm has slight play in all bushers (right on the limit) Damage to windscreen outside swept area So what is the upshot of this, the advert calls it unmolested, always garaged, drives superb, this would and does give the impression that the car has been cosseted and wanted for nothing... how wrong you could be. Be careful guys with any car you buy, do not take the selling garage word for anything, do your check, via Ask mid, mot checker and Total car check all valuable information, amazes me how many private sale cars come back as NO INSURANCE and then take you on a test drive !! Jeff
  5. Erm... what seals cannot take more than 5 psi ?? never ever, ever had that happen and unless you charge it with a full volume at good pressure it is really will be difficult to find any leaks. Jeff
  6. "mechanical overhaul (inc belts) at a renowned Nissan 300ZX specialist. " Well that`s that then! not me or Jim so who? I mean "renowned" ?? Jeff
  7. :pinch: ... Ouch !! Must of missed this bit >> "the forum tech is first class as is the look, the content that is available and the work put in by the admin etc" Jeff
  8. Members : 10,155, Active Members : 500 ( 5th July 2018 ) Question for the admin, does the figures above not phase you at all? I have taken an hour long look around the members list and it is "shocking" the shear amount of members listed who have not even been on line here for upwards of 10 years, yes 10 years is almost grotesk, why are these still even in the data base ? what is the point? it just uses space and looks desperate. The forum has and will continue to decline as the numbers of cars / owners decline that is an obvious and uncontrollable future of course, but is it not time to take stock of the real forum membership we have and stop this silly "we have 10k members" announcement and tighten it up, reinvent it somehow, nothing worse than been a dinosaur in 2018 seen way too many of them the last few years, I mean we do not want to be another Woolworths eh? !! Personally I think the forum looks flabby, with too many area`s of which some are both unvisited and pointless, the latest attempt to keep traders by asking for donations for the fees was ill conceived and bordering again on desperate. I am sure some here will think I am been harsh or not forum spirited, but just look around, the forum tech is first class as is the look, the content that is available and the work put in by the admin etc. but... really ... lets loose the flab get the power back into the place...!! Members unite !!! Jeff

  12. Smithy was a great trader, sad he left the fore to be honest, his knowledge and business ethics were tops, still have the odd word on face book but long gone are the days of his 300zx involvement, his shiny under bonnet parts were copied by a some thieves after he did all of the ground work... Jeff

  14. Ok I should of been more clear on the fuel damper, if there is fuel smell in the vacuum line that us exactly the issue that can cause flooding as it gets worse, so you have cured that by changing it. The 02 sensors are a royal pain, as far as changing them out, we found in the workshop the easiest way was to take a long chisel or prybar and basically break the porcelin top off with the cable, this leaves you able to use a socket directly on it with some wobble bars. But even with slow turning and lots of WD40 the threads can just pull out of the boss on the elbow, not a major problem as the you can remove and replace, see pic below. The rear abs sensors come in pairs only as they use a common loom / connector, they can be difficult to change as they seize in and the access is difficult, did a small tech thread about this some time back see below. https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?171999-Rear-ABS-sensor-tech&highlight=rear+abs Good luck
  15. Oh memories, had Wolfrace alloys on a Capri in late seventies !! They start like this>> and a few months later look like this >> ( sh*t ! )
  16. Your post that is bouncing around the forum "Rear screen refitted today as it had strangely lifted " lol
  17. That will be the rust doing that ! did they not tell you ?.. lol :biggrin::biggrin:
  18. Balancer bar smelling of petrol is a classic for the fuel damper diaphragm to be leaking fuel into the balancer bar, pull off the small rubber pipe and see if it is wet or smells of fuel...if it does change it, it will only get worse and causes hot start flooding issue. Jeff
  19. To be honest the non coated high polished alloys look fab, but maintaining the look......... nah, way better things to be doing, and that comes from someone who enjoys cleaning and polishing but that just makes work, and remember every time you get brake dust on them your getting that bit closure to a full clean and polish at the wheel place. DON`T DO IT !! Jeff
  20. Remember LPG, it was sold as the future of green travel in its time, lots of incentives at the time to buy a new LPG car or even a to have an old one converted. Lpg I remember was 35 pence a litre when petrol was double that and more as LPG was given a special low tax rating. Then a small unknown regulation in the small print meant after six years LPG taxation limit ran out so hey up it went and killed the advantage off completely, sneaky buggers, then the same with diesel, get everyone to swap over on the promise of cheaper fuel, and then when everyone on board bam ! hit it with more tax, of course now the decades of diesel technology and investment is seen as dirty now.... So lets see, we all go electric and what is going to happen? we all know, it will cost us more, lots more, we do not have spare capacity within the UK national grid at this time to recharge a nations electric cars every night which means either buying power from Europe, !! oh hang on we have fell out with them ( Brexit ) so will they do us a good price....no way will they!! So we need to build more powers stations !! yeh and in doing so wipe out all of the environment savings of electric car`s in one swipe. Oh and did I mention the tax, oh yeh, they will tax the ass out of electric cars, think they will not, historically the motorist gets shafted every single time, why will it be any different with milk floats?? Jeff
  21. The shocks on non turbo are the same as Jap spec twin turbo, the original shocks on UK zeds are different as they are electrically adjustable from inside the cabin, however they are so expensive many UK cars now have jap spec shocks fitted and are just fine. Jeff
  22. Interesting question, so come on guys, if you did not have or ever had a zed and today was looking to buy one, would you pay £20K? Jeff
