  1. Could not agree more, brilliant idea. Again agree mates MOT is not fair Whilst agreeing with most of what you say, per the small amount of checks done during an MOT, if you feel blanking the reg in adverts means nothing then, why do it ? confused Jeff
  2. Gaz, with the clocks out, it really is a 5 minute job to adjust them to the correct mileage, in fact we used to do it when converting from kph to mpg along with a certificate. Jeff
  3. whoops !!
  4. Stephen said it with what is the end goal, expectation and achievability of that is not always clear. One thing I will say from the off is, all after market suspension will by design not last as long as standard, many rose jointed arms will not have adequate dust and water seals on the ball sections, the actual construction metal whilst light weight will be more susceptible to damage via the zillion pot holes on UK roads and many more things such as cost and quality become an issue with after market parts. The use of standard new shocks on slightly lowered progressive springs that firm up in the corners but give a comfortable ride when cruising along are in my opinion just perfect for the z. Add in some new genuine anti roll bushes drop links front and rear, do not what ever anyone says fit nylon bushes to the subframe unless you have a dentist on speed dial, along with a hearing specialist too. On my own zed, I started at the rear and over an 18 month period, I worked forward replacing all the moving and complaint parts that I could with new stock items, the only non genuine been a set of chassis dynamic springs. what I ended up with was a factory tight drive with good comfort and a nice stance, added in set of 18" shiny wheels and over 13 years later the car was still a joy to drive. Now here is the thing, in that time I did around 20k miles so not exactly a perfect test of my approach as a long term mileage test, but I would hazzard a guess that very few zeds are daily drivers in the UK and if so, still not massive mileage. It is knowing what you want, what you can live with and in a time frame that suits you, along with budget too, it is actually likely I paid out more for genuine Nissan parts than after market stuff, so was not a cost thing for me, just choice. 5. Not a biggy, but the belt writing been the wrong way around makes me cringe, when the mech fitted it he clearly was not bothered about it, of course I get that it makes not difference operation wise but still it`s kind of there just looking wrong .....argh I will shut up ! Jeff PS Forgot to mention, most alloy pulley tdc timing mark is not accurate, and many do not even have any markings, another bug bear of mine when they came in the workshop for a cambelt.
  6. Another reason to never, ever, ever trust or consider an MOT of a car`s condition, the time limited inspection done by a tester on the day can easily see corrosion and other issues over looked and also given that way too many selling garages have "buddies" who do Mot`s other than a legal document to show the police they really are not worth the paper they are printed on as a condition report. I have hundreds of photo`s of zed`s that came through our workshops from new customers and owner`s with a fresh MOT from the garage next to the selling dealer and it`s shocking how many had overlooked corrosion and worn items , but on the flip side I have also seen many a car with impeccable Mot history and never had any advisories get a fail on stupid items like a number plate light or a wiper blade past its best..... usually from some trumped up Halford`s type of outlet instead of speaking to the owner before failing it, and so spoil / mar a 20 year Mot history of the car ....arghhh !! Jeff
  7. Just to add to the driver aspect, we had a long term customer with a UK spec tt auto, fitted with one our chips and running 13 psi he ended up winning his class every year, even taking on Skylines, this was with no weight saving or spare wheel removed etc., just turn up and race and then drive home. Later he did run semi slick rear tyres as he was chasing tenths of seconds, most of his runs had amazing reaction times with low off the line times that made his car a class leader, he used to say how on more than once he took on and beat guys in Skylines and such who has spent thousands and he beat them with a stock car. After some three years of this his auto box was showing some odd behaviour and it came in to the workshop, we remove the sump and cleaned the strainer refilling with fresh fluid and it carried on for another three seasons at least, just shows those auto boxes are not that bad. 9. I agree the UK needed a lift, and sports such the cycling and the Olympics have proven to be very effective but football fans just grate on my nerves.... lol
  10. This reward when failed another indictment of what is wrong in today`s world, thing, schools reward kids now for failing tests ??? only in sport is failure recognised as a doing well ??, doing us proud?? back in the real world, how about the mechanic who changes your cam belt but get`s it wrong and fails at the object of the job in hand, would you say well done, you did me proud, now about a new engine....no of course not. Jeff
  11. I hear that so often when a team looses, if a team win`s they are hero`s, If they loose, they are still hero`s, and right there is the problem. They lost against an apparent inferior eastern European team, in fact the stats after the match showed the shots at goal and which end of the pitch the most game play was, and England did not come out well in either, that said I did not watch it, instead I painted some wood and watched it dry and it was fascinating. Jeff Jeff
  12. If you mean revving over 4k when stationary then with no engine load the actuators stay open so no boost, if however you mean when driving you have a big problem, either a massive leak or more likely a seized turbo, all depends on how you mean you were revving it. Jeff - - - Updated - - - Top advise !
  13. ooh a nice Jensen Interceptor maybe !! lol Jeff
  14. Be prepared to save yourself grief, call Jimmer at PowerZed its 2 h 47 min (166.4 mi) via M25 and M4 do not take it a local garage, will end in tears.
  15. Offered to buy the car back? that was not quite how it played out on here in the begining ...what ever the owner of that car will find it either unsellable in the future of a fraction of what it should be worth. Would you buy a used Z of him now? let alone the car`s themselves the skill set of the garage he has been using for work is in question Jeff
  16. Mmm.... I do think the forum has some level to answer to on this, after all there was a major problem a while back and was for the most part over looked, these things can come back and bite you in the bum, looks like this is the case here  Approved trader with paid fees, that is a contract right there boys.. Remember this >>>>>>> Did and still do find the response level here to the chassis vin removal ( not the plate ) was woeful at the time, and later quietened down....:glare:
  17. Here is the answer >> Jeff
  18. I think he thought that is exactly what he had done ... - - - Updated - - -
  19. Ok agree smoke test can be very useful looking for small low level leaks rather than by listening out for them, but a below 5 psi sealed cuff regardless of smoke or not is still sealed.... until its not... on the road. Jeff
  20. No reply Andrew G ?... waiting buddy Mmm ... I guess so, maybe? see remember all of this was new 20 + years ago and whilst been around these parts for a big part of that the tech and tricks if you like behind it all is really quite well known now and published all over the net, kind makes me think anyone who would contemplate 60psi really is a numptie rather than a newbie, but still I would argue that the 5 psi leak test will fail to find possible issues that seal below that, but leak above it, as I said before, a cuff left loose is still a good enough fit to hold 5 psi, get that car down the road and boost up and build then boom lost down the leak, boost up and lost again, boost now regulated by leak rather than the turbo actuator. So how about we say a max of 15psi but this is not what I was really saying, its recoverable volume that is needed ie via an air tank with consistent pressure. I do not post tech stuff here that I am not 100% sure of and experienced about over a substantial period I was in business, that remember only stopped as I retired to the sun.
  21. Exactly !! nice one
