Help! Auto Transmission Fluid Change. No Plug
A new gasket is a good idea, find a local autobox specialist should be around £5 from them or £ from Nissan!! Don1t be under that pan when you take it iff as it will absolutely cover you in fluid, take off the lower outlet pipe to the cooler on the drivers side and it will allow some control albeit its a little high up the box to empty it all. Remove all but a couple of the 10mm bolts holding the sump and then break the seal with a tap and have a large tray in place and plenty of paper, even when it seems all drained the sump holds an extra litre or so watch for that, the strainer will then be visable to undo and take away to clean out. Remove the cooler pipes and drain those, if an air line is avaiable that can make it easier to blow out the old fluid. Refitted it will take no time to fill the box up provisionally with 4 litres of fluid down the dipstick tube, run the engine and run through all of the drive gears with your foot on the brake, then back into park, check for leaks and then check the level, add as required. **Beware** BT Business spam email
For anyone with a BT business phone package a heads up on a spam mail we got today advising us of improvements to the service and usual click thorugh links to guide you through it. The email to be fair was very realistic with all of the banners and correct companies house number at the bottom etc. the give away is they don`t know your name of course, which if they were BT they would. Quick trace revealed some bouncing around with an unlikely Austrailan source! any techies care to enlighten the less pc literate what any of the following means other than them trying to cover there tracks. Clutch advice
RPS clutches have been around for ever it seems and have a good rep in the main, from our prospective we see them as a mild clutch as the cover is completely stock Nissan unit painted black and the plate design often means the clutch pedal sweep is insufficient and unless the switches at the top of the pedal are undone and moved back to allow more pedal movement the bite point can be very close to the floor. Moving the pedal sweep works mechanically fine but can make the clutch pedal rest point higher than the brake pedal which is a niggle I know but suggests there is a slight miss match, maybe a longer slave cylinder actuating rod would help. Clutch advice
Ok the paddle numbers is important as it denotes what the clutch is going to do for the drivability and the performance, easy way to explain is the more paddles the smoother the drive take up is, the less paddles the higher the clamping force is. So with this in mind understanding what the owner of the zed wants exactly is paramount, incedently neither will be overly heavy but a 4 paddle would be extream for road use and is the reserve of track day cars really, would not be nice in traffic etc. The 6 paddle unit is entirely different with a nice smooth almost stock feel but with much higher clamping force and higher temperature material its ideal for upgrades, we do sell a good proportion of 5 paddle one`s though as its half way, between the two for this reason we fit these as a standard part of our manual conversions. Hope that helps Jeff TT

Tension rod / lower arm repair
The problem of lower arm metal fatigue where the tension rod arm bolts through the lower arm was identified some years ago by our very own Mac1 and the subsequent issue with solid poly-bushes. The manufactures of the tension bushes went through a series of modifications to resolve the issue and finally arrived with a more compliant poly bush ( kind of defeats the object!!) the zeds effected were I guess dealt with and the problem seemed to of got less common. However there is the odd few still displaying the metal fatigue problem and with lower arms retailing at £200+ each its an expensive repair, but no need to go spending near on £400 to sort the problem. Zed in today had the very same problem and some time ago we made up some templates for repair plates so knocked a couple up and the fix is permanent and easy to do at home if required, the repair tightens up the movement caused by the wobbly metal and may even be beneficial for all lower arms...maybe. Nissan`s joke on air con repairs
With an obvious condensor leak the zed in the workshop it looked like a straight forward replacement job, but no this was anything but. The condensor replacement on a zed goes one of two ways, either the alloy threads undo with out issue or they strip out the threads and you stuffed. So with this in mind its a case of slowly, slowly with lots of WD40 in the threads. But once the condensor was removed it was clear there was a second leak as the injected dye had left tell tale signs on the front member ( under the radiator ) this could not be seen with the condensor in place. The pipe is held down to the front member with a plastic clip and its most bizzare that the plastic clip holding down the alloy pipe actually causes the problem. The problem had now become much larger than the original job with this pipe running all the way to the evaporator behind the dash it means a time consuming strip out. Once all stripped out you can finally release the pipe works at the bulk head, now the small case of wiggling it all out! Oh and the strip out including removing one of the steel turbo/ intercooler pipes and to release this the near side tension road shoe plate need removing also!!!!!!! The dye was slightly visable from the front when we removed the condensor but with the additional pipework removed it was very clear to see. And here is the offending pipe, you can see the split that was facing down under the clip when in place completely hiding the leak Refitting the new pipe is a mare as it is a shaped pipe that is entwinned with the larger pipe too and clearly is fitted before the engine at the factory, but perseverance is the key and of course care as it is only a light alloy pipe..... now off to get it gassed up ... fingers crossed. Wikipedia meaning of the word Semester A 'semester' (from the Latin meaning "six-monthly") has come to mean either of two academic terms, generally excluding the summer or January terms, if any, and so is about 16 to 18 weeks long. The word 'semester' is sometimes used as a synonym for a 'term', as in a 'summer semester'. It would appear that the word "semester" is not of American origin after all, it was highjacked, Americanised and then sent back .... but been a teacher you would know that ............... only messing matey.
