Revs misbehaving
Was going to suggest the same thing. Also the throttle bodies get a build up of greasy gunk after time. Disconnect the battery (so that the ECU can re-set itself whilst you are cleaning them). Then remove the hoses from the turbos to the inlet manifold, put plenty of kitchen roll or old rags beneath the inlets and spray loads of carb cleaner in until it starts to run out clear. Give the insides a bit of a wipe with an old rag or toothbrush, squirt some more carb cleaner in and re-connect the hoses. Some of the gunk will get into the idle control valve, so remove the hose and give that a squirt of carb cleaner too. Re-connect everything (inc battery) and start te car. It will take a while to fire up and will run rough/smokey until all the carb cleaner is burnt off, then go out for a thrashing and all will be better. Richard :)

what to do
My initial thought was to break and buy another with the money - same views as Vini...... ....however upon reading on, particularly as it's rear end damage (not too detrimental to steering - just bodywork, really) I reckon it's worth reparing. Gio's Z was hit in the rear quarter by white van man a couple of years ago. That looked bad but after a visit to a decent bodyshop it emerged better than before. You have a UK spec which is pretty rare now, plus it has a decent engine by all counts. Spend the cash and get it sorted the way you want, perfect opportunity for that wide arch conversion  Good luck mate Richard :)

Some Pictures Of My Car!
Very nice car mate  Richard

Rear Light Setup
I'd question the MOT inspector - I cannot see anything wrong with your set up. Reverse lights are not part of the MOT anyway and you only need 1 rear fog - in the centre or to the right or the car but no less than 100mm from the brake lights. Loads of members have converted their right reverse lamp with no MOT issues. I'm sure PaulC will point out the facts - he's an MOT tester. Richard :)

Left or Right?
I think that 99% of all cars in the UK pull to the left a little - the road cambers have a lot to do with that :wack: Try it at high speed on a motorway - my ZX tracks perfectly straight then, I can remove my hands from the wheel at anywhere between 50 and 100 and it stays put. Richard :)

NZR. Nice Volvo
5.7 litres of V8 power  I do like the VXR version  - "standard" model is nice too but not as quick as a ZX  Not bad as you can buy an 04 plater with 10k miles for under £20k now.... Richard :)

1990
Not really mate. 1989-90 is the year they z32 was launched. As with every car any problems only show up once people start to use them in the real world, not a factory simulation. Consequently on earlier cars these would have been fixed under warranty at the time, then Nissan would have re-developed the components for later cars so the problem would not continue. Plus I believe more 300zxs were sold in 1990 than any other year (someone will correct me if I'm wrong there :p ), therefore in numbers terms (not % of cars sold) it is logical that more 1990 models developed faults. Richard

help the newbie!
My average fuel consumption (UK TT auto, pretty stock) is around 220-230 miles per 60-65 litres. On a long m-way run at 90-100mph I have seen 280 miles from the same volume of fuel. Richard :)

NZR. Nice Volvo
Anyone else reckon the C70 looks similar to the Vauxhall Monaro.... ....or the other way round - I believe the C70 came out first ;)
-
1990
And probably at least 4 slower to 100..... .....plus the TT has so much more torque that in mid-range overtaking speeds it will wallop an N/A Richard

stolen car.. not mine
Yes but only if you are speeding - they don't want to know if some worthless chav scum has nicked or damaged your car

NZR. Nice Volvo
I do like the C70 T5 and that one does look good..... .....apart from the 2-tone paint. All black would look better IMO ;)

No Nissan 300ZX.
Very good point there mate ;) The Supra probably would be crap, it's only the good car it is because the 300zx was so good ToyMota had to go back to the drawing board just to make it better :D Richard

What would you buy?
You may well have done mate - I know it was someone here ;) :D I was chatting the the broker who supplies my company's fleet cars about one a while back. He said they are very good cars and unlike most Italian rubbish, quite reliable. However you're right about costs - an exhaust system is £3k from memory..... Richard
-
No Nissan 300ZX.
The Mk4 Supra TT or Porsche 928GT were on my list when shopping for the 300zx. I'd ruled out the 3000gt after driving one ;) As fantastic a car as the Skyline GTR is, it's saloon-car ugly and does not have a luxury GT car feel like the Soop, Porsche or 300zx. Now I'd look at the Maseratti 3200gt, Porsche 928gts, Merc 500SL (previous shape - say a w reg) or Jag XKR. Richard :D
-
What would you buy?
I have to second this as well as I've always liked the 928 (from s4 onwards) and Portiacraft currently have a silver-blue 1993 GTS 5.4 with 63k miles for under £18k  . Otherwise the 350z but a manual..............but the Maseratti 3200gt is pretty cool and I've been eyeing up nice w reg examples with low miles for around £20k..... Hmmmmm decisions decisions ;) Richard :D

Air Con Removal - Whos missed it?
Just goes to show - we all want different things from our cars. :D If we were all the same the world would be a boring place ;) Richard :smw:
-
Air Con Removal - Whos missed it?
I wouldn't dream of getting rid of it - or buy a ZX (or any other car for that matter) without air con. A 3.0 turbo will drink fuel anyway so a/c is not going to make much of a difference there. The a/c switches itself off in a ZX when you boot it hard, so no difference to performance.... ...OK it weighs a lot but a ZX without a/c also weighs a lot ;) As for overheating, if the cooling system is in good order then it won't but I will, sitting in a car during the summer. The 300zx was designed as a comfortable GT car so having a/c is all part of the package. It stays. Richard :D

Anyone near Maidenhead
I'm only 20 minutes from there...... ....but I'm at work during the week. Otherwise I'd be happy to come along at the weekend. Richard :smw:

celeb big brother
No we didn't ;) If we have never watched it how can we answer the question........
-
celeb big brother
Amen brother  I have no desire to see what a bunch of losers get up to when locked up in a house together for a few weeks. I have never watched any Big Brother at all and simply would not. The only way to rid us of all reality TV is for everyone else to get a life and stop watching it. Richard

driving ban, how long on your licence?
It is only valid for 10 years, but comes off in 11 - like speeding, convictions over 3 years old can be ignored for "totting up" but you can't get rid of them until 4 years have passed. Richard :smw:

Climate Control prob any ideas please
Really???? Mine goes as low as 16 or maybe 12 - can't remember which  I always have it on 20 or 22, although if it's very cold out (and there is a female in the car  ) I may turn it up to 24..... Richard :D

Mobile CCTV unit
Not quite - they know who the registered keeper is and have 14 days to issue the NIP to the registered keeper. The registered keeper must then inform the police who the driver was or lodge their appeal. Providing the NIP is issued to the last registered keeper within 14 days then it can proceed to someone being penalised. Richard :smw:
