  1. Just like Terry Waite  The (then) Archbishop of Canterbury sent Terry out to Beruit when John McCarthy was kidnapped, and what do you know - Terry himself was imprisoned too........ ........Why don't people ever learn from experience??? :wack: Richard :slap:
  2. Halfords mate........ .........and Julia doesn't need it, she is still supple and youthfull (check out the Miss Z contest  ) Richard
  3. Have a word with Mac 1, Si. Do it by PM away from prying eyes and fellow members voicing their opinions, if you want to achieve a result without starting a war. Richard :)
  4. Sorry to hear that Si. Sounds like you've been unlucky. The engines in these cars are normally strong and reliable unless they have not been properly looked after, or messed with by idiots who don't know them well enough. Buying any used performance car is a gamble - especially an import with no history, as you never know what it has been through before arriving here. However yours seemed a good buy at the time - as Gio and I both thought. Have you contacted the dealer who sold the car? He seemed a decent fella so won't he do something about the original engine issue - after all it didn't last a reasonable time? Don't give up - there's always a way of solving Z problems here mate. All the best Richard :)
  5. I'd say so - hence the reason car manufacturers fit specific brands to the cars when new. However I reckon in general you can't go wrong with the premium brands commonly used as OEM fittings. There are exeptions though - I found Continentals & Bridgestones were crap on a Mk3 Supra and Avons fekking crap on my ZX. Any decent brand with the "V" diredtional tread pattern (Goodyear/Dunlop sp9000/Michelin Pilot Sport/Toyo Proxes etc) should be fine on a 300zx. Richard
  6. Sounds unusual - I've only ever known the DVLA to inspect donor cars and cars where the reg number is being removed and put on retention..... ......Then despite what I may tell everyone - I don't really know everything :wack: Richard :)
  7. Ditto - tried Pirellis on lesser cars in my youth and never again :wack: The best tyres ever IMO are Goodyear GSD3 Eagles - not one brown pants moment with those fitted to my zx even in the wet  However they didn't last that long. I needed replacements pretty quick last year so the best choice available (right away) at the time were Dunlop SP Sport 9000. I have to say they are very good - excellent wet performance (V-tread design), decent price (255/40/17 rear and 235/45/17 front) and they haven't gone bald yet....... Tyres are very important - skimp on rubber on any car, let alone a 160mph beast, and you may end up in a ditch/hedge/coffin. Leave the cheapo brands to chavs in their Novas. Richard
  8. Hey Mart...... .....do you have a radar set to detect "GTO" being mentioned here? Any reference to the Mitsi and there you are, how do you do it  Richard
  9. A recent pic of Julia.......
  10. Never had leaky targas myself...... ......but IMO the best solution is prevention - twice a year treat the rubber with silicone oil rejuvinator spray. It keeps the rubber in sufficient order to seal like it did when new. Richard :)
  11. Or maybe you need to try some decent tyres mate. When I fitted Goodyear GSD3 Eagles the handling of my ZX was totally transformed. I never once worried about very wet conditions as the car would happily press on through rain at reasonable speeds without batting an eyelid. Worse though is the slightly damp conditions that leave the road kind of greasy. You are not prepared for it and let's face it even the 4x4 would have a hard time then....... Now go outside and beat yourself for thinking of owning a GTO  Richard
  12. Wise words Angus. Also as Vini posted, we all own very fast cars - cars that were built from the ground up to travel at over 150mph, having the chassis brakes steering and suspension to cope with it. There is a vast difference driving a car like the 300zx at 150mph, compared to driving something like a Mondeo V6 that by chance "happens to be capable of 140mph." How many of us have exceeded 100mph or even taken their ZX to 150? Exactly - we've probably all done it where the conditions allow. I am also happy that at 150mph, my ZX feels safer and more controlable than many lesser cars do at 90mph and how many times do you see chavs in Corsas flying past at 90-100? The fact is that speeding under the right conditions is not dangerous - it's inapropriate speed for the conditions and traffic volume that causes accidents, which goes hand in hand with bad driving. Many people I know regularly drive in urban areas, past schools at 40mph then complain when they get caught. Yet these people are horrified when I admit to 100 on a clear, dry empty motorway. Sorry but my 100mph in the right conditions is far safer than their 40mph - it's psycological for some tree huggers and they think I should be shot for that magic 100mph  However it is the law I'm afraid and whenever we do exceed the limit in such a way we must face the risk of prosecution. But as we've all done it, then let's just show our support for someone that could have been any one of us. Good luck mate. Richard :)
  13. Thanks for the reponse guys. What a great place this forum is  Richard
  14. Welcome to the club mate. I also used my ZX as an everyday car - back then I was paying £475 fully comp with Bell Direct. However as I wanted to keep my low mileage UK spec ZX as just that, I now have a daily driver and insure the ZX as a classic car. I use Carol Nash, 5k miles p/a (although I can go up to 6k without major issues); agreed value, free breakdown cover for around £260 fully comp. I am also allowed to use the car for occasional commuting unlike some other classic policies. Richard :)
  15. I've not heard good things about EBC for the 300zx, although I have the regular BlackStuff on my rear brakes with no issues. But then the fronts are much more important. Porterfields have a good reputation here and a couple of traders sell them. I have Stillen Metal Matrix front pads - £75 from Mike Feeney at MJP and they are a decent stock upgrade. Don't use Mintex though - they lasted me around 6k miles and left a black mess on my alloys  Richard
  16. Halford sell the JBL ones for around £50 and they are a very good upgrade. Apache's link to Low Cost Car Audio is the best though - excellent price and they deliver quickly too. I have bought a few items from them on the 'net. Richard :)
  17. I have Symantec (Norton) anti-virus 2006 at the mo which has been pretty good so far. Thing is for the last 3 days whilst on the internet I have been getting the message "High risk security alert.............Norton Internet Worm Protection has detected and blocked an intrusion attempt" every 5 minutes. This is fekking annoying as it interrupts my web-browsing. OK it's doing it's job but does it have to tell me every 5 minutes, and why oh why is there a fekking worm trying to intrude my PC anyway. What should I do? Thanks Richard :)
  18. Great minds, eh Si? :p Richard
  19. Anyway a Miss Z comp..... ......I'll talk Julia into that - I reckon she would have a very good chance of winning and I'm not being biased  Richard
  20. You haven't done so already and you have to ask our permission for that???? I reckon you should start by taking her out for dinner...... Richard :slap:
  21. Looks good mate - and has to be done  I have matching personalised plates on all three of our cars now - looks pretty good on the drive, with my initials on them all  Richard :)
  22. I haven't been to Peterborough as I have not attended the show for a couple of years..... ....however I voted for it simply because I think Billing is a shitehole :wack: Sorry guys, just my opinion :slap: Richard
  23. Amen brother  Fully agree with this and Si's original post. It's a victory for common sense. Reading the BBC news article re ".......she was aware of the school's uniform..........3 other schools in the area allowed the Jilbab......."etc etc. Seems to me this bint was only out to make trouble rather than make a stand for what she actually believed in. It's behaviour like hers that actually incites religious and racial intollerance rather than discourages it. Richard
  24. It may well be academic as he was exceeding 100mph but the limit on a dual carriageway is 70 not 60 mate.......... Richard
