  1. Plus a high mileage is nothing to worry about if you buy a sorted car from this site. Bear in mind that a car which has covered 75-85k miles, but is all original, will need expensive replacement parts in the near future. Whereas something like Stella's car, although it's done 140k, would have already had many expensive parts replaced already........... As for reliability, I've had mine over 5 years (covering 33k miles) and it's never missed a beat (although it has just developed a slight gearbox fault - throtle position sensor probably). It's a UK spec TT auto with 91k now. I did use it as a daily driver for the first 2 years but it relegated to a second/weekend car now. Costs - the only thing I will say is these cars have a voracious appetite for fuel and rear tyres! I average 18-20mpg (say 230 miles on just over £60-ish). So if it's your daily driver and you cover a fair few miles it will cost you...........at one point I was driving 250 miles a week :p Richard
  2. Well it is a poxy government agency! Good luck with it mate. Richard :)
  3. Julia and I will be at a hotel in Cornwall. Celebrating with a 5 course meal, followed by drinks/champagne in the bar and fireworks at midnight. All for guests only! Richard
  4. If they have made a mistake then you cannot be expected to pay for it. If the RFL for your car should be on the old engine size scale rather than CO2, it would be £180 maximum. Of course you can appeal - ignore what the dick 'ed on the phone said and write to his bosses! Richard
  5. I guess you're some kind of engineer by profession.........? Richard
  6. Same here  And I shall be off to Cornwall next week....... Richard
  7. Mechanical aptitude test..... http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/quizzes/MechanicalAptitude.php I got 86%....... Richard
  8. Enter your post code for ammusing place names near you...... http://places.jump-around.com/closest/
  9. I recently had my near side HICAS steering joint replaced. I bought the part from MJP - I think it was around £36 and my local garage (not a Z specialist) charged me £96 to fit it - I guess that's 2 hours labour...... Richard :)
  10. I agree too. The NSX is a fine car - and looks much better without the "graffix" and the ironing board nailed to the back (just like a 300zx - leave it alone!!!). I would have one, but £20-30k on a 10 year old plus car? No! I'd buy a 2 year old Merc SLK350 as a daily driver and keep my ZX :) As for the most beautiful car ever.............. .......Aston DB9  Richard
  11. Good in principal but isn't the government already doing this in addition to road tax :slap:  Richard ;)
  12. Quite normal in the motor industry. Manufacturers announce "next year's" model towards the end of the previous year; launch it at a show somewhere and then put it on sale just before the start of the new year. It's a great sales pitch - ".........buy next year's model now, before anyone else.....!!" Richard
  13. That's right. My 300zx is £180 My SLK230 (2000 car) is still £180 My Rav-4 2.0 NRG (2002 car) is £205 Richard
  14. Whilst road tax according to emmissions relates to cars registered after 2001 if you have an imported car it should depend on the date of manufacture. The road tax should be based on the actual registration letter, not the date of UK registration. Get on to DVLA and complain. Richard
  15. B@stards........ I totally agree with Dave though - we need a deterrant like that to stop some of these pikeys Richard
  16. Yup, sure is looking good...... .........glad you got it fixed mate. Richard
  17. Ah yes, some had that funny little "dash" in the middle of the Z....... :slap: I've not looked at them all together so I'll take your word mate ;) Still, they all have "Z" badges on them - even the UK spec had one on the steering wheel! Richard :D
  18. A sports car is designed with the intention of only travelling fast; nimble and light with only a secondary regard for comfort. Examples being the MX5, MR2, Ferrari F355 etc. A GT car is a coupe designed for transporting 2 people and their luggage across continents quickly but in comfort too. Examples being the 300zx, Aston DB9, Jag XK8, Ferrari 456gt etc. It's true that the 300zx is no sports car but that does not exclude it from being a Z car. Nissan originally made the 240Z as a sports car to rival the E-type but at a price not too different from the MGB. The 280zx, 300zx (Z31 and Z32) were still Z-cars but by the time of their inception, the market had changed from that of the late 1960s. Market forces determined that people spending X amounts of ££s (or rather US $$s ;) ) would favour a fast but comfortable GT car rather than an out and out sports car. There's nothing that says only the sports cars were Z-cars. Poll the Z-club; I bet I know which way it will go......... ;) Richard :D
  19. ........I have to ask, why the "Z" badging then? All Z/ZX cars carried the same "Z" badge until the 350Z, where the "Z" character was updated a little ;) Richard :D
  20. I know the feeling..... ....we're going to my mum's tomorrow and she always does turkey  - she won't cook a goose although she is doing a beef joint as well. Maybe I'll do Christmas dinner next year...... ;) Richard
  21. .......down at the Blue Oyster Club....... ;)
  22. Any decent motor factors will have one. I got mine from Cafco Automotive for about £40. Richard
  23. RX7 is indeed lighter and a sports car compared to the ZX, which is more a GT car. But don't forget that stock UK spec for stock UK spec cars, the RX7 was 230bhp compared to 280-ish for the ZX. UK road tests had the 300zx quicker 0-60 and 0-100mph; although the RX7 will no doubt hand a 300zx its arse in the twisties. Before anyone flames my response, I only refer to stock UK spec cars............check out WhatCar and Autocar tests circa 1993 ;) Richard :D
