Hi I was just wondering having only owned a Z how the Z tt compares to an RX7, I guess a few of you guys may have owned both at some stage. The RX7 seems like a great little car from what I can make out and many people seem to have seriously tuned them up.

the problem with the RX7 is you have to rebuild the engine every 60K

That's not bad!!! I have to rebuild my Z engine every 20k :mac1:

RX7 is a lightweight sportscar, it will beat a 300zx all over the place.

We know you cant stand the 300 anymore clarkey, but someone who has had his hand me down z and never driven it, makes me wonder how you come up with all these comparisons  :slap:

Royal has owned or still owns both.

I have to say couldn't keep up with his rex but it we were heading towards lands end on a very bendy road.

His rex is also pushing lots of bhp.

Sure he will be along at some stage to fill in the facts.

RX7 is indeed lighter and a sports car compared to the ZX, which is more a GT car.

But don't forget that stock UK spec for stock UK spec cars, the RX7 was 230bhp compared to 280-ish for the ZX. UK road tests had the 300zx quicker 0-60 and 0-100mph; although the RX7 will no doubt hand a 300zx its arse in the twisties.

Before anyone flames my response, I only refer to stock UK spec cars............check out WhatCar and Autocar tests circa 1993 ;)

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I like the RX7 for what it is, but Christ, it sounds awful, especially with a huge exhaust. Absolutely hateful drone!

yeah but when you have 2 ZEDS it does'nt really matter does it :mac1:

The RX7 is small.

It never looks good for a man in his 30s to drive fast in a small car IMHO.

What are you saying mr david?

I'm in my 30's and have an mr2 turbo :p ;)

Well I thought about it and I reckon its still the Z for me. It fits me fine and in my opinion it looks a far better car plus im not a boy racer so the power that comes with a TT will be fine for me. I guess an RX7 would be a really fun car though too but quite different. They seem a bit feminine too, not to my taste really but I have heard good things about them. Thanks for the lowdown.

Yeah, as you know I had first hand experience as a passenger and it was a case of "If your gonna die, go out with a smile on your face!" (Royal is a bloody good driver though so felt safe!) oh and he had nice sticky semi slick tyres!!

Royal's is a lot different to a standard Rex though, as another friend has recently got a bog standard one and although it picks up pretty well, A standard 300ZXtt has more torque and is probably a lot safer to be in if an accident was about to happen!

an FC is hardly competition. And greg do you have some denial issues or WHAT!?

Mwahaa no, bust one and drive the other :D

the sound of the rex is enough to put me off, no offence to any owners but its like having a smart bird with an annoying laugh

wonder what they think on the rx7 owners club site of the same question pmsl :)

ask ask ask!!!! I want to know!
