  1. That is just so true........ ......now please send a copy of that to Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling; since the pair of them simply do not get it!!!! Richard:no:
  2. For some reason the figure of 60k miles is coming to me re the auto box fluid change........ ........I'm not sure about time though - I guess someone like Jeff will answer your question for definite soon.... Richard:cool3:
  3. Owing to the bad weather this morning I drove 12 miles in the opposite direction to pick up my friend from work, since she would prefer not to drive in the snow and ice. Now on the way back towards work, we entered a dual carriageway. Overnight about 2 inches more snow had fallen; whilst the left lane was fairly clear of snow, the right lane was unused and still had said snow fall covering it. We were in the Rav-4 and there was a long line of cars in the left lane, all crawling along at 20-30mph (despite that carriageway being pretty clear). So I thought I'd give lane 2 a go and, with 4wd grip, I found it perfectly safe to drive at 40-50mph past the slow moving cars. I did proceed with caution, trying out steering/brakes/acceleration etc etc and all was well....... So we were happily passing all the slow moving traffic; when about 3 cars in front I saw a VW beetle in the left lane - the driver had his arm out of the window making a certain hand gesture towards me.......:xxx: He continued doing it until after I had passed his car. Why??? I had not encountered this car before; I had not cut him up or pulled back into the line of traffic in front of him - so his "action" was competely un-called for! What is it with these small minded prats that makes them behave in such a manner - yes I was passing a line of slow traffic. But hey - it was a dual carriageway; they were all doing 20-30mph (in a 70). Ok there was a little snow in the right lane but it was certainly not causing any problem??? I didn't react and went on my merry way - but I just thought I'd have a little rant now. Sorry!! Richard:wacko:
  4. Hi Ian, On behalf of the moderating team, I am sorry to see you go; but I understand - needs must and all that! Thank you for your contribution to the club - you've been a great help and you will certainly be missed mate. Please don't be a stranger though; and good luck for the future. All the best, Richard:cool2:
  5. Treat the inside of the car with Rain-X Anti Fog (in the black bottle - not the exterior treatment)..... .....it won't cure the problem but it will reduce the build up of mist/condensation on the inside of the 'screen. Which will in turn not be there to freeze overnight! I have to use it weekly on my SLK as the damn windscreen steams up immediately upon start-up in cold weather. Even with the a/c on the ability to clear the screen from cold is probably the worst I've evperienced:no: ZX and Rav are much better - de-mist works right away.....! Richard:cool2:
  6. Certainly not a myth.........:flowers: .....especially when 2 highly respected mechanics on the forum say the same thing.....! Richard:cool2:
  7. Congratulations to you all mate! Richard:cool2:
  8. Never mind mate - I'm still not completely in tune with all these new smileys:helpsmilie::chinese::alucard: Richard
  9. Good tip..... ......but all i do is fill a large saucepan with water from the hot tap (NOT boiling for obvoius reasons:w00t:); pour it over all the windows, start the engine and away! a/c and heated rear window/mirrors on..... No frosted or steamed windows; no leaving the car idling unnecessarily and just drive away in under 1 minute. With no cold hands either...... Not in the Z though - it's safely hidden away in the garage during the snow & ice:lol: Richard:cool2:
  10. Good news mate! Once the snow has gone get out and use it, if you can! Richard:cool2:
  11. My exact thoughts too........ Richard:cool2:
  12. Me neither Jeff..... .....I saw -10 for a brief moment this morning whilst I was out in the sticks near Chequers. However once I got to work it was a nice cosy -5:biggrin: Not quite as cold as yours but for down south that's almost arctic conditions!!! Richard:yes:
  13. Sure is a nice thought Brian....... There aren't too many immobile old folks near me; the one neighbour whom I would be concerned about has her son popping round a couple of times a week just to see if she's OK. Julia did phone her aunt & uncle yesterday though; her uncle had a minor stroke late last year and has been told not to drive. They may have trouble getting about now, but they live 15 miles away; still she told them to call us if they want anything and we'll sort it, since we can still get through the snow as we've the 4x4. Richard:cool3:
  14. Good luck Paul!! And how good does the 99-spec front look on a Marine Blue ZX......... ......Hmmmm getting me thinking now....! Richard:cool2:
  15. You're right there Allan.......... ..........However this seems like a good idea. I voted "yes" as I reckon Phil's idea would work for the very reason he and Dave have mentioned. So why not give COTQ a trial run for a couple of quarters and see what interest it generates? Richard:cool2:
  16. ........but it's freezing cold and snowing....... This is what winter should be like - it was always that way when I was a child. And that was in London, not up north where it snows every winter!! Richard:yinyang:
  17. Well spotted - I never noticed that until you mentioned it! Richard:laugh:
  18. Hi buddy, From your quoted options I would say....... Lotus - too old; don't bother for a daily driver. MG - it's a Rover; obsolete and probably almost as unreliable as the Lotus! Vectra - that model series was widely regarded by many as crap. I've never owned one and never would; but some others on here have; and can give you a more experienced point of view. So that leaves the Lexus and Fiesta. Lexus is ultra reliable and a nice car. That series Fiesta is also good; a girl I work with has a 2006 model. It's her second one and she drives 80 miles a day in it; I've been in it a few times and, for a small car, I have to say it's alright! So what are your requirements? Do you need a bigger or smaller car; do you favour "big car" comfort/style/image over small/functional/economical? As I see it, they are the only decent choices from your suggestions....... Good luck! Richard:thumbup1:
  19. Fine looking car there mate! And I'm pleased that Kirbz's Z went to a good home...... Richard:cool2:
  20. Cheers Phil........ And you'd know that mate! I'm extremely pleased with it; it's a great car and it drives superbly. Faultless in fact.......:cool2: Hi Dan, in Boscastle as usual - we come down 2-3 times a year as we have friends in Camelford. We always stay at the Wellington; nice comfortable hotel and superb award winning food....... Thanks for your (and everyone else's) kind words. And don't worry - I have done all I intend to do to the car; it will stay that way for certain now....... Richard:batman:
  21. Julia and I went to Cornwall over the New Year and, at last, gave the new ZX its first proper outing...... .....So 1000-odd trouble-free miles later (some at a "fairly swift" pace:shaun:), I definitely know I bought a good 300zx:thumbup1: We even woke up to see a dusting of snow one morning; luckily the Z was not bothered by it :thumbup1: The car did get pretty filthy though, owing to the winter roads (which you can see in the pics); however I've cleaned it today and put it back in the garage once again! Richard:biggrin:
  22. Nice one Harry..... .....And of course congratulations/best wishes to your mum and dad as well:thumbup1: Richard:clap:
  23. Many happy returns mate - and good to see you back online!! Richard:cool2:
  24. Welcome to the club mate! Richard:rockon:
  25. Just to remind everyone....... .......as a responsible car club 300zx.co.uk cannot possibly encourage or condone racing on the public highway. So please ensure that any future references to the "event" are only posted if it is to occur (or has occurred) on a proper racetrack or other off-road location. Otherwise the thread will have to be removed! Thanks. Richard
