Wow, for the first time in the 4 years that I've know my husband....
LOL - or a beer b@st@rd....... .....Seriously though Jane, do you not think it's your endless buying of cars (oooh shall I buy this Honda, that Mazda of some other Lexus) that has finally driven him to drink!! Richard:sorcerer:

I god its happened again.
Nice one mate; I know what you mean! Mine is just a weekend toy, but after a week in Cornwall covering 1000 miles in the ZX over New Year, I do really need to drive it more......... .....You know what you have to do Gary - keep it taxed all year round and then you can take it out for a little blast whenever the mood (and weather) takes you!! overdrive??
For the same reason you might want to put the selector in "1" or "2" - all you are doing is limiting the highest gear you want the car to shift into. For example, if you want to increase engine braking on a long down-hill stretch; or if you want to maintain engine response driving around a twisty up-hill road (like the Hardknott Pass in the Lake District - LOL). In a manual you would most likely not shift higher than 2nd or 3rd - so switching off the o/d or selecting "2" will keep your auto in said lower gears Mark and Noz have explained what the OD is - and back in the olden days such cars like the MG (and my old 1961 Rover 100) only had 4 gears. 5th gear on a manual was something of a luxury on all but the high performance cars until well into the 1980s!! So adding the overdrive gave the effect of a higher gear for cruising; reducing engine effort, noise and improving economy. Whilst it was a manual, my old Rover had a kickdown switch under the accelerator, to turn off the OD momentarily when acceleration was required....... if you could call it acceleration in poor old "Auntie!" caliper paint
Folia Tec makes paint specifically for brake calipers - I'm sure you can source it over the interweb....... .....or of you fancy spending more than you need to, buy it from Demon Tweeks!! Richard:cool3:

Any thoughts?
I remember, back in my childhood in East London, a local fella driving an old 1960s black hearse with a big illuminated banana in the back - where the coffins would once have sat!! Richard:winkiss:

Quite cool actually
LOL - I'm going to ask Jaikai to set up a "Jane's new car dilema" section as a permanent fixture on the forum.......:whistling: Actually I used to like those back in the 1980s and preferred them to the subsequent Preludes if I'm honest - the next generation was a bit odd looking IMO, although the later shape kind of paid homage to the one you refer to! New Breakers Yard section
It always has been mate - because we have our legitimate traders; along with those in the unfortuante situation of having to break their pride and joy following an accident, MOT fail etc etc. And then you get the obvious "back door" traders - normal members who purport to be breaking a car, only to go on and break another in a month or two. Then another and so on.... ......So Groover has thought long and hard about this and he came up with the solution posted above; which the committee believes is the fairest deal for everybody! Tax Warning
Me neither - it will cost far too much to administer and every employee would be at the mercy of trusting the tax office to get their wages right. It'd never work!! Not to mention all the many payroll bureaux businesses throughout the country suddenly being put out of business. The only change I am aware of is the real-time reporting issue Andrew posted a link to - but that's no big deal as most computerised payroll packages will be updated for the new rules. Richard:cool3:

Happy Birthday Osty1
Many happy returns mate! Richard:cool3:

Can I have this one? Pretty pleeeeease!
I'm with Allan on that Jane - the RX8 is ugly...... And those daft suicide doors are soooo 1959 - although quite acceptable on a Rolls Phantom, they really do not suit a so-called sports coupe!! As Sir Charles says, they are unloved among the trade; and no doubt for good reason!! Richard:chef:

Just laud off..... Great start to the New year.............
I'm sorry to hear your bad news mate and I hope 2013 picks up for very soon. On another note though, there are statutory procedures that companies must follow when making redundancies - especially for those doing it en-masse - so your former emplyers could be on shaky ground if they have not complied with their legal obligations. S.E.Z.K meet 6th January 2013
LOL - sadly Steve, I viewed the thread 2 days after the event mate!! Never mind, it's still early in the year and I'm sure interest will rise as the weeks roll by. Happy New Year and all that..... Richard:oops:

Looking for a second car
Yeah - it was funny at the time too mate!! We were flying down the M40 past BMs and Jags etc; their drivers looking at us in sheer disbelief that a poxy 1.0 Micra was steaming past...... .......of course, they could have just dabbed their accelerators and put a stop to it, but I guess the laughter and shock prevented that!! If I had needed to stop in a hurry though it might not have been so funny.......

Can I have this one? Pretty pleeeeease!
Nothing wrong wirh "girly" two seaters Jane - if they have the pulling power and cubic capacity to back it up that is (but I have to say that, don't I - LOL)....:innocent: ....but seriously though, why not try an MX5 - or perhaps find yourself another tidy MR2 as they can be bought for very little nowadays!
