  1. Great pics Allan - and I love the B&W..... ....very artistic matey!! Richard:thumbup1:
  2. I believe that is correct mate..... Personally I'd stick to well known makes like Brembo (they're not expensive), Ferrodo etc for the fronts. Brembo does a good OEM replacement.... Rears are not so crucial - especially how you say you drive!! Richard:thumbup1:
  3. Great news Lexx!!! Bartflaster's car was always a lovely looking example (nice colour too......:whistling:); so I am pelased it has gone to a good home!! Richard:thumbup1:
  4. Hi mate - and welcome back!! Most of us are still here..... And waiting for you to set up your own bodywork place!!! Glad you are well though, Richard:thumbup1:
  5. Welcome Tommo - and good luck in your search for a 300zx mate!! And yes; always wise/essential to leave the engine running to preserve the turbos after a good blast.... Richard:thumbup1:
  6. Nice one Adam - and thank you for your support mate!! Enjoy the club.... Richard:clap:
  7. Have a great evening Yvonne!! Richard:thumbup1:
  8. LOL.... .....But yes, everyone remembers it as Steve's car for those very reasons. Plus he was club secretary back in the day; not to mention it was Steve who had most (if not all) of the work done in transforming that car into what it is today. For a long time it was one of the all time favourite Zs on the whole forum - and those votes were cast during Steve's ownership!! Richard:wink:
  9. Indeed - and it seems fitting a decent engine is the best way of making a 350z go faster...
  10. My opinion.... ...Forget mileage mate. Unless the car has genuine, continuous, service history to prove it; assume it's been clocked. Also even if mileage is genuine, don't rule out high milers as they will most likely have had most of the expensive major replacements done already. Whereas lower mileage cars are fast approaching the time for such work....!! Buy on over all condition; sound bodywork (a ZX will be 13-23 years old now), no rust, tidy paint. Then move on to the engine/turbos/gear box. Richard:thumbup1:
  11. Nice work Dave - thanks for your support mate!! Richard:thumbup1:
  12. Nice work Allan - it is indeed a shame what some folks with throw away!! Richard:thumbup1:
  13. .....I have read that Top Gear series 20 is coming to BBC2 on Sunday June 30th...!! Still no news on this year's live UK tour from what I can gather though....:shifty: Richard:wink:
  14. Looks good value mate - and judging by Ian's and Graham's comments, it's worth buying!! All that's missing for me is DAB...
  15. Definitely R12 gas then - so you'll need the drop-in substitute. Or someone with access to the old R12.... ....I can't remember if the revs still drop when it's out of gas; although I think perhaps it might. So why not check the relay first? Otherwise, it could be that the a/c pipework was disturbed during the engine removal and it has taken the last 2 weeks for the gas to seep out through a small leak.
  16. Have a great holiday Anthony!! Richard:thumbup1:
  17. Good point Bri..... .....If the engine has been out then surely you'd need an a/c regas as the pipes to the compressor would have been disconnected.... Wouldn't they..?
  18. Don't think so mate; since most modern cars use R134........ .....Yup; most 300zxs will still have R12 gas; which is now illegal to sell. However whilst you can do a coversion to R134, there is also an R12 drop-in substitute. Jeff's man does this and I'm sure that many a mobile car a/c specialist will also recharge your system with the permitted new substitute..... Yup - and with the engine running and a/c switched on, you should see liquid/gas movement in the little glass viewing hole. If you see nothing, then chances are you have no a/c gas left in the system. You might be lucky and just need a re-gas; as over time the gas will seep out. But you could also have a leak in the system; maybe a hole in the condenser (little a/c rad), or in the pipework; or maybe your compressor has given up the ghost. It might be worth getting a mobile specialist round to take a look first; they would probably only charge you a small call-out fee if they cannot recharge the system due to a leak. But at least they will tell you what needs doing, so you can source the parts (and/or get them fitted) first! Forget Quack Fart; they will only supply/recharge the new R134 gas on more modern cars. But is you have a late spec ZX, you might be lucky and it will be running R134. There should be a sticker in the engine bay to advise..... Richard:thumbup1:
  19. All wise words of advice - and best followed to avoid problems later I'd say!! The prices posted above do seem high though - I have never done it myself; but my dad did have the council extend the dropped curb area of his drive (London Borough of Waltham Forest) and it was only about £300 IIRC. Each local authority to their own I guess.... Richard:yinyang:
  20. I hear you mate - and I fully understand your predicament, especially as you no longer have a ZX...... .......And that does seem true Mandy!! So, not that I want to kick Quavey out, does anyone else fancy stepping up to the role of REO for the North West? There are some very active members from the region at present so please let me know! Feel free to drop me or Voddy a PM on the subject.. Richard:thumbup1:
  21. Exactly - if you're pulling the engine anyway then do that...... .....Otherwise it can be removed and refitted with the engine in place. Jeff has replaced my a/c pump recently and did not take the engine out!! If he did, he didn't charge much for an engine removal and refit.... Richard:thumbup1:
  22. Yes - what Graham said..... ......the 99-spec bumper is quite flexible; it bends instead of cracks in the event of a minor "bump" so you need this plasticiser (or whatever it is called) in the pait to make that flex as well. Or else the paint will crack and flake off if the bumper flexes. Which it will over time....! Richard:thumbup1:
  23. That depends - is the garage in a block of garages; and do others also leave their cars outside the garages as well? Does your rental agreement include rent of the land in front of the garage? Sure, you have a right of way over the land in order to access the garage; and no-one else can park there because they would be blocking your access. But the agreement may not include such use of the land..... If your agreement says the garage is specifically for vehicle storage, then it might exclude use for storage of materials and tools etc. But if you had 2 vehicles; and put one in the garage, leaving the other on the land in front, would that be OK. You obviously do not want to lose the garage; but you need to sit down with the owners and discuss these options. And find out what their objections are - maybe someone else has complained to the owners about your car being there? Richard:yinyang:
  24. Thanks Jeff - I had read (probably on here a long time ago - or possibly Luke's 'site selling the upgrade:wink:) that there was a difference in ATF cooling between the UK/J-spec cars!!
  25. Thanks Jeff - although it is bigger on the UK/EU spec cars though isn't it? Or have I just picked up on another myth....?
