  1. Hi Lee, I accept my post was a little blunt; but it was not directed at anyone specific - sometimes a written post can come accross the wrong way. I (along with the rest of the committee) do indeed welcome suggestions on how we can improve the club for the benefit of our members; and value our members' opinions. Which is the reason we have implemented this change.... .....And, it seems, everyone generally things it is a change for the better. However everyone also needs to remember that the committee runs the club in their spare time around work and family committments; so we are limited to the time and availability we have. Hence if we are to implement changes etc, we have to ensure we can do things within those capabilities. Which is why my response was aimed at all the suggestions that we should make more effort to contact those serving permanent bans to ensure they know of the change. To put it bluntly, we just do not have the time or resources; plus peoples' contact details change etc etc. This is a new idea for us as a club; and we have no idea how things will develop either, so committee and moderators will just have to manage the situation as and when things evolve - and make tweaks to the new system as the needs arise! Hope that makes sense mate.... Richard:clover:
  2. Nice - I'd quite fancy retirement.... Although with these half days, I could get used to it in the summer. I reckon I could get by working part time..... Gotta sign off soon though as my PC battery needs charging and the extension lead does not quite reach far enough into the garden.... Richard:clap:
  3. No worries - although I'll read and reply a bit later.... netbook battery going flat very soon!!
  4. LOL - I expect that Lee. You work in IT mate so you can do what you like on a PC....
  5. LOL - the forum is addictive, but viewing it on a phone would drive me nuts!! I don't have an iPhone though - just an HTC thingy - nonetheless, browing on such a small screen without a proper QWERTY keyboard is a damn nuisance. Still, I guess you can read what's happening, even if you don't actually reply to posts! Richard:thumbup1:
  6. How do you mean mate - and feel free to PM me if you don't want to say it in the open....?
  7. Of course Steve - I should have known that! It's the reason why some of my field engineers are logged into Facebook when they are actually out on the road.....
  8. OK, it's a bit tongue in cheek, this; and I'm not casting any aspersions...... ....But the last two days I have taken the afternoons off work (as holiday, before anyone asks) and, whilst sitting in the garden, I have been breaking in our new net-book mini-PC by browsing the forum whilst sunning myself. And I am amazed by the number of members also online during the day!! Sure, I know a lot of people work from home, work shifts, or just have their work PC connected to the forum. Or perhaps you are just on leave like me? whatever the reason, I am pleased you chose to spend your time browsing with me; cold beer, anyone....? Richard:wink::lol:
  9. That is a very good idea Joel..... ......And it would certainly be a big help to Voddy; as judging by the number of events that our members would dearly like the club to have a presence at, having just one NEO in place might not be enough. I do think that the REOs should probably do their bit to assist Voddy with events in their own regions, but a MEO, or a deputy NEO to help Voddy out sounds like the way to go. We do now have Noz as REO for the Midlands; and with Noel's connections/interest in motorsport, maybe we can do something with that. So on to Jaffa's bringing this to our attention. We hear you mate, we just need to do something about it! Richard:thumbup1:
  10. Hi Rose, Thanks for your input - always appreciated! And to respond to your comments about Si's apology, is was indeed duly acknowledged by the committee. Gary certainly did the right thing by leaving it, along with the responses, to remain on view. Gary did then follow the forum rules about a banned member logging on under an alias and did what he had to - still leaving Si's apology on view. None of us want to attach anything negative to Si's application to rejoin the forum; and that certainly will not be held against him! Si did the decent thing by apologising - and he did ask for my contact details, which he duly has received - but let's not forget, Si was not contacted by us about being eligible to have his ban overturned. HE found that out himself, whether by still visiting under an alias, or via friends from here or over the road! Word does get about..... As for your other comments about the thread being hard to read, nothing has been cropped; save for Si's subsequent posts to his apology for reasons above. Contrary to what you believe, we don't edit/delete threads for our own propaganda purposes!! This isn't like the old Eastern Bloc..... I would happily have my opening post restated on your forum; and like Gary says please feel free to do so. I have reservations about doing it myself, naturally so perhaps it's for the best that me and our committee abstein from that:wink: Good to see you are still around - although sadly I shall miss JAE this year as the revised dates clash with my holiday. Richard:thumbup1:
  11. Welcome back mate! And please do let Jaikai know - as he can fix that for you! Richard:thumbup1:
  12. Definitely!! If your waterpump has gone, then you need to remove the front of the engine and cambelt anyway; so for the cost of the belt it's just economical to replace it (and the thermostat) too. On the subject of the waterpump - when they fail, they leak more after the engine has been switched off, as opposed to running; plus it will probably run hotter in this weather with a leaky pump too. Oh, and one more thing, if you can get a replacement pump for £30, I assume that is not an original Nissan one? Best check it against the OEM one, as pattern waterpumps have been known to have a smaller impeller than the stock part. Not as good for pumping the water around the engine in a car where cooling is critical!! Hope that helps - and good luck mate! Richard:thumbup1:
  13. Yup - I have to concur.... ...The key thing with any changes to how the forum is run - like anything in life - is "keep it simple." Over-complicate matters and no-one will bother to even look; add too many "if we do this and you do that" conditions, same thing. People will switch off. The way we have done it, is to keep matters simple for all parties. Any banned member who genuinely would like to return will no doubt "keep an eye" on the forums still; or at least have friends here who might keep them informed of developments. Any members who have been permanently banned were done so with good reason at the time; so why should I (or any other committee member) spend the time trying to contact them, asking if they want to return? That's not me having an attitude problem either, before anyone jumps in, it's just me saying it straight, so in view of my previous paragraph; anyone, I repeat anyone, serving a permanent ban is now eligible to apply to have their ban reconsidered by the committee. All they have to do is email me or any other committee member. Simples. I meant it when I said that we do listen; and we do care what our members have to say - hence the reason this change has been made. And made in a way that is managable (ie kept simple) for us to implement; so whilst we are receptive to to new ideas and suggestions, until we know just how this latest change will pan out, please stop telling us how we should do this one thing and continue to suggest ways in which we can improve other areas of the forum!! Richard:wink:
  14. ...yup.... ....But that is what I'll wager Lexx was thinking...! Online you can try here: http://www.whatcar.com/valuations But as harsh as it sounds, Pete is right. These are all just guides; you said it yourself mate, when the valuations vary so much, it's hard to say. Going from your own comments about the condition, then she may as well start at the higher end of the valuations you have seen and come down from there! Richard:yinyang:
  15. LOL - so how long have you been married matey....:whistling:
  16. Whilst my opinion (if it ever happens) is in my post above, Pete is dead right there. The Press has just sensationalised the story as it's been a slow day for news no doubt.... ......And our government is not actually about to bring in such legislation tomorrow.... Richard:wink:
  17. I agree mate - if we cannot have capital punishment anymore; then anyone convicted of murder (depriving their victim of the right to live) should in turn be deprived of their own human rights. This sort of thing really boils my piss - a bit like the EU courts "demanding" we give prisoners the right to vote???? This is why the EU does not work and we should tell Brussels to "ferk erf".... Richard:blink:
  18. Many happy returns fellas - have a great day!! Richard:happybday:
  19. Maybe mate..... But the sad thing is, it is still one of the best wastes of licence payers' money!! And that says a lot for the other programmes aired at the moment....
  20. Hell, I am surprised Ebay permits the sale of that:shock: Sure, buyer beware and all that, but that could prove lethal!!! Richard:blink:
  21. Hi Jamez; you're logged in now mate...! If you need your password resetting, Jaikai (Lee) is the man to do that - please drop him an e-mail jaikai@300zx.co.uk Hope that helps, Richard:thumbup1:
  22. Great find mate... ....I have been fortunate enough to see (and drive) the Sultan of Brunei's former ZX (now owned by PhilP); it's a black UK spec with a genuine 11k miles on the clock. And a couple of years ago, JeffTT had a red UK spec car in the workshop - completely original (until the owner made a few upgrades) - which had only 19k genuine miles on it. Hell, the leather interior even smelt new after all these years!! But less than 200 miles; amazing!! Richard:bow:
  23. OK guys, back on topic please!! A lot of feelings have been made clear in this thread - and constructively so - and for the most part, the discussion has gone as positively as I intended. Committee members (ie those voting on each application) have not, as far as I'm aware made their feelings known; as Stella says, he is Head Moderator and not on committee - so whatever his personal feelings are, have no bearing on any application to return to the fold!! It seems, though, that we have come a long way from my original post - to the point where people have forgotten what I said!! ....Case in point above...... ...I have not singled out Mark for any reason other than the (brilliant:lol:) idea ha came up with above was already included in my first post!! The thing is, the rest of the committee and I have reviewed the present system and updated it to take into account that people/circumstances/times change. As Stella says, any member serving a permanent ban is eligible to reapply to return to the forum after 12 months; all they have to do is e-mail me or another committee member and we will vote on all applications. It is an obvious fact that some will be successful and others will not - for example someone who ripped off members will probably find it harder to get their application approved. And as for the notion that the membership should have the vote on who returns, please remember that membership changes each and every year; members come and go, so as said above, the members are not always in possession of the full facts. But that does not mean the committee is unwilling to hear the memebrs' opinions. We are - hence the very reason we have reviewed the whole permanent ban system now!! Hope that makes sense - and please do keep posting your thoughts; we do care what you all think!! Richard:thumbup1:
  24. It was deliberate..... .....The sketch started with JC reading a letter saying something about why do they road test Ferraris and the like, when one cannot use them under normal road conditions. Hence he lied and said "We took the car to Hertfordshire, which is just 40 miles outside London......" As if to say, here you are, you can use these cars. Tongue in cheek mate... Richard:laugh:
  25. Happy birthday mate! Richard:happybday:
