Anyone got a spare Hicas Eliminator
As above chaps and chapets :) only need the loan of one as my Zed is in the local garage on Thursday for ripping the entire Hicas system out and the SPL hicas eliminators I sell are just being shipped out now, so iffy if it will be here in time. I will of course make it worth your while for the use of this :) :duffer: (approx 48 hrs) cheers smithy

Has your tubs gone?
When I used to sell turbos I asked customers why they were buying ? approx 65% were blowing excess smoke and had previously de-catted in past 6 months ( some only days!) approx 20% were simply looking to upgrade for more power and or had the engine out anyways and the last 15% had purchased turbos in past 18 months from another company because of excess smoking to find that someway down the line it happened again. Now from this I (IMO) conclude that seeing as the Zed engine is meant to have a certain amount of back pressure in the system, de-catting is the biggest modification that alters this, so you run a higher risk of excess smoking. Now add to this the various different exhaust designs/manufactures on the market today, again these play a part in back pressure and go towards explaining why some do and some dont, of course other factors like engine breathing etc also come into it, but IMO without a doubt, for as many peeps who say theirs has been okay, theres just as many who havn't ! So personally for anyone whos thinking about de-catting for power, do so if you know you can spare a couple grand within the next 6 months or so, just to be on the safe side :) OR as tehre are now sports high flowing universal cats on the market today, buy a set of new S/S decatts and have these new hight flow sports catts fitted, gotta be a cheaper option than fitting standard again or decatting and POSSIBLY needing new tubs. Finally, when we talk of the turbo seal, it is actually a piston ring seal that wears, never in 4 years did a set of mine come back ( to me) with this seal gone again as Turbo dynamics are the only company I know that fit as standard on 300zx' turbo's, stagger gap race spec rear piston ring seals, hence the last 15% of my sales  cheers smithy

Crank Sensor Test
It really ain't that bad to remove the cam covers mate, i've done it and with just basic tools. remove intake hose to throttle bodies, drain coolant, remove viscous fan and shroud if poss, remove top rad pipe, unplug harness to CAS and PTU,Remove Top water inlet pipe to block ( this is the only fiddly item) then all bolts are easily visable and ready for removing, should take a good hour 1st time round. Least you'll know a 100% if it's belt related or not :) smithy

Moderators and stuff like that!
thats for the "committe" Mike said mate ( unless i misunderstood ) then the committe pic their/our moderators. cheers smithy
-
Moderators and stuff like that!
thanks for the explanation mike, am sure it make ssense in some eyes, just not others. I would like to see at the very least though moderators (except for regional event ones) are voted in each year, simply because we have so many new members arriving all the time and obviously with different things to contribute to our club, least this way a greater number of people get to have a go at doing it, if none come forward then of course the existing is relected automatically. cheers smithy
-
Moderators and stuff like that!
Do you think perhaps Mike we may look into changing that then, this question of "how" and "who" moderators are as been asked before, it does at present mean that IF some members are unhappy with a particular way a mod deals with things, then in order to change it we have to wait a long time to vote the committe out i assume ? which is like using a sledge hammer to crack a nut! cheers smithy

Zero tolerance
All very well said bud ;) you get my vote for owt you want to do :D Billy, those exmaples you posted did state that what the guy posted was "FALSE" I cannot see how anywhere in the world if someone prints/posts a true fact that anyone can be sued and have never heard of this happening. If someone has threatend this club with action due to obviously somthing being posted, then the offending piece or article i would assume has now been removed and the Author advised accordingly, HOWEVER that said, in all cases of common sense we as a club should be advised on what it was so as to prevent further repercussions by anyone esle, albeit an innocent party. smithy

I thought this was a club?
Man well all this just goes to show what can happen when someone ends up totally frustrated and almost desperate about resolving a problem  My 2p worth being a trader. Feedback- Traders should encourage this within their own section themselves, it's beneficial to both sides because we need to know what areas if any we fail, so no need for the committee to create this. Problem solving- IMO should be in stages. Stage 1 try to resolve your problem with the trader concerned, at the end of the day we are only human, have lives outside the club and mistakes can happen, PUT 7 DAYS AS THE LIMIT TO BE RESOLVED if that didn't work Stage 2, contact Mac and or Shunter, explain the problem calmly as possible and ask for their help as Liason officers, again a 7 days limit IMO is reasonable, if still unhappy with the end result Stage 3, Both parties present to Mac all their evidence relating to the problem, PM's, emails, paperwork etc etc. Mac then with the aid of the committee and ANY other outside source he sees fit, investigates to the best of his ability and with what has been given to him, again within 7 days he makes a ruling. If in favour of the customer the trader is asked to abide by it, if he fails he risks the possiblity of not being asked back as a trader on our forum as he/she clearly is not looking after the members, if the finding is in favour of the trader, the customer can then use what ever sources he wishes to pursue his claim outside the forum as the committe have done all they can, that includes posts on the forum as it has been investigated and a conclusion found, albeit not a happy 1, as long as facts are typed, the forum have no concern.. Now all this means things are dealt with correctly and certainly within a timely manner. This is something I think the committe should introduce, though in short it partly already is and rarely would i expect to see things going beyond stage 2, if at all. Now unless am mistaken, Paul is already past these stages (being 9 months) and hence should say what he likes in a thread, close it before anyone interupts and wait for ryan to respond to it, imo of course ;) Matty, you ole dog you, good to see yer around :D and yep yer right if things were done back then as they are now, I think a different end result would have been found regards Jeff, on the plus side though, as you say he doesn't need the club as he has become more succesful, so in short it is we as a club who have lost out by not having his knoweldge and input on forum. Oh and before someone pipes up as to why he is no longer here, yes I do know, the facts! cheers smithy

Cam cover removal
Remove fan shroud and fan, (fiddly) Drain coolant out and remove top rad pipe. unplug CAS and PTU Remove the 2 intake pipes to throttle bodies. Remove water inlet pipes that go in between cam covers Remove all bolts securing cam covers. 1st time around quite fiddly and time consuming, after the 3 or 4 times quite easy :D cheers smithy

PAS Pump
Got the last of the bits i need mate and the local garage is doing the swap on the 8th of next month ;) So shortly....... cheers smithy
-
PAS Pump
N/A an TT's are different pumps, hence why some fit the N/A pump when removing the HIcas, fewer feeds and also the N/A sits on the block slightly different, other than that am aware of no other differences. smithy

New Gauges
Pretty much all the Jap made electronic gauges are really good, Apexi, greddy, defi and blitz, most do the same job and have the same warning features and of course all come at a price. Autometer have always proved to be pretty reliable and offer a vast range of both mechanical and electrical in many styles and prices which won't break the bank either. Oh btw, I use Apexi EL gauges for water temp, EGT and boost which i love :hyper: cheers smithy

Turbo advice
Turbos Sport 500s These little guys can seriously kick some ass. With all the right piping and accessories, look to make around 430-470 RWHP. Pricing is $1900.00 Sport 530 BBs These babies kick in hard due to their ball bearing design. A misconception of ball bearing turbos is that they spool sooner. Well they don't. They spool harder and faster when they reach their igniting point. Say for example all turbos kick in hard at their 70k RPMs point. Ball bearings will from 70k+ kick in faster and quicker. I have these on my personal vehicle. Expect 450-520* RWHP from these hotties. *Please take note: 520 RWHP figure is with our manifolds, not ported stock! Pricing is $2900 Sport 700 BBs The latest and greatest from JWT. Also known as "Disco Potatoes" and GT28RS'. Pricing is $3200 There yer go fella, add around £200 + for shipping and then 20 1/4% on top of the final figure for duties etc and yer done ;) You deffo don't wanna devalue a couple grands worth of turbos's for customs, could cost you dearly! so if you import them, do it properly. smithy
