The Bosch ones fit the compartment fine. The are not as high as the old Nissan ones, you just need to add a few washers to the threaded rods, or put a solid wood shim under the battery, works perfect. John

As far as I know, all car batteries have lead plates, calcium can be added to the electrolyte (or something like that) If there is a Costco in your area, they sell Bosch Silver batteries at a good price. I bought the most powerfull one they sell, and it was about £39, over 70 ah I believe, with loads of cranking power. John
  3. Hi Van, I hope you have had some good luck with your autobox, did draining some of the fluid out help ? John
  4. Van, When you drain the autobox, only about 4 litres comes out, the rest stays in the torque converter, it seems you have severely overfilled it. (I did mine last week, took about 4 litres) Drain some out, I dont know if you have done any damage, seal damage may be possible I hope you have not damaged it, I'm keeping my fingers crossed mate. John
  5. When I had mt MR2 I always changed the oil (Castrol Magnatec) every 3000 miles. Since getting my ZX (n/a) I changed the oil last time with Magnatec. Now, 3000 miles later, today I switched to Mobil 1 15 - 50. How often should I change the oil now ? Should I still change it every 3000, or can I let it go to about 4500 ? Thanks John
  6. I just got this off the Internet regarding fog light requirements for the M.O.T. Rear Fog lamps** must be fitted to the centre or offside of the vehicle tell-tale must work must not be affected by other lamps and not be obscured must be red. (2 asterisks said it applies to all cars after 1980) John
  7. Thanks Oneday, I have sent them an e-mail John
  8. I did a search, found a wiring diagram that shows wiring up a relay to the "inner" brake lights. What do they mean by "inner", surely its just the drivers side brake lights to wire up to ? Maybe its easier to buy a fog light kit from Halfords? Thanks
  9. Thanks Barry, No, it does not have a rear fog light.........amazing, when I bought the car 6 months ago they gave me the last 4 m.o.t.'s I guess I will have to go for the brake light conversion. Is this a legal way to do it? Thanks John
  10. Tried my fog lights today (n/a Import) the front passenger side fog light came on, but no difference at the rear, how is it supposed to work ? is it on a separate fuse ? separate bulb ? or special bulb ? Thanks John
  11. Apexi had the best filtering in a test....do a search and you will find the results. Roughly the same horsepower gain as all the rest, I think. John
  12. Thanks guys, I guess I will have to get the standard one from Luke and fit it myself John
  13. Mac, thanks.........I must say a new standard one makes sense, but yours looks great, where did you get it, and how much did it cost? Cheers John
  14. Thanks everyone, I guess it makes sense to buy a new one. The standard one is easier to fit, and cheaper, and I could spray it myself. (ts been a long time ago, but once I sprayed a Lotus Elan 2+2, came out quite good for a first attempt.) I would prefer the higher spoiler that Zcentre sells, bit I am a bit unsure about the procedure for filling in the holes, has anyone fitted their own ? How did the filling of the holes go ? Thanks John
  15. My rear spoiler is starting to show the usual cracks and blisters. Has anyone tried to refurb their spoiler, stripping paint off, etc. and respray. If so, did you use any special sealer over the foam? Thanks John
  16. If your looking for a second hand one...........try Foreign Car Spares in Birmingham--they import second hand stuff from Japan also--ask for Dave, 0121-3278414, keep trying, he's does not always call back, but his prices seem good. He had a back windscreen fitted in my import for £100, parts and labour, the glass was second hand, but you cant tell it from new! John
  17. Well, I removed the autobox pan this morning, put new gasket on, completing the second dexron fluid change in the last few weeks. I was surprised when I was taking the pan off, IT HAS A DRAIN PLUG! Its not supposed to (I think), being a n/a import. Woud have saved me the trouble of pumping the fluid from the filler tube at the first round of the fluid change. John
  18. Thanks Jim............did you use any Loctite or some other locking liquid on the bolt threads? John
  19. Surely someone has fitted the new type gasket ? What torque settings did you use ? John
  20. I plan on changing the fluid in my autobox this weekend by removing the oil pan ( I removed the usual 4 litres a few weeks ago from the filler tube with a suction pump) As I understand it, the gasket used to be cork, now it is a thin, rubbery type 'cardboard' material. My question is, the Nissan workshop manual torque settings of 5 - 8 n-m (3.6 - 5.8 ft lbs) probably was meant for the more compressible cork gasket. Does anyone know if this new gasket material requires a higher torque setting ? Thanks, John P.S. Mike Feeney got me the gasket in 2 days, Nissan told me 6-8 weeks.
  21. Thanks Paul, From what you say, then maybe the pan that the dealer has will fit, that is, if Nissan upgraded all the pans to have a drain plug. I agree with you that the pan should be removed when doing an oil change, but it would be tempting to get a nice shiny new one for £18. A point to make is that other than removing crud from the magnet, changing transmission fluid is no different to changing engine oil, and we dont remove the pan to do that. Cheers John
  22. Thanks Richard, Why did you replace the PIAA's ? The Osram's sound good, I took a look at the comparison in Auto Express, very impressive, and a great price. Came out better than my Bosch ones. I may just buy a pair. Thanks John
  23. Goodyear Eagles F1's...........about £100 each - best tyre available. John
  24. Richard, Did you notice any improvement when you changed to the Osram bulbs ? How much did they cost, and where did you get them from ? Thanks John
  25. I did the low beam conversion so I can use H3 bulbs, drivers side went like clockwork, but the passenger side gave me a load of problems. Screw to attach new earth lead came out, and I could not get another one in. I attached an earth lead to the loop at the end of the bulb retaining spring with solder and insulation tape...........works great, cant wait to see if they are any better. I used Bosch Zenon SB bulbs from Halfords, £8 each John
