Ecu Upgrade? Boost Controller?
I have never heard of that ECU make but there are loads of Japanese companies which make stuff for the Z and we dont hear of. I am sure if a Z in Japan had a SE chip they would wonder who they are. The ECU chip doesn't actually give you that much more power. What it does is allow you to rise your boost levels safely. If the ECU is good and you have stock intercoolers people say 12-13 or even 14psi is OK. 15-16psi on stock intercoolers is asking for trouble. If your inter coolers are uprated ones, you can run 15-16 more safely. As for power at the wheel depends on a lot of things. We can only guess and it will be a guess. You could take it to a rolling road and then find out its higher or lower than what you expect. The general rule is, induction, echaust, decat, ECU and boost rised to 12-13, you will have about 380-390 even 400bhp at the crank. But then you will lose a lot through the transmission. Auto boxes lose more than manuals, but having an uprated autobox and torque converter will increase efficiency so less power will be lost. Manual boxes lose less power but can be made with more efficent with lightened flywheel, or even skimmed a few times and uprated clutches will help you gain back some power which is usually lost. You may have these things on you car, but the only way to find out is to open things up and have a look. Stuart

stock solinoid connectors - where?
This may sound stupid, but do Z's have a solinoid stock? Is the waste gate a soilinoid? Stuart

sad day for me.... it's gone
DOH! There are not many of you original 300ZX board people left. Sorry to hear about your departing. Hope you are not Z'less for long. You can at least get one with fewer miles on when ;) you get another. Stuart

Gearbox Grief
Really there is no need to ask whats wrong. You should just really take the car back and say its not right and its upto them to sort it. I gave little eperience with Auto Boxes but I think I agree with you with the torque converter. Stuart

Will Hoy??
Really? That was kept quiet. Shame. :(

Wtf!!!!
I hear that they are worth more in parts as cars. I.e. You can buy one for £20,000 and then sell all the parts off for more than that. AndyZ, you are doing the wrong cars. LOL Seriously they are monsters. Even the GSI 3 litre turbo'd will be very fast. But where they not front whell drive? Stuart

Wtf!!!!
Its could have been a Carlton Lotus, which looks exactly the same as a Carlton until you look under the bonnet and see a lovely 3.6 V6 Twin Turbo Lotus engine. Stuart

GAS Conversion
People have said that you lose about 10% of your power when running of gas, but you also get 10-15% less fuel effiency. So instead of getting 20mpg you will be getting 17-16. Plus the extra weight of a gas tank that is large enough to actually held enough gas to get anywhere in a Z. The Z needs a large petrol tank to hold enough to actually get some where. Think of a 60-70 litre gas tank in your car and how much that would weigh. It would probably knock your MPG down even further. Stuart

Tyres Size HELP
Yes slightly. But the profile of the rear tyre is smaller it wont make it as bad as you think. Its probably 2%-3% out. Stuart

Off Work In Pain......... :o(
Strange that. I have played hundreds of rugby games and never really been injured. I have broken my nose and knocked a tooth out. But like you Warren I finished the match first. It was only a little bit of blood. ;) If you where playing for a Saturday or Sunday league team, its compensation time too. You dont know it but all amature football and rugby teams have to have insurance to pay for any medical costs and any missed wages. :D Stuart

Rta
Thats the problem sometimes because we can never really have any experience a situations like this before its too late, we tend to over compensate and when grip comes back, the car gets flung the other way very violently. This happened to me when I had a low rear tyre. The back end came out, I put opposite lock on which make it kick out the other way even more so. Lucky I was only doing 25mph (ish) and I managed to hold it. Things would have been different if it happen at 45. Least you are both OK though. Stuart

This true??
No. Infact the company which makes these magnet things have been taken to court in the US for saying such lies.

Oops - 156mph!
I know some one with 18 points on their licence and because she is training to be a nurse they let her off with a ban after 12. She has had 2 speeding tickets with points, 1 accident and 2 counts of driving without insurance. She tried to get insurance a few months ago. Cheapest was £3000 for a 1.4 Corsa I think it is. There was a person on a bike that got a 1 year prison sencence for doing 160 on a single carrage A Road. I think he was hit so hard because he filmed it so he couldnt say it was an accident, he also had a revolving numberplate. Stuart

Nissan Profits
Most of that will be due to other Nissans such as the Micra and Extreme ( Or what ever the 4x4 is called ) Sports model cars are not known to make much money. Its the smaller cheaper models that do. Having an expectional sports car does give the whole thing a boost though. Even so good news. I think people dont give Nissan enough credit for what the buid. Stuart

02 Sensors
Have you done an O2 test? The best thing to do is disconnet them and see if you car runs any better
-
Code 21 & 13
13 = Engine Temperature Sensor Circuit 21 = Ignition Signal Circuit. That is why your car is going like shit. The engine temp sensor when not working causes your engine to really to stuggle trying to start and splutter when its going. Look here for the diag light numbers http://www.300zx.co.uk/tech/manual/manual/efec/051.gif Stuart

NZR. Strange modem problem??
Is the Modem CPIC complatable? I think its called CPIC. Its when perpherals can use IRQ's above the traditional 16. I know new motherboards support it and Windows XP does, but the modem may not. I had trouble with my old DVD Decoder Card with the CPIC setting. Stuart

Flushed my radiator today.
Dont. Cant see why not? It doesnt go hard or anything, it just dislodges any bits that got stuck in the system. Apparently Anti Freeze congeals (sp) over time. I think it worked because there where small bits that came out Stuart

NZR - 2 pc's by USB ports
Its not as simple as that, you need special software and I dont know of any offical software that allows it. I think its mostly 3rd party stuff which works. Bets way is to do it with fire wire if you can as they are classed a network devices and you connect the normal way. Stuart

I dont believed it happened
I am at work, to do the betting on the Man Utd Real Mardid match and I got a doner kebab covered in chilie sause for my dinner. Realising that I have a white T-Shirt, a sloppy kebab is not the best thing to be eating, with no knife or fork, it you want to remain clean. I sound like a washing powder advert. ;) Anyway last bit of kebab to go and not one drop on me and I was very pleased. :D I eat the last bit very carfully, success :D Not one to leave any bit of a kebab, it was time to eat the small bits that are left over. Picking up the last small strand of doner meat, if that is what it is, I moved it towards my mouth and............ SNAP! The fecking strand of meat snapped and the bottom half, covered in chilie sauce, landed in the middle of my white T-Shirt. Not olnly that but it also slid down making it even worse. Why does this sort of thing happen? LOL Stuart

Flushed my radiator today.
Apparently there can be bits in you which has been there for years. Nastly thought. Still doesnt want me to go out and have tube of warm water stuck up my arse. Stuart

Flushed my radiator today.
Got this stuff in 2 bottles. In the end you end up flushing the thing about 7-8 times because its, empty, full with water put content in, idle for 30 mins, empty, fill with hot water, run for 5 mins, flush water and then fill with cold water, then bottle 2 with doing the same. Took a good 2 hours to do it. But the water that came out was all greasy and yucky at times. Worth doing though I think. 1 less you know you have done, and it seems to cool my engine better. Stuart

Dynotest
You cant say in BHP what the loss is. The best way is %age but even that isnt a true science. 4WD will lose about 33% of power from engine to wheels Auto Boxes, from what I hear, lose about 20% and Manuals 15%. But there are ways to make it lose less power. Lighter flywheel, different types of clutch, getting rid of the LSD for a a fixed on, lighter drive shaft. Even down to the condition of the wheel bearings will all make a difference. Like Andy said with the MR2. I know some one with a Turbo on stock power 245bhp. He put on a HKS induction kit and HKS exhaust I think, and dyno'd it and it got 245bhp. 2 mods made it gain back the power lost through the transmission. Stuart

Boot spoilers - use or ornament ?
Search on TT.net with people who have removed the stock spoiler and gone for the no spoiler NA look. They say when you get to over 60mph the back end feels light. Didnt feel safe at all. Stuart

Modded jap cars vs. Ferraris
But you have to ask yourself would you mod a F40? Lets consider that there are very few of them in the world and they will cost you £140,000 for a 10 year old car. Would you start to mess with a legend? I wouldnt. Doing anything unoriginal to it, to me is the worse thing you can do to a true classic car. But Japanese performance cars have loads of potential because corners are cut to keep costs down and drivability up. If you had an F40 you dont care that the clutch is too hard, slow speeds are impossible and the ride is real uncomfortable. But these are the things that will turn you away from in a Nissan or Toyota. I personally think, if you spend thousands on a Z, but the 2 seater hard top to make it lighter, strip it out and up the engine to about 500bhp, I think it will give most Ferraris a run for their money. And lets consider the F40 costs about 8 years of an average wage and the F50 will cost about 12-15 years of an average wage. With The Fast And Furious scene. You are compairing a 355 I think it was which are about 400bhp and quite light, not very, against a 600bhp Supra which after gutting it out wouldnt weigh too much more and in real life that car would have beeten it. Go look at 1/4 mile times of Ferrari F40 11.8 Seconds. F50 12.1 Seconds. 550 Maranello 12.6 Seconds. Lamborghini Diablo GT 11.6 Seconds. Now you think when the cheapest car is £140,000 2nd hand, those times are not that impressive. You can spend £20,000 on you 300ZX now and make it faster than all of those. Stuart
