De-Cat pipes?
They do a visual test. I know people who have had their car decatted with new pipes and failed because he said those pipes didnt have the cats on. Every year he changes then and puts them back. LOL Stuart

Taking my car apart. The Diary.
Part 2..... After taking the bumper off we looked to see what was wrong. Drivers side rear arch. This is the part behind the arch which goes along the side of the exhaust. Most of it is rusted and you will see how much of it left is good. This is unside the rear passenger arch. The hole because the petrol neck, which is now off, trapped a huge pile of mud against the arch rotting it away. We took the pressure washer to it to get rid of the surface dirt so we could start taking the rust off. This the drivers rear sill after we brushed away the rusty bit. Not much left. :( Never fear, my dad jack of all trades makes another piece to go over it. It doesnt look pretty but it wont be seen as it will be painted and overed in sealer, it does the job. Mean while, while my dad was cutting away at the inner arches and sills, I started to get the rust off my passenger wheel arch. I was told to just take off the parts with the rust. As you can see there want much that didnt have it. It was sanded down too, which made it look a lot worse, before slaping a quick coat of paint to protect it for tonight. Not a bad day. We did quite alot and had to take an hour and half off to pick my girlfriend from work. But shes fine now. Few more days to go. Hope you are all enjoying these ;) Stuart

Taking my car apart. The Diary.
Day 2 After taking the rear bumper off and noticed that the back of the rear arch is doubled skinned and thus we needed to be able to access it meaning exhaust off. It wasnt as hard as it sounds actually. The bolts where already unstuck after my clutch change just before Xmas and decat just after. Here are my lovely Mongoose exhausts, or is it Mongease? LOL A little dirty but you know me. :D While my dad was doing the not very important job of measuring new peices of sheet metal for replacing the arches I was cleaning the whole of the exhaust. While the exhaust is off, here is the "Bog Brush" method of cleaning the pipes. Here is the pipes all messy with the bog brush in a jar with a little paint stripper in it. Put the bog brush inside, which is a nice fit. Twist it round about 5 times and then deep down and up a few times and then pull it out. Wipe away the wet paint stripper that's around the exhaust with a cloth and there you go nice and clean. It may not look as clean because its in the shadow but it is very clean, compaied to the one next to it which wasnt half as bad. More to come............. Stuart

De-Cat pipes?
Do you know what I dont know. I think with decatting its not that important, to me anyways, how you do it. But to be truthful I dont really know much of that side of the car. Warren confused me when he said just decatting causes turbulance. First time I head that but like I said I dont know much about it. I think the £30 pipes are you cut out the cat section of the pipe and patch it with the £30 pipes. I think. However its who you ask. I have heard from many people that gutting the cats is better than test pipes, again, I dont know why its just what I hear. If it was me I would go for gutting the cats before cutting them and putting your own pipe on. MOT places check the cats just by looking at it and if there is a section of different pipe they know its been tampered with, while gutted cats look exactly the same. Not really a problem if you are legaly allowed to take them off but a problem if you are not. Test pipes are just down pipes with no cat in there in the first place. I think you will be OK with what you go for because its only decatting by any other mods dont skimp on money I think. That is why my car modding has come to a huge halt. My choice would be in this order Test pipes Gutted cats £30 pipe jobbie. Stuart. P.S. I have had mine gutted, like you I didnt want to spend £200 on test pipes and replaceing a section of the pipe didnt sound that, how can I say this, clever. At the time I heard that gutting it was safer than test pipes.

Rear bumper removal
Thanks I have a load of rust in that area. Including where the tank neck cover nicely collected a nice pile of mud for me while later on just ate the inside of my wheel arch :( Stuart

indiglo gauges
Any idea how they will fit on? If you take the needle off you are fecked, but I do know that some makes of indiglo gauges are big enough in the middle so you can put it on without having to take the needle off and it sits over your old dial. Stuart

indiglo gauges
Yes the location holes that hold the speedo into place are different on a Series 1 and 2. But they do fit. I have a series 2 speedo in my series 1 dash but the location hole are in the wrong place Stuart

De-Cat pipes?
I am not trying to call any one here but that is how engines blow. People want the extra power but are not prepared to pay to have it done correctly. Its either a few hundred now or a few thousand later. :( Stuart

indiglo gauges
I would prefer the reverse glow when the number light up. Personally I prefer them.

Taking my car apart. The Diary.
While I and my dad have 2 weeks off we are stripping down my Z and doing everything that needs doing to it, which means a lot of rust and change the petrol tank. I have decided to post what we are doing so you know all of the blood, sweat and tears I shed for my car. It may not be the best but I love it and I do my best keeping it going. For the next week or so I will post up what we have done and what we have found wrong and how we fix it. Anyways. Today late start as we had to drive to Bolton to Machine Mart to buy a couple of tools and a nice trolly to lie on. Saves lying on the floor in all the crap. This was our first port of call. You can see there the inner arch is wet. That is petrol that comes out every time I fill the car up or go round a round about. Graham from the meeting can voutch for the smell of the fuel which gets sickening at times. After putting the car high up on stands we took off the bolds which holds on the straps. They where hard but a big bar took them off with little trouble. We put a crate on the jack to take the weight as we unbolted the back of the straps on the tank. Inside the boot we took off panel to access the pump disconnected the power and took off the 2 pipes. The main fuel pipe pissed out fuel when we took it off. So any one wanting to do this watch out. Because the screws holding the neck on where so bad we couldnt take the neck off first before we dropped the tank so after taking the rubber bungs that hold the exhaust on we where able to move th exhaust slightly and drop the tank. This is a pic of the car without the tank and for any one who is really good, they would have noticed something else is missing. But what ;) Just after this was taken I gave the whole thing a good blast with the pressure washer and revield the writing on the diff. ;) Found lots of things that needed doing while we where taking the tank off and I will post my findings and work here tomorrow. Today was a short day today. We only started at 12:30 ish and finised at 4 because I am at work tonight. :( Anyways, just thought I would tell you whats happeneing. I am actually learning a lot about this car by doing this. Off to work. Stuart

indiglo gauges
Yes interested. :D I just want some nice simple ones. Nice and clear during the day and blue during the night. :D Are these Indigo when the face lights up or Reverse glow when the numbers light up? Mines a series 1 Stuart

Pause for thought...corrossion
Mine is like that at the moment and yes it should fail if it is so far from a mount like you said. I am attempting to repair it this week while I have a week off, but if you have any suggestions or advice on how to do it I would be very grateful. Stuart

on the limiter yahoo!!!!
If its Jap and hasnt been de limited, you would be going 112mph. If it has been de limited and where going red line in top gear about 175 ish

Windscreen Woes!
Possible they sent the Z31 (pre 89 300ZX) windscreen which would be the wrong shape and size. As I believe the only difference between the UK and Jap Z32 windscreen is the colour. UK has a dark tint and Jap have an orange tint. Stuart

Advise on GTS 2.5 Turbo plz !
GTR is the 4WD one and Twin Turbo. V-Spec is a higher spec GTR, with larger wheels, uprated brakes (I think), and quicker reacting 4WD system. The GTS is just RWD single turbo I think. No where near as powerful or as good as the GTR. Never heard of a GTT. I know that they come in NA too. Stuart

Ecu
Decatting is a strange one. It is illegal for cars 92+ to be decatted. As for damage, it will speed up any leak on you turbo seals becuse of the increased pressure back up the exhust. It makes the turbos spin up faster so you get more power lower down the rev range and you dont need any ECU change for it, but it is best to reset it after any mod. However for NA I belive the engine will not run as good if its decatted. Something to do with needing pressure. Stuart

paint it?
Never seen them. They are huge leather covers that goes over the front of the car. I dont see the point of them really, but I think in the dusty areas of the US there are a lot more stones about. Most of the ones in the US are chips from the tarmac or road works. Stuart

speedo not working
The converter is attached to the back of the speedo. Its a little black box as I believe. I dont know if it needs replacing or if the joints need soldering again. Stuart

VEILSIDE CII Body Kit
Thing is I have seen that on an MR2 and a Supra and they all look the same. And I dont want my car to look like a MR2 or Supra with the same nose. Stuart
