  1. hey mateys, gonna have myself a little project next year and rebuild my own z engine. I am very practical and although i am giving myself a challenge it is something that i want to do and also on a self educating basis (learn how to maintain my engine) i was thinking of nothing huge but i would like to hit the 380 to 400 BHP mark, please can i get help with a list of what i should buy ready for the project? so far i have: Stage 2 ECU Front Mounted intercooler. new timing belt kit (waiting to be fit) what i would like to know is what injectors and stuff i would need to purchase? also as for replacing cables and clips where on earth do i go to get that done? i know someone who can make the majority of them however i can never see them on flea bay. also where do i go to get the engine block checkd for cracks and also can i paint the engine from home? just to get an idea i will start a so called list of what to get and do then you lot can either add or advise me on what is pointless.. ok here goes....... 555 injectors (or maybe smaller?) upgrade turbos or rebalance and fit 360 degre thrust bearings? new looms new maf engine paint? chrome plenum? wossner forged pistons (i think these have 4 little indents so that valves never hit pistons... is this correct?) engine block treated? (perhaps even just cleaned) new coil packs? sparks (which brand and grade) etc so basically this is my understanding on a typical engine rebuild. what would ou guys think i would need (parts wise) for 400bhp and what other things should i make sure i do whilst engine is rebuilt? the more info i get the more i can buy every month in preperation for my engine rebuild. thanks all

  4. ok got the photos to what i believe are the solenoids do you reckon these would still work ? is this the way they are meant to be or are they meant to slot in further? cheers

Unfortunately i have no idea. i have no boosty controller (electrical) as far as i have been told so far the two solenoids are rusty and where they were exposed won;t work... although it looks like they were just pulled half out and tightened.. wonder if i can try putting them back in? all i know is i hear a whistle when i accelerate (which sounds like the hole) but short of someone actually showing me i am lost. having someone look at it later but i will just go and take a photo of the solenoids now.

  7. ok here goes i am trying to get a grasp of what is going on. i have a TT SWb Auto and the needle never moves anywhere from 0. doesnt go - or +. had turbo's checked and they are not blown and i also done the idle test and never got any smoke from the exhausts. Having had the engine checked i have been told that two wires/cables that run either side of my engine (apparently connect to turbo's) are not connected properly and so the ECU has no control over the boost :eek: apparently they were not plugged in properly and exposed to the air and have broken. been told can plug back into ecu control or get boost controller (if i can find one cheapish) started worrying about over boosting luckily enough there is no boost which at this stage i would prefer than them to spool to oblivion. The bit i am looking to understand is i have some sort of system that tricks the actuators into opening them longer (sounds dodgy) and a hole that restricts the boost . what is this system? what does it do and what is the purpose? All i know if there is a deliberate hole made somewhere to let excess pressure escape and restricting the boost to a certain PSI. (although because of the broken wires i have no boost so this is pointless at this time) please help me understand as whatever it is i plan to have ecu control boost again and hopefully close/weald this hole shut and have original restrictor

Bleedy hull!!!!!!!! didn;t come across a huge drug lord? wow if i was in that situation i would of got the mrs to push the car while i try to reverse ^^ i can imagine that being damn scary at the time tho.............. all i can say is WOW that is a very good story and next time i get stuck in a similar situation i will just proceed to call AA ^^
  9. 23 years old - no years no claim bonus. no accidents, 2 years driving experience. Have pug as my work car. Fully comp as additional driver (wife main driver) 12 years no claim bonus and 17 years driving exp (34 y.o) and the car covers commuting £1400 from diamond including the mods )

  11. Hello forum members… I thought I would share my experience to see if any similar embarrassing but funny moments happened to you lot.. Here goes mine first: A year ago I was going to Basildon with my mrs and as I am losing a bit of weight she decided to buy me some clothes from the town on the way to my parent in laws. Now usually me and my wife do not argue however after having an argument about cars and how my wife doesn’t care about them things got a little bit heated. Now after we had shopped we were on our way to Bas Vegas to see the in laws. My wife is always the winner when we argue as she always throws valid points at me that I can’t argue back with and me being a bit moody decided that this time I would not back down… Things got a little worse and I basically said I didn’t want the clothes she paid with her card on and that she can take them back. My wife being the reasonable one said to “stop being childish” and proceeded to drive on. Feeling lost for which way to get a reaction I decided I will take my clothes off in the car and not wear them…………….. She did not even blink >. Wasn’t prepared for what came next……………:headvswal She pulled over and said “GET OUT”!! Uh oh I thought to myself … what shall I do…. Had an idea that if perhaps I get out and walk a couple of feet she will ask me to get back in and I won’t have TOO much embarrassment. Needless to say it but……….. SHE DROVE OFF!!!!!:eek: I had cars horn at me……. Pedestrians stare at me………….. Some even threatening to beat me up………. One car threw chewing gum at my back which as you can imagine flying at 30 – 40 MPH will sting like hell…… :mad: To be honest all I was worrying about was 1. will I get home safely 2. Will I come across police and get nicked Luckily my wife was a mile up the road which went round the corner a bit aswell. Got back in car and I didn’t say a word until I got home… Laugh about it now but it was a scary experience back then….. and of course I never tried that one again :nono: Anybody else got some funny stories?
  12. Well had some lunch with my mate. He drives an e36 Bmw 1.8IS and he was infront.. He thought it would be funny to race me as he knows my car has a power loss issue at the moment. He started to speed off and i just kept behind him without giving it too much. All of a sudden bits of white smoke start coming from his exhaust... at first i was shocked however i started to laugh at the fact his car was getting so much attention.... whoops an even bigger plume of smoke bellowes out and he is slowly gassing the public as he drives by.... worrying that this may be oil (or lack of) i decided to stay well back incase i get burnt splodges on my bonnet Not being able to see it he is still trying to give his BMW a welly. By the time i got back to work he was not able to see whilst reversing into his space (by thsi time he realised the smoke) What made it even funnier was that when he pulled got out the car he started to talk to the person in his car next to him and proceeded to tell him how his clio is severely smoking. I am still laughing about it whilst i write this but i would be embarrased if i blamed someone else and found out it was me.... when i asked him if why he doesnt check his car he said that he made a deal with his girlfriend that as soon as his car packs up he will buy a new one. Turns out he said this 7 years ago and although he has deliberately mistreated it hoping for a new car it is still going strong and he is now on 215,000 Must say i am impressed but hopefully he may get his new car .... finally
  13. as the title say i have two females nagging me. Both like to have a go at me whether it be beeping or shouting. Both require regular servicing. Both are expensive Both like to treat themselves to new treads regulary Both suffer effects of older age :nelson: Both require a good oiling once in a while ;) Both require constant attention :-) Both make me look good :cool: both can make me look like an idiot :cry: but more importantly........... I love them both to bits and when things go smooth there is nothing that gives me more happiness sorry but it had to get a bit soppy in the end :dance:

  15. been a month since i was on any MMORPG..... luckily i did not lose my wife but after spening 38 hours a week at work i spent a further 60 hours at home on games like wow, ffxi and warhammer......... Only problem now is my addiction has been replaced with the car and so i spend all day searching these forums ^^ oh well atleast i have something to show for it ^^ warning to Women........... DO NOT let your fellas on these games if they have an addictive personality and you want more company ....... although if your fella hassles you for nookie ALL the time like i do my wife it may be a viable option as i never asked for it when i was recieving my wowcrack. Starting to slow down in my old age (23) and whilst my wife feels like she is 23 again i am starting to feel like i am 34 >.
  16. /sigh just had a run with my work colleague in the car.. commented on how fast it moves yet,........... Power loss again. this is really bugging me........ sometimes i wish i never bought the bleeding thing............. unfortunately it was the trophy blue SWB look with the 18 " inch deep dish wheels that sold it for me ^^
  17. which garage was that? looks like they opened up your bonnet and thought "no no no i am not going anywhere near that" ^^ ofcourse if it is a specialist then they are being lazy. it's not wider or anything? I have seen a aftermarket radiator however it was still able to be done by teh bog standard mech. maybe someone else can enlighten the subject ^^ i'll be following your post so i can also learn more :-)
  18. yeah sounds similar again . ill try to show example.. I have an auto... pull onto slip road... roars between 0 and 60 all of a sudden power loss (like hitting a wall) then i release the pedal for split second and re apply..... seems to be accelerating hard again... hit 90mph... power cut again for split second.... this time i decide to leave throttle on and it seems to accelerate like it did after the last power loss. this time i decided to kickdown from 70 and it goes like a rocket until 90 ish and then the same silly thing happens again.... my car is all happy with giving me the power freely until it builds up in speed (dont know what revs although in nutrual it goes to red) then it is like it can't make up its mind on wether to have power later on or not. aslong as i am not at about 60 or 90 mph i can place my foot down however hard i want and it never moans...... i will get a video later to show what happens. hopefully this will explain more

  20. one thing to note is when i accelerate it is fine. I would of thought the engine load would be highest at a start due to getting the weight in momentum however this does not seem to be the case as the car is already approaching 60mph fast and you feel the car get less heavier as it gets quicker............. then all of a sudden nothing for a second... Sounds like this car REALLY is going to be a pain
  21. you are right and it does sound very simalar. according to my reciepts with the car it has recentely had a temp sensor fitted althouth i have noticed that the car never warms up past 8 o'clock indication (done it once but after a long drive) maybe it could be that aswell.... i have noticed that boosting is pretty feeble until the car has been out for a decent drive aswell.. but the problem sounds so similar. did yours have constant power loss? sorry to sound vague It's just some members describe the powerloss as soon as they accelerate or in general whereas my car will move like the clappers when i move or downshift but after about 5 seconds (or when the engine load gets high) the power loss is like hitting a limiter or a wall just a shame it does it at 60 now instead of just 90. cheers for all the helpful feedback and trying to help me suss out what is up with this car
  22. Yeah i will do that unfortunately i often open the bonnet and think "where do i start" can't wait till next year when i take the whole bleeding lot out and do a rebuild on my own to learn about the engine ^^

Dave, you are very helpful ^^ i will get this checked asap. alot of my cabling is buggered and i know that the injectors cable are failing because after a few days of driving if i don;t pop the bonnett and press down on all the injectors the car runs crap aswell. I am looking at doing a full engine rebuild next year however i think over the next couple of months i would like to get what you mentioned all changed anyway i.e Coil-Pack connectors , injector connectors, PTU and MAF Thanks for your input dave and if anybody else has other ideas then please fell free to post them in ^^ Ta
  24. well it has a stage 2 ECU however a forum trader had fit it and mentioned to me that it was set to standard boost levels...... also i have a front mounted intercooler if this helps? getting annoyed at small cars beating me after the power loss... ideally i dont want to race but knowing the problem there doesnt help either for when i do want the odd run.... first i thought it was wet maf as it hammered it down when i bought it however it has ben dry for the last 2 weeks of me owning it and most days lovely and hot.
