  1. hello all, been reading the odd bit of the forums whilst on holiday but didn't reply as the keys were annoying me. arrived back couple of nights ago exhausted but crete and santorini were brilliant. Got some piccies i will post this week sometime. hired 3 different cars and the last one was a 107 which kept having issues. seemed to be heat related and intermittant. car would start running rough and we could not get the bugger back over the mountain roads back to the apartment. after turning it off for a bit all was well. it was not overheating but it felt like it would miss when it got hot. either way we got refunded and it made our last 3 days even more exciting than they were... albeit a tad streesful as we were 4 hours walk from phonebox, no ones stops for you and to top it off we were stuck in a valley and the car could not go over the mountains the way we came from or back home..... thankfully after leaving the car for 5 mins it started behaving long enough to get up the mountain road  decided to see Terminator salvation last night (big fan of the older movies) was a good movie and although it doesn't have the same feel of the older movies i still thought it was worth a watch. Apart from that i started the car after nine days of being away and got the sticky lifter again. a careful drive to tescos for shopping had solved it so all good to go again :-) i hope everyone has had a good week (last week) and a good weekend and may my return of posting commence :nana2:
  2. i had mine from bonnet stoppers... the rubbers break down and develop a squeak.. few quid from mjp and the problem was sorted
  3. well santa seesm to think it feels more lke momentary pressure loss. Coils and injectors are fine. PTU is fine. (he will explain more later) He said it runs smooth it's just a sudden loss. but surely with boost jets and no ecb the vacuum pipess must be put back in?
  4. OMG i love strawberry sundays................. i will be looking for this :-) i will have to note this down now and look for it :). I may come back fatter than i first thought.... good thing i am on a diet on my return :)
  5. when i had my old black 2+2 zed it came with the mudguards on... granted they kept everything very nice and tidy up there and did their job but i actually did think about removing them as they are ugly and the cars look much better without them. If you are going for practicality and fancy the standard classic zed then i can see why you want them. however my second time round i have not got them and i agree... better without for looks
  6. :D sorry to be a saddo. even though i am only 23 i don't drink. My wife is 34 and because i don't drink much nor does she. i used to be a big gin and juice drinker and now i probably have a glass once a year :) I remember having 75% Russian vodka before and it only touched my lips and it started burning hehehe. But I might drink some this holiday (mildly). It’s not that I am a non drinker it’s just when I passed my driving lesson I started being sober more so I could drive more. Eventually I got a bit over controlling and even if I plan to drink and not drive I can’t help but still have that controlling feeling. I will try to have some more gin and orange juice and relax. :) however i will never handle 100%
  7. unfortunately we done it ourselves instead of a package. everything has been done individually. WHat is this Stavros Flatley? i will have to keep an eye out but as we didn't do package holiday we will most likely miss all the things like that
  8. bit harsh  but i know how you feel.. all of my friends and co workers went on holiday whilst i am stuck in this office.... my turn :xxx:
  9. first 2 days in a standard apartment in crete (elounda) then a ferry to santorini for 2 nights (suite- private balcony high up on the cliff edge and rooms carved out of the rock. watch the sunset hehehehe) then back to crete for a 4 night stay at the Ibero star Mirrabello (5star all the way here) private pool and hammocks..... hammock sold it for me really. will rent a car for the 6 days in crete and a motorbike for the 2 days in santorini. only booked it last week lol.... been a bit manic. especially with the car MOT due as soon as i am back
  10. anyway need to get that off my mind and go to my holiday now.... take care and ill check up either when i am back or when i am on holiday. Taking PSP so can surf the net and check my cameras by remote play :-)
  11. just to add.. If i had boost jets and were still low on boost that would indicate a HUGE leak wouldn't it? Trouble is i heard a bost leak that big would be heard on normal driving aswell and would run like a bag of spanners..... I have two bits of piping coming from the big pipes at the front (inlet i think) these then go into the T section (metal) and do not connect into anything else. looks like wastegate and ecu wastegate solenoid are both unconnected. Only thing is... surely with the wastegates vacuums unplugged i would be over boosting to oblivion, and well...... i'm not
  12. I'm off on my holiday now :hyper: going to soak up the sun and get in with the culture of the greeks. will post some piccies with my new SLR on my return  take care people
  13. thanks for all the input. took boost jets out and unfortunately it still does it
  14. sounds good matey. i am back on the 12th so any day after that is good. You will get to meet santa too if he is around so lets wait till after the 12th and we can book it in with santa aswell so that we are all available. :) :)
  15. it is hard to say. The safety boost is just what the reading is looking like. but it does drop off. i'll try to explain better. Start car (idles fine) let car warm up. go to A130 or any road more than 60. Put the pedal right down, the auto box kixks down and the turbo needle works its way up to whatever boost it is on. After the needle is at the furthest it will go the engine will keep accelerating until about 4-5 seconds (still got pedal all the way down) all of a sudden the car jumps as if the car stops pulling for a second. looking at the turbo needle the gauge drops down a little when this happens. If i keep the foot on the floor still the turbo gauge will start to grow again to the same point and do the same. It is like a boost pressure loss however when thinking about it the scenario would also be the same if the engine is missing... if i was to take my foot off the pedal for a second the gauge does the same thing.... this makes it hard to tell if it is engine or boost problems. But generally the coils work, Injectors work, When not boosting to full the car is not lumpy and runs sweet. can't tell if it is engine related, Wastegate related, (hence my post about the piping not put back properly after taking ebc out) vacuum related or electrical. ALthough the car is now running the same levels as safety boost it is smoother and more respinsive than when boost jets were in. My old zed went on safety boost before but it never caused the second long power loss/hesitation. I am on holiday tonight however it would be good if someone can come and meet me and santa to see what happens and get a feel for some opinions. :-)
  16. just found this http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=98790&referrerid=11424 woo hoo.... atleast i can see SOME history................
  17. Well i don't think i am going to get an error code. previous to the boost jets coming out i was running safety boost levels and i had no errors (basic diagnostic) and also no errors on conzult. we tightened up some hoses and adjusted the idle using the aid of ecu talk to see the voltage and we started getting full standard boost so next we thought that maybe i had a leak. took it for another spin but i still get a pressure drop at high revs if using full boost for longer than 5 seconds. So next we thought those dodgy boost jets are the problem especially considering one boost jet had a hole bigger than the other. So we removed these and got some pipe connector and now the system is normal (ish) we went for a run and now we get safety boost again and the car actually runs better however i still get the boost pressure loss under full load. santa... can you help explain more than me? :-) anyway as i had no errors in the first place i still dont think taking the boost jets out are gonna give me any new errors. Our belief is the wastegate solenoid is not connected properly after the boost controller was taken out. However it could also be that it is not a boost problem and the guy sold it because he was worried it is completely broken. I just can't get my head around why it looses pressure under full throttle after 5 seconds. Can't hear any boost leaks and head gasket is fine. other possabilites are: ECU. he mentioned it was upgraded to stage 1 (whatever that means) and maybe it is faulty Speedo conversion: my mileage and trip stopped working and so maybe this is related to the clocks and the engine problem boost leak: maybe there is a boost leak small enough to not be noticed for normal driving but gies on high loads of boost. I will get some video's going aswell because unless you are in or near the car it is hard to explain
  18. the last guy who had it i think. MrSufc
  19. Yeah i will take a picture on my return. i think if we get some ideas what else it could be i can make a list of things to check
  20. don't be shy anyone .. take a guess
  21. yeah was frying the steak for my wife and the pan started slipping off the top........... silly handle design only has grip half way up so when i caught the handle i caught the metal part :slap:
  22. thought i would use my newly acquired SLR camera ... holiday and editorial photo's are gonna rock :D anyway these boost jets that were in the car when i bought it are finally out................... SHOCKING!!!!!!!!!!:mac1: after i took these out and replaced them with some piping connectors santa and myself went for a spin. now the car goes to safety boost only. It still has the engine missing at high revs so now we are thinking that when the boost controller was taken out the wastegate solenoid was not connected properly, would you lot all agree this is the case? Me and santa are worried because surely with safety boost i should not be experiencing the major engine missing???? we will try to see what needs reconnecting next time however i would also like to add..... even though i am on safety boost the car generally runs better. does not stall....... Actually feels quicker boosting.......... and seems alot smoother in general (less lumpy) santa can confirm what others might not understand (my writing) either way... i am a step closer and the car runs better... now to find out what could be causing the missing is there anything i have missed santa? maybe my ecu needs changing or it it the speedo conversion?
  23. OMG that was VERY helpful... just what i needed... except now i am trying to figure out if thsi causes the problem.. one of the pipes goes from the top left section of the T and the other pipe from the right side of the T goes back round into the bottom section of the T. i am not boosting unlimited boost however this clearly must be a cause of some problems if it is not wired in properly. basically that T section is not wired up to anything but itself..... ohhh errrr misses
  24. although at the moment the engine bay and silicone pipes are still red :-( the last chap got an respray but not the engine bay :-(
