  1. also.... if i change to manual what what happen to my existing turbos? would i have to upgrade turbos as the auto turbos are smaller and spool up sooner?
  2. Ok, as my car has some faults that need sorting and the gearbox could possibly be dieing aswell i had some thinking today and some conversations with my wife. I was explaining how i would like to take the car off the road and fix the auto gearbox or make it manual. Whilst i mentioned that we agreed that as i wanted to rebuild the engine next year anyway i might aswell rebuild that at the same time. So after we both finally made some agreements the new project could be starting anytime soon..... The plan will be to take the engine out of the car and store the car somewhere. I only have a standard size garage so i don't think i will be able to fit the car and the standalone engine in together. Obviously i cannot leave the car outside due to tax and declaring it SORN. does someone have a rough guie with the engine? I am going to be using this time to learn my engine through and through at the same time. Obviously i will need to find somewhere to store the car in chelmsford but i better look at finding a second hand engine stand and puller (hopefully a forum member can help me pull the engine onto the engine stand. what would i need to do to the cars body and wheel to protect them from corosion etc whilst being left to stand for a year or so? any links or info that would come in handy for this project would be greatfully appreciated :D
  3. ahh ok so that is one relief.... well now to find out why it hates changing into 3rd soon
  4. cheers matey :-) i am going to perform a gearbox diagnostic in an hour after i finish the house work.
  5. also there is no clunking or grinding sounds of any sort
  6. also what diagnostic problem is 15 flashes?
  7. as you all know i have a boosting problem (atleast i think it is) however i have noticed that on every start up i get the power light flash 15 times. when driving i have noticed that third will only come in if the revs are fairly high. Fourth (overdrive) is fine .......... so far i have also tried counting the gears yesterday and i swear on numerous occasions it felt like i got 5th????! now obviously this is not fifth so something must be slipping when i bought the car it had an aftermarket gear shifter without the overdrive button..... i did find kind of think this was odd but i had presumed the older owner did not know about preserving the gear box by leaving over drive off through towns or when changing gears alot and to only use it when cruising at a constant speed. Now that i have access to the overdrive button i have noticed that if i do 70 with overdrive on and i turn it off the car will go into 3rd........... however the car vibrates like mad when done so. now i am starting to realise why the old owner sold car the car and why he hid the problem... anyway what i am trying to get at is below: my @BOOSTING@ problem that causes the car to stop pulling for a second when flooring it does seem to happen just before it goes into third is this coincidence or could this box be the symptom of my hesistation? either way i need my boost solenoids reconnected to be sure but now i am thinking i was sold a car with a dieing gearbox
  8. heres to hoping you get it fixed and back on the road soon fella! :D
  9. oh come on.............. my other post has been bumped so many damn times...... someone MUST have enough knowledge on this topic? No one on here has done the boost solenoids themselves? or are you trying to get me to pay god knows how much to have it taken to an expensive garage? Santa and i would like to do this however it would be very greatful if someone has some info on the best way to do this! thankyou
  10. Various comments on various sites regarding boost solenoids and hesitation under high speed/boost Comment 1 i had this problem 1 day after tinkering with the engine in my 2001 classic. was like hitting a brick wall at about 4000rpm. i sh*t myself! i checked all the boost pipes for leaks when i got home, turned out i had knocked the bottom pipe off the boost solenoid, oopsie! Re-fitted the pipe, prob solved. i would check all the boost pipes. Comment 2 I don't have any boost problems taking it of the bcs. First thing to check is boost leak. Might worth trying the car without the dv as they can be a problem. A doddy boost solenoid could cause boost issue also and is a cheap remedy. Comment 3 Fixed it last night. As per Turconator, I replaced both the fuel injector relay and fuel pump relay, checked the cap, rotor, distributor, fixed a few vacuum lines--most notably, the wastegate vacuum line to the boost control solenoid and the carbon filtration purge valve vacuum line going to the canister. Just for fun I ran some seafoam through the vacuum tree, buttoned the car up and went for a nice drive. No problems, and the car runs like a champ Comment 4 (very similar to mine) Accelerating on WOT, any gear, the car pulls then slows as if I've backed off a touch, then pulls, then backs off, etc. Still pulls to redline. No apparent misfire or strange noises. No warning lights. Reply: The boost solenoid is in front of the drivers side strutt under a small cover. Do a quick search on here for hot to clean it, it only takes about 20 mins to do. Its possible you may have some dirt in it and this can cause the problem your experiancing, its the cheapest and easiest option to go for first. So.......... how do i get to these boost solenoids? what is the easiest way so that santa and i can tackle this? looks like one side will be easier than the other but the passengers side of the engine has idle pipes in the way etc. apparently these will break when i take them off to get the the boost solenoids. Is there another way to get to these i.e under the car, etc and if not how can i take off the pipes easily without breaking them? cheers
  11. i liked, leave me alone, bad smooth criminal man in the mirror thriller beat it one of my alltime favourites (even though a fairly short song from what i remember) is Speed Demon
  12. back on topic................ asda selling at £99 is very good (shame it is for arcade) but it is still a deal, steal, sale of the F***ing century! if you are after one of these then get one asap :-). might get my mate one of these whilst they go cheap for his birthday so he can play halo with me
  13. didn't realise how much i wrote
  14. WARNING!!!!!! READ THIS IS YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE SLEEPING! well for me the PS3 has been my backbone in entertainment this generation. Last generation I preferred the Xbox simply because it’s simplicity and even though internet gaming costs it was very simple to set up unlike ps2 which required additional parts and fuss.xbox had Great games like Project Gotham and of course halo 1+2. Times went on and I got myself a Xbox 360. Again simple to use and still has some Microsoft charms. When wedding was near my wife got me the PS3 on release date (expensive I know) for my engagament present :) and even though my wife payed to be honest I personally don’t mind paying that for a console of any type aslong as it interests me. I use the PS3 all the time compared to my XBOX. Features I always use which are either not on xbox or harder to implement are: Card Reader – Fair enough only premiums like mine get the card readers but they are a godsend. I can back up my PS3 onto removable cards and whenever I use my Digital SLR I can insert whatever card into the PS3 and download all of them in a very short time. This is very handy for me as we often do group social activities and at the end of the day we can view them on a 42” LCD in seconds and watch to our amusement. Blue ray - Great for more space which a lot of games have not used yet (final fantasy 13 will most likely use a lot of that) the real feature that sells it to me is the fact that unlike a LOT of blue ray players the PS3’s Blue ray is forward compatible and quite often get updates that implement new features that do not exist on home players. Very expensive (and I mean expensive) players often have internet connection for updates. Remote play (psp needed – which I also have for holidays etc) - This is one of my favourite features of the PS3. I often go out and about on long trips i.e. holidays, meetings and stay in hotels (with wifi) and the great thing about this is a practically have my PS3 with me anywhere I go. With remote play I can turn on my ps3 from anywhere (with wifi) and view the PS3 screen (which shows on the TV screen) through the Psp. It is clear and precise and I can access all of my photos , movies and videos and view them streamed to my PSP. I can also contact my ps3 mates and speak to them and I can also leave a long playing game (final fantasy 7,8,9) in the disc tray and play that over stream or any play station games that I downloaded to PS3 - Whilst I am playing over the remote play if there are any new demo’s or games, video’s etc I can get my ps3 to download these whilst I am holiday and install these too. I often leave the camera on a view of the cat’s bed (make sure she is ok) or a view of the weather outside and I can access the camera from my psp whilst abroad etc. once I have finished I can simply ask the PS3 to turn off. Media Server - Another big thing for me is to not have to move the laptop or have cables around the house to access media I have downloaded. I quite often see my friends buying media box’s that stream their movies etc to their TV that they have downloaded. These sell like hotcakes in PC world etc and are taking the world by storm as they are very simple to set up and save a lot of aggro. The PS3 has again got this covered. On my PC I have a program called TVersity which is a media server program and very easy to use. - I simply make a library of media that I have on my pc and press the stream button. The PS3 has a media server option on the main menu and will search for media servers on your home network. Very easy to setup and now I wirelessly stream any movies, songs or pictures that I download on my PC upstairs to the PS3 downstairs and it works Brilliantly. I run a 24/7 server so I can even access the PC files from my PS3 through to my PSP on the go. Games - granted the PS3 does not have as many exclusives but can be just as fun as my 360. Yes the Xbox is a cheaper console but to be honest with the amount of features that the PS3 has for me personally it was worth the money. Having to buy the controller chargers, Wireless network receivers HD DVD drives, and the motion sensor soon to be released (which will add more money to the XBOX list) I have not spent that much less on my Xbox 360 than I have on my PS3. - the good thing about Xbox is that if you are strapped for cash you can altleast take the basic system home and get other parts later instead of paying one lump sum. My Personal feelings with the PS3 - Yes I agree people have their own feelings regarding the two systems but for me personally I find myself leaning towards the PS3. I do however agree both of them have their strength and with XBOX getting more exclusives I believe Xbox 360 (even wii) are the more hardcore gamer machines, however I see the PS3 as the grown up system. - It does still have a few great games (albeit not enough compared to Xbox) so it can be a very good gaming machine when it wants. However for me I love the fact that it is not just a gamer machine and that it does so so so much more. Technical specs are arguable and both give very good grunt however I like my machines to do a bit of everything. Usually I would say jack of all trades master of none however the PS3 really has got itself a good setup and abilities and when asked to play a hardcore game it still does this almost as good as the Xbox. However even though you can spend very similar amounts on both machines I find that I have saved myself even more money with not having to buy a TV media box. Whilst many of the features I wrote above may not be used by your average casual user I use them a lot and I ALLWAYS impress others when I show these in person. In short - Buy whatever you feel comfortable with. I would say if you only want to do gaming then get a 360 for that dedicated gaming need. However if you want a machine that can also handle great games (when they come out) but still want a media HUB for all your real life uses (something that appeals to most adults of all ages nowdays). Or you want to show off all these features then get a PS3…… or if you are loaded get them both :) Unfortunately do not end up like me as I cannot help myself when it comes to consoles and computers and I find myself blowing money upgrading PC often and getting consoles…….. really hoping there is a while before a new console because my wife gets annoyed when they come out……………… “there is ALLWAYS something you want” she says. I have made a point at not getting any new gadgets this year. Except the new iphone 3gs which I already got… but I really have my eye set on a new mac ………. >. Maybe I should sell these and treat my car to some parts??? My procession so far (I’m obsessed) - 1 powerful custom built (by myself ) pc, - 3 laptops, two of which are gaming laptops (not so much for the games but for the power that these have for my media editing programs) - PS3 - PS2 - PS2 Lite (smaller version) - PS1 (still have it) hehe - Psone (the newer smaller version) - PSP. (soon to get the psp3000 as screen is harder to see on mine in the sun) - Xbox - Xbox 360 - Wii (only for the wii fit) - Unfortunately I was not alive any earlier to try the old commodores etc but my first system ever (which I don’t have anymore) is the Sega master system. I often find myself saying the bit out of lee evans stand up shows……….. “OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH …… I LOVE ME GADGETS”
  15. pfffft......... you wish
  16. bump............. i would have thought atleast 1 person has knowledge of their own car. The amount of people who claim to be pros on here..... surely i am not the only one who has had this problem and surely someone must know how to reconnect the wastegate actuator pipes? please can someone on this forum be so kind as to provide info or a guide (i cannot find one myself) so that myself and santa (another forum member) can do this "soon"?
  17. just read that type S is not recommended for twin turbo on the aus300zx site and various other sites.
  18. where do i get one of these from? would like to buy off this nice fella hastings however would like to get it in asap. where can i find this t piece?
  19. bump.......... again sorry to be a pain however santa and i are going to tackle this soon but would like some direction as to how to reconnect wastegate pipe thingies and the best way of doing it as (ofcourse) the engien is tight. please can we get help regarding this issue or is it that no one on this forum knows how?
  20. can someone help me with a boost leak test? santa my good old chum has the boost leak tester but not a compressor. can anyone help? please :0(
  21. true but if that was the cas and i still had foot on the pedal the boost gauge wouldnt drop half way into the - (negative) it is definately a miss or a leak.... like on my other posts santa has seen both of my actuator pipes are undone where the old member took off the boost controler and left it. drives fine but under full boost the car stopps pulling for a second and then the boost builds up to full again . the only thing that causes me to worry is that other people who had their wastegate connectors off (with no EBC) didnt seem to have this problem... yet my plugs are new and fine, injectors and coil packs are fine and maf and PTU are fine. can't tell if it is a leak or a miss however even though santa says it is the wastegate pipes seeing other people in same situation have not confirmed having the same symptoms ... so now i wonder what else it could be
  22. did you get this sorted? exact same problem to mine
  23. bump...... 1. didn't realise the boost solenoids (when unclipped) can cause this problem 2, whats easiest way to reconnect them? a bit tight to do by hand
