  1. Tony, yes it's only happened once when I just moved the car a few yards and it smoked when I started it again 20 mins later. When warmed up not a puff though, so not a prob as yet. Had the horn go off non stop last night, it's got an old Momo steering wheel and the wiring broke inside the column, took 10 mins to shut it up! Quite embarrassing lol, one couple stopped tought I was having a heart attack! All sorted now though. Had the car on a four poster today, couldn't see any play in any of the bushes and joints though, but rear nearside damper seems a bit weak. Wonder if that would cause the rear end skip? Was told there was an autobox cooler fitted, but from what I can see it still has the stock cooler up the side of rad? I think things went down hill a bit after you sold it Tony! Someone sold the targa bags and floor mats, drivers window doesn't work, mirrors don't work, ciggy lighter has been ripped out and broken surround. Hopefully all be fixed next week though. The MOT runs out in a couple weeks, do you know if there's any wiring for a rear fog light? Couldn't see any trace of it or even find a switch somewhere? Thanks for your help, you know the car better than anyone! It certainly goes well, about half as quick again as my last yellow Z!! Just about holds traction in first gear with boost controller off! Cheers, Trev.
  2. Thanks, and Legrath and Anna :)
  3. Thanks for all replies, can't stop now as have to be out 5 minutes ago lol but briefly yes I'm from Burnham and used to have the yellow Z. I'll post a link to my Rex soon. Thanks for the info Tony, had some light grey smoke from right tailpipe today as per cona2k's post, bumped into PaulSWZ who saw me parked on side of road (very helpfull thanks for stopping) and we think prob turbo seal. Trev.
  4. Hi everyone, been a while but after having two RX-7's I'm back in a Z and lovin it :) I've got Tonyc's black shorty, bought it from cona2k on Saturday. Had some problems so took it to Protech in Nailsea. The water leak turned out to be a short heater matrix hose which had split. Also had a misfire which they cured by cleaning the coil packs and other connectors. Now it goes like stink! Just about holds traction in first gear, raise the boost slightly and it spins and wants to go sideways! Tony I hope you read this as I wondered if you could shed some light on a couple of problems please? Firstly do you know what ECU it's got? Did you fit the boost contoller as turned off it boosts at .7 bar and I wondered if it's been mapped to handle more boost or not? Secondly, the Hicas light comes on after a few miles and stays on. Any ideas on that? Thirdly, the car skips to the left when going over potholes, wondered if you have any idea on what's been done suspension/bushes wise or what might need doing? Fourthly, braking hard from about 100 the car shudders badly, I think if I cure the skipping problem that may cure the braking shudder at the same time as the discs look nearly new. Anyway, any info appreciated Tony. Anyone want to buy a silver RX-7 type R, '92 30k miles since rebuild, basic mods 0-60 about 4.5sec, serviced every 3k and no faults. Will be appearing on ebay in the next week or so. :duffer:

  6. Sorry if this has been posted already, but I couldn't see it anywhere. Please click the link below to read and perhaps sign the official petition calling for the scrapping of all speed cameras, in the name of road safety. It's only been going since Thursday 8th Feb and is already in the top 16 out of nearly 3000 petitions! http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/scrapcam/ If you believe cameras are beneficial or are undecided, take a look at Paul Smith's excellent work at http://www.safespeed.org.uk :)
  7. The Government is serious about tracking our cars at all times, and charging us based on the time of day, type of road and location. Be scared because it is very real!! It's not planned to come into effect for several years though, but trials will be starting soon in the Midlands. It's being called Labour's Poll Tax, because there will be massive demonstrations which are already in the pipeline. Anyone who wants to keep up to date should take a look around Pistonheads, but you need to join to see forum 'speed plod & the law' . http://www.pistonheads.com
  8. But Si, you're misunderstanding! If we have both smoking and non smoking pubs, both of us can make the choice as to which one we want to drink in. You won't have to suffer any smoke at all, and I can breath all the smoke I want to. I would only be affecting you if I was selfish enough to light up in a non smoking pub, for which I would be fined and ejected. How am I affecting your freedom of choice? Surely I'm not at all? On the other hand, if we make all pubs non smoking, I don't get any choice. How can that be necessary, right and fair?
  9. There's alot of you who support a ban and I respect your choice, but do you not believe in freedom of choice for everyone? Because you personally dislike smoking, everyone who enjoys it should suffer a ban? It doesn't have to be all or nothing. This isn't about smoking for me, it's about freedom of choice. I believe we should have smoking and non smoking pubs and choose which ones we want to drink in. Simple and fair! Infact what could be fairer? Is it fair to ram your preferences down the throats of others who disagree with your choice? Would you all believe me if I said I didn't smoke? It's not right for politicians to force landlords to impose a ban on a legal activity. It's the thin end of the wedge that will lead to unfair restrictions on all the things we enjoy.
  10. Just to add that the smoking ban won't apply to the house of commons (duty free) bars anyway. How hypocritical is that! Politicians voted the ban in, for everyone except themselves!!!
  11. Please take a look at this online petition to the Prime Minister (link below) and sign if you agree. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/repeal-the-ban/ Please email the link to anyone who may be interested!
  12. It's simple: 235/45x17 = 235x45% = 105.75 side wall. 255/40x17 = 255x40% = 102.00 side wall. If you had 235/40's on the front the side wall would be 94.00 (too small) :)
  13. Ask them if they're made by 'megan racing' from the U.S., if yes they are high quality and good fit.
  14. Hovis that was hard luck, must have been ready to blow anyway tho. Matz, deffo decat, what's the point of having a performance car then throwing a spanner in the works to make it slower. Nasty, power robbing, heavy useless lumps, get rid! My last Z (1990 TT) was decatted when I bought it, drove it for two years with no probs. I decatted the Rx7 myself and the power gain was amazing, so much more responsive, had to fit a boost controller tho to control the over boosting (don't think you'll have that problem with a Z).
  15. From what I've heard the spray stuff doesn't work. I don't think gatso's are a big problem anyway, they're big and yellow after all. Dont ya think it's the sneaky speed camera partnerships that park their vans in lay-bys, bus stops, motorway bridges etc that are the main threat to us? Eyes peeled and a garage door opener like Billynomates is best defence, next to blowing the bstads up.
  16. I could see you'd changed the rubber by the way you flew round the Walrow round-about ummm rather swiftly. 1st time I've followed a Z at night, those rear lights look great, my yellow Z had twin round lights so not seen them before, didn't know what it was 'till I recognised the number plate. I sold the black Rx ages ago and bought a silver one about two wks later (pic below hopefully), had it about a year now, nearly time for a change, wouldn't mind a SWB TT in silver :) and get back to some comfort, the ride is shatteringly hard in the rex with virtually no suspension lol. (Oh it won't let me post pics anymore, membership expired)
  17. I was behind you tonight from Brent Knoll to Pawlett in a silver RX-7, did you know it was me? You've obviously changed the jap rubber you were rolling on last time I saw you! Gotta say it's a nice change to have a burn with someone who can drive proper, that Z shifts, what mods have you done it can't be stock I know that!
  18. Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has any idea how much a clutch and cambelt change (done at the same time) should be from a Nissan dealer, for a vanette cargo? Cheers,
  19. That's been edited by the beeb to make the copper look bad. Here's another showing the whole episode: http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/video/view_broadband/94.html I could see two kicks to the bol0x that didn't appear unreasonable to me. What's wrong with banging his head on the van door as he gets thrown in the van anyway? My god if you're gonna get pissd and vandalise things (and you happen to have the strength of a rino) why on earth should you expect to be treated with respect by the police?!
  20. There's now a video link on this BBC link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/3506409.stm
  21. The guy was built like a brick shithouse and trained to fight, who would want to try restraining an animal like that. Even a handfull for four coppers. The best place to aim your kick and sedate the animal is in the *****x and that's what he got I believe. I haven't seen the video so dont know what happened after that, but all seems fair upto that point atleast. If he had been wearing white skin there would be none of this publicity. He's trying his luck and playing the black victim role.
  22. Not much interest here then! m0n1, good point, as you probably know nodding off at the wheel does cause quite alot of motorway accidents, especially speed restricted trucks. Must be a nitemare trying to stay alert from London to Scotland all night at 56mph!
  23. There's a controversial thread on Pistonheads about the effectiveness of speed cameras at motorway roadworks, are they just cashing in or do they reduce accidents? Thought some peeps here might be interested so I've pasted it below: Author Discussion safespeed 03:17 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Following a recent Freedom of Information request, and a careful review of the materials supplied, Safe Speed issued the following PR at 02:52 this morning: PR228: TRL says speed cameras useless at motorway roadworks News: for immediate release Safe Speed issued a Freedom of Information request to the DfT on July 5th regarding motorway roadworks safety. The results have just been published. One document makes it crystal clear that speed cameras have no influence on the rate of injury. In a study carried out for the Highways Agency by TRL Limited and published in 2004 it is revealed that roads works are no more dangerous than open motorways and that speed cameras have no effect on accident rates. Paul Smith, founder of the Safe Speed road safety campaign (http://www.safespeed.org.uk) said: "When this sort of information is available, why are camera partnerships allowed to continue to fleece motorists with no safety benefit?" "It is outrageous that partnerships continue to operate speed cameras in motorway roadworks claiming that they are required to 'protect the workforce', when science clearly tells us that motorway road works are not specially dangerous and speed cameras don't help at all." "The greedy camera partnerships frequently lie to us about the 'benefits' of speed cameras. False information in road safety costs lives because it causes life saving resources are misallocated. The partnerships must be disbanded because they are working against the long term interests of road safety. They are 21st century snake oil salesmen." "Why on earth does it take the Freedom of Information act to uncover important information like this?" TRL Report says: "The study showed that there was no significant difference in the rate of PIAs (Personal Injury Accidents) when road works were present on the motorway." TRL Report says: "No significant difference was observed in the PIA rate for sites with and without speed cameras." Notes for editors: ================== DfT Page regarding Safe Speed's Freedom of Information Request: http://www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_foi/documents/divisionhomepage/039530.hcsp TRL Report summary containing quotes above: http://www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_foi/documents/page/dft_foi_039535.pdf puggit 08:41 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That is a bombshell! I think most of us would agree that speed limits are valid in roadworks, and that the cameras are there to enforce safety. Normally short thrift is given to those coming on this forum and bleating about being caught in the roadworks... However, the recent move to 40mph limits rigourously enforced, compared to the historic 50mph limits with erratic enforcement, has always smelt fishy. Don 08:54 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The salient point of the report is that accident rates are no worse in motorway roadworks than they are on the rest of the motorway now...and that there is a only tiny difference in Fatal and Serious Injury accidents at roadworks equipped with cameras (1%). This would appear to me not to be statistically significant. But could this be because most drivers now drive through roadworks slowly and carefully anyway because they know that in such locations it is likely that there will be workers at risk? Or even, for those who don't give a shit about workers, that it is likely that there will be cameras? Whilst I drive with the same amount of care at all times I do drive purposely within the speed limit in areas I consider "risky" (with respect to detection) and purposely much higher than the speed limit in areas I consider "safe" (both in absolute terms and in terms of detection). This means I drive through roadworks at the speed limit checking carefully for both workers and cameras happy in the knowledge I will not be contributing to the scamerati's Christmas party fund... safespeed 09:10 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don said:The salient point of the report is that accident rates are no worse in motorway roadworks than they are on the rest of the motorway now...and that there is a only tiny difference in Fatal and Serious Injury accidents at roadworks equipped with cameras (1%). This would appear to me not to be statistically significant. Damn right it isn't significant, and very oddly, that's a comparison with open motorway. Why didn't they compare it with roadworks with no camera I wonder? Could it be that crashes are slighty up compared to roadworks with no cameras? It'll cost us £40 to buy the full report and find out. Meanwhile tens of thousands of us are being fleeced at roadworks around the motorway network. timtonal 09:34 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think crashes will be up due to the clumps of speedo-watching motorists across the 3 lanes. Especially alarming yesterday was the HGV edging along my inside whilst I was doing an indicated 42mph. M6 Thelwall had a similar scheme (not been up that way for some time so don't know if its still going on). I kept hearing of lots of accidents happening - not a good advert for SPECS. Also why has the M1 J21-20 roadworks 40 limit been extended by a couple of miles southbound due to the hard shoulder being coned off but nobody working on it? There are gantries for SPECS but no cameras, yet. I appreciate that this stretch is next to be resurfaced, but surely limit it when the works start, not several weeks in advance. Bad management through and through. safespeed 12:18 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Further PR issued at 11:33 this morning: PR229: Motorway road works speed cameras: legalised extortion News: for immediate release Following Safe Speed's revelations earlier today that motorway road works speed cameras do nothing to improve safety, motorists will be absolutely livid to learn that they have been fined for no safety benefit. The TRL report stating with absolute clarity that speed cameras do NOTHING to improve road works safety on motorways was completed over 18 months ago. The Highways agency did not make it public and continued to slap up speed cameras at motorway roadworks sites. Any member of the public wishing to read the report would have had to pay £40 to do so. Not even a summary has been previously published as far as we can tell. It took a request under the Freedom of Information Act to dig it up. Paul Smith, founder of the Safe Speed road safety campaign (http://www.safespeed.org.uk) said: "Hundreds of thousands of motorists who have been fined for exceeding the speed limit in roadworks in the last 18 months are going to be livid. The Highways Agency knew that cameras did nothing for safety - all they have been doing is spreading misery and raising revenue. These cameras are legalised extortion - no more and no less." "This has to stop and it has to stop now. Speed cameras do nothing for safety. The official claims are bunk. But far worse than that, those claims cause live-saving resources to be misallocated and cause extra deaths indirectly." "How dare they keep this information hidden for 18 months. Since the Freedom of Information Act came into force the wheels are coming off the speed camera bandwagon. The abuses of information are outrageous and heads must roll." Notes for editors: ================== Safe Speed PR issued earlier today: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SafeSpeedPR/message/76 Includes reference to TRL report which includes: "The study showed that there was no significant difference in the rate of PIAs (Personal Injury Accidents) when road works were present on the motorway." "No significant difference was observed in the PIA rate for sites with and without speed cameras." ======================================== I've had little pickup on either PR so far (which isn't really surprising on a Sunday). But if anyone has any press or broadcasting contacts AT ALL please send them these two links: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SafeSpeedPR/message/76 http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SafeSpeedPR/message/77 turbobloke 14:20 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hmmmm. About the same time this report became available to the authorities, there was a noticeable increase in interactive driver signals in some motorway roadworks sections - one stretch on the M5 that used to have four or five gatsos changed to one gatso and two or three IDS. Regrettably there are still sections with specs cameras (M1, M40), these purely revenue raising instruments of driver oppression should be removed immediately. So it has been shown that m-way roadwork cameras have no safety benefit - which just brings us back to Canada's decision to throw out all forms of automated speed enforcement (photo radar) in two provinces because - it had no safety benefit - it was propped up only by a well funded spin machine - it was arbitrary and heavy handed - it was a symptom of intrusive big government - it harmed police-public relations - recruitment and witness cooperation were hit - better and more cost-effective approaches are available (our TRL has already shown that IDS have greater safety benefits than speedcams) Same old over here

  25. Gutting to see that - there's some jealous bstads about. I would wait a few days till u've calmed down then get a quote from the bodyshop and find out the bad news. My car was attacked with paint stripper a couple months ago so I know how you feel. There's not much you can do about these tssers but try and find out who it was , they might do it again as already said, then find out where they live.
