  1. Ahh bookies :-) interesting job, so which one d'you work for? Didnt most of the phone / internet bookies operate from abroad ( Gibralta?) up untill 2 years ago when they scrapped the tax here? I think SJ still do partly. Any tips welcome btw.. Sorry Im no help, just curious.
  2. Wont see the misses for 4-5 days on the trot... hmmm could be a good thing :-) Nah, if they're gonna go 24 hrs , unless you can pick your shifts I think you're gonna have to grin and bear it unfortunately mate. It's better than them farming the work out to India or something I guess.
  3. Yeah, chatroom's an excellent idea, would luv to see it but dont know anything about the technical difficulty?
  4. I know what you're saying Gio and I do stick to 30 in built up areas , less in housing estates. But it matters because on wide open roads with ridiculous 30 limits... nah i cant do it, crawling along like a snail for no sensible or logical reason! I think all roads bar motorways will eventually be reduced to 20 or 30, then they'll smack a toll on all motorways, they must have some devious plan like that to be reducing all the limits. I personally dont think concentrating more effort on speed enforcement is the answer to reducing death rates on uk roads, which were up last year despite the £millions the camera partnerships raked in from ppl driving safely who never caused an accident or came anywhere near to doing so. Still, I'm wasting my breath I know, most ppl will quite happily fall in line it seems ;-)
  5. But what if you live in an area that has over zealous do-gooder councilors lowering speed limits to 20 or 30mph on roads that have always been national speed limit? This happened on a stretch of A38 near me and ofcourse most drivers ignore the 30 and risk getting points from the scamera operaters who prey on that stretch. There's been more accidents too as it encourages aggression and forced overtaking of the few that stick to the 30. End result is they are now scrapping the 30 and going back to how it was! Shame about the total waste of 100k + in signs, paint-chevrons/white lines/red lines, red tarmac, green tarmac, cameras and all their time spent planning it. tssers. I can think of dozens of new 30 limits on country roads where it's safe to do 60. Likewise I can think of dozens of 30 limits in housing estates where you wouldnt want to exceed 20. So saying 30 in a 30 and no more, doesnt make any sense to me srry :-)
  6. No, but unfort' Labour have plans to charge us for declaring SORN, but not 'till after the election ofcourse..
  7. They're just infront you mate, see em? U must hav used em to type that :-)
  8. On the subject of road tax, did you know our Labour govt are planning a new tax for us motorists called registration tax. It will apply to all cars including disabled drivers, pre 1973 classics and those declared SORN. The expected fee is £4.50 , but thats just to get their foot in the door. It's expected they'll then abolish road tax and add the cost onto fuel tax, which they're under pressure to do as it's seen as a fairer system. BUT guess what... they'll then raise the fee for the new registration tax year on year!! So we end with higher fuel tax AND still have road tax but collected under a new name! There's loads more nasties Labour are lining up for us too.
  9. Was that your Z , today (sun) about 4.30 , I was behind in Rx7. You turned left at Dunball roundabout where I passed, couldnt let you out when you indicated as was booting it in 2nd, srry lol. Z looks good btw :-)
  10. We have to expect this kinda crap under a labour government, thousands of civil servants jobs are created just to think up new rules and regulations. Nice hunting idea Rich :-)
  11. Funny, alot of you guys will quite happily drive 100mph + (lol more like 150) wantonly breaking the law, but when it comes to alcohol suddenly become very self righteous!.. the taboo of drink driving. Im very strongly against drunk driving but drink driving - 1 or 2 pints concentrates you to drive carefully and deliberate these days partly for fear of being stopped and partly because you know you've had a pint as Nelson said. I personally never touch even a drop and drive, but I know alot of ppl who live in the countryside and do have 1 or 2 and am absolutely sure they have less chance of causing an accident than the sober guy speeding home from the pub through a built up area. I vote for stay the same, I think anyone voting for less is either emotionally biased or brain washed by all the adverts aimed at drunk driving.
  12. Cheers Mark, yeah had the rx about a month now. Thats the trouble, 80-90% of ppl dont want scamera partnerships and all the crazy lowering of speed limits , but will still vote the lab tssrs back in! It's gonna get alot worse if they get back in, they're planning on scrapping the way speed limits are set (using 85th percentile) and replacing it with mean average speed limits, which work out to be alot lower and would be exceeded by 50% of drivers! Loads of revenue! Agree with your maternity points, Brown thinks its a vote winner.
  13. The point is the governments and do-gooders obsession with speed limits and cameras is not working with regard to lowering fatalities on UK roads and that's a fact. All they achieve is to raise revenue by convicting safe drivers. As the safety camera partnerships are growing, the numbers of traffic police are being cut, meanwhile the death toll on the roads is now rising after years of falls. No wonder when now ppl can drive un-licensed, drunk, drugged, dangerously tailgating or whatever, aslong as they dont exceed the speed limit they have little chance of being caught and no chance at all by a safety camera partnership! The governments policy is 'The medicine isn't working so lets increase the dose' rather than change the medicine! More reduced speed limits, cameras and higher death tolls to come , unless we can get Blairs lot out by some miracle!
  14. Labour are bringing in new rules that will mean drivers doing 94mph in a 70 will now get 6 penalty points and £100 fine. This means if you get camera'd twice, when your'e doing around the average motorway speed, you will lose your license. Fair or not? Any comments? 15. Sorry to hear this Greg :-(
  16. Keith Michaels brokers were the best I found after getting quite a few other quotes. 02086427868
  17. Yep, they dont care because its not their money, they'll soon pay off the loan by taxing the public a little more in anyway they can get away with. The Scottish parliament farce was better tho.
  18. That makes sense Dave but the cameras wouldnt earn revenue this way so the govt wouldnt even consider it. They want our money and they want us off the road via totting up = less congestion. Funny how they tell us again and again that most ppl support the use of speed cameras, there's 94% against them in that poll and roughly the same in every other independant poll I've ever seen!
  19. Have a guess if the majority are for or against cameras, then place your vote. If you support them please comment why below :) http://www.thisislondon.com/haveyoursay/polls/?itemId=14951022
  20. They've been doing this for a couple years now , most countys now have so called 'safety camera partnerships'. They are far worse than gatso's as they use vans that could be parked anywhere and mainly civilians operate the camera out the back window. Police officers can man the vans and get paid overtime for it though!! The scamera partnerships are growing rapidly as the cash is so easy and too good to turn down. They get to keep a large percentage of the takings, so spend/waste as much as they can on new vehicles/cameras/staff (including statiticians and PR ppl to try and justify their existance). As much as you can trust politicians, the tories have said they will scrap them if they come to power. It's been on the news recently about the police having to make cutbacks on staff, they dont have the funds apparently. How come I see them everyday cruising around in Mercedes' and Lexus' then? It's a pisstake. http://www.abd.org.uk Please think about joining guys, it doesnt cost much.
