  1. hi tony are you ok mate? one of my exhaust note's is a strange fluttery nosie, but not the side the nosie is coming from or maybe the sound is travelling? form the drivers side to passenger? it's just a real faint rattle from the passenger side under boost at about 2000/4000 rev's, you can acctually hold the noise there under boost by lifting off slightly, it's when the car is at normal temp. cheers mate Jim
  2. hi mate, they are TPS = throttle position sensor AFM = your're right! PTU = power transister unit (for the 6 coils) EGR = exhaust gas reciculating AIV = air injection valve? PCCV = positive crankcase ventilation valve car'nt remember any more at the moment mate, hope these help TTFN Jim
  3. I would think you'd be better bying a TT engine. from what i've learnt in the past is all N/A's are high compression engines and all turbo's are low compression engines. I would have thought you'd need a tt ecu aswell? Jim
  4. the lastest....and it's good news! today ive changed the oil used a flush and oil filter changed and it's really clean! (nothing in the filter) I thought id just remove a couple of spark plugs to have a look in cylinders, (used the car today, about 50 miles). i'd removed a plug and looked in the cylinder, got my magnetic long screw driver, then it dawned on me.......... where the spark plugs seat in the head theres a small ledge when you look directly down there, upon looking today I saw a few bit's sat on the ledge these where the tiny metal filings I thought where coming from my cylinders. Ive removed my spark plug about 6 times this year, the small filings are from the threded part in the head, and when removed they pull out tiny microscopic bits which in time build up on the ledge. This is why I thought I had tiny filings in each cylinder, is was in fact from the plugs in each clyinder and a small build up down each one, I have cleaned each one with the screw driver down there and theres nothing in the cylinders! fantsatic, but I still don't know what the rattling is on boost? reving the car upto 4000 tonight, I could hear something in the exhaust, like a small piece of metal, very faintly, could it be this while im driving? thanks lads Jim
  5. hi lads thanks all for the info on whats wrong with mine, im going to be taking of the hard pipes sometime this week to see what's in there, could this be a chance for bigger turbos if so, which ones are the best for autos and if putting bigger tub's on is there anything else i need to do (fueling, airflow etc....) i have standard airbox with k + n filters and a straight through s/s exhaust. nearly forgot to ask, when taking the engine out, do you have to remove the auto box first or lift it all out at a tight angle? there's going to be a few questions on here in the next few months' a million thanks jim.
  6. Thanks lads, it's what i thought it would be but hoping it was'nt! ill give it an oil change, new filter tommorow and look in the filter, and try and take the hardpipes off, it sounds as though it's the passenger side turbo, if it is the turbo will it have done any engine damage and whats going to be the damage to my wallet? cheers jim
  7. hi everyone, to the people who've helped me over the past few days, a bigthank you to all! ive checked the timing today with a quality tester (inductive one) off number 1 lead and it's near spot on 15 degrees! I have no air locks! running standard boost TPS is spot on running on optimax for 4 months. (tt auto 91) changed plugs to prf6b11 and tryed prf6b11c on removel of plugs each cylinder seemed to have very tiny metal filings in there (used magnetic screw driver) I can hear what seems to be a slight rattle on boost at about 2500/4000 revs the car dos'nt go into saftey boost everytime (now and agian) but i do sometimes get a code 34. can anyone help me on what to do next. thank you all jim :( :( :( :(
  8. cheers zevens ill try that tommorow mate, jim
  9. cheers rob, this may account for the colour the plugs have been since i got the car, they've always been really clean looking as though there over heating? and never ever the nice brown powder colour. many thanks mate jim.
  10. cheers jack! see ya soon. jim
  11. should the car be just idling to make an adjustment on the timing? cheers

  15. hi mate reading was done with a timming strobe from No 1 cylinder, cheers Jim
  16. hello.everyone, as most of you know ive been having dett problems and some of you have suggested a timming slip? Ive just checked my timming and on tick over, its reads its at 10 degrees? should this be 15? and should I adjust it to that, do you turn it anti clockwise or clockwise to advance? many thanks for any help Jim.
  17. hi everyone, I live in east yorkshire (hull), where is the nearest place to take my zed to get the dett problem sorted/ cheers jim
  18. bilky, I changed the entire cooling system water about 3 weeks ago, come to think of it it was around the time this noise started? mmmmmmmmm Jim.
  19. just reading a few past threds, one says the VVT is controlled by oil pressure? If my oil is to thick (15/50) could this readuce oil pressure enough for the VVT not to operate proprley, (ie timing) thus enducing detonation? cheers jim
  20. year mate did them in summer, thanks. jim
  21. sorry about all the questions mate very helpful you are! When i took the balance bar off to do the plugs i noticed pools of oil in the plenum? jim
  22. do you all think it could be the optimax? should I try an octane booster to see if it disapears first? this is a stupid question I know, but it is'nt anything to do with putting mobil 15/50 in the engine is it (it's all started since that day i changed it) and it's alot darker and dirtier than at normal oil changes? jim
  23. you've lost me andy? does everyone definatly think it's detting then from my long description above cheers jim
  24. Hi mate i use normally castrol 10/60 but the last change I put mobil 15/50 in and it seems to have got real dirty and dark really quick? Jim
