  6. having a long drive there and back on the same day for many people was the main reason for finding a local hotel the night before, to relax and be fresh for the meet and the eventual drive home agan next day :-)

  9. The 300zx.co.uk annual club meet for 2016 has been organised, with a return to Coventry Transport Museum and Millenium Place. For those that haven't been, the Museum is a great place to visit, and parking right outside on Millenium Place draws lots of attention and some great photo opportunities. Lexx did a fantastic job organising this location in 2014. This year we will also be holding our AGM at the museum for subscribed members to attend. In addition, we will be holding a general meeting where hopefully the REO's will be presenting their ideas for the 2017 annual club meet, where all members can vote for their preferred location, giving the REO a year to put all of the plans into place. With this in mind, we have decided to nominate a local hotel as a central meeting point the day before, to set the format for following years where the annual meet could be anywhere in the country. This will allow members that are travelling from afar to arrive the day before, meet up with other fellow members, have a nice social evening and meal, before arriving nice and fresh at the meeting venue the following morning after a short drive. The nominated hotel this year is Premier Inn at Hinckley, which has an attached Brewers Fayre pub and restaurant, located next to a canal and marina. It is a 30 minute drive to the Museum on Sunday morning. 12 rooms are already reserved, 8 at £68 4 at £70, which are available on first come first served basis by contacting me on PM and sending the money via PayPal or bank transfer. I will need your full names, how many of you, and if you want a double, twin or family room. Breakfast is not included in the price but can be paid for separately on arrival or in the morning. Alternatively, you can contact the hotel yourself and make your own reservations, particularly if you want to stay extra nights. The price increased from £68 to £70 automatically once a certain number of rooms were booked, and are likely to increase again at a certain threshold as more rooms are booked. But the hotel staff have no control over that as it is built into the booking system. The direct line for the hotel is 01455 896920. Rooms can be cancelled up to 1pm on the day, but I will be cancelling any unconfirmed or unpaid for rooms the week before that, when the menu choices are confirmed to the restaurant. If you have booked via me, then I will will refund any cancellations that are notified in time to cancel the booking. The restaurant has a separate mezzanine area which has been reserved for a group meal on the Saturday evening for 30 people, but we can confirm the numbers at a later date, and can probably accommodate up to 50 people. If anyone is local and wants to attend the meal, that will be fine, subject to the same food pre-booking details below. We must provide the confirmed menu choices the week before, which we will then be committed to, whether you turn up or not. So if you have ordered and cannot make it, we will end up having to pick up the bill, which is not ideal, so please only place your menu orders when you know for sure you are attending. The new menu is published 17th March and a link will be added at that time and the opportunity to collect menu choices over the following weeks. Please confirm on the thread whether you plan to attend the meet, whether you plan to stay at the nominated hotel, and whether you want to reserve a room through me or directly, or whether you just want to turn up for just the meet or the meal. E.g. Name, meet, hotel booking, room type, meal Craig+2, attending meet, hotel Booked via Craig, family room, yes Anon, attending meet only, no hotel, no meal Dates are the 16th and 17th of July. Proposed schedule for the day. AGM agenda in the subscribed forum Club Meet Schedule and AGM Agenda 10:00 Museum Open/Club Meet Start (Starley Room open for club use) 12:00 Lunch provided in Starley Room (all attending forum members/family) 13:30 Trophy Voting Forms Final Submission 14:00 AGM Start in Starley Room (Subscribed Forum Members only) 15:30 Trophy Presentation Outside (or Starley Room depending on weather) 16:00 Museum Close/Club Meet Finish (Vacate Millennium Place)

  11. first day done. learnt enough of the circuit to feel comfortable with it. its a great track for bikes. a few bike breakdowns, so some of our group didnt get much time out on track. a few people came off during the day too, including my mate, so 5 hours waiting for an xray on a broken collarbone tonight. will see what tomorrow brings...
  12. off to cartagena today to spend 4 days on track on my bike :-) while the zed is off for a complete detailing and paint protection with a pro detailer, after its great makeover at Dasstech. just need to get wheels, scuttles and wipers tidied when i get back, and i will be happy with the '1st impression' it makes :-) not got the time or money to go into true show car territory yet ;-) but it will definitely give a good account of itself by the time japfest comes around! so i will be sunning myself and chucking my bike about a bit while the zed is getting pampered
  13. you mean, the vents that are designed to increase airflow through the intercoolers, by allowing the air behind them to exit the bumper directly? ;-)

  18. wow. what a thread. lol. personally, given the stand space, i would include a body modified version, a motor sport version, as well as oem and subtle versions, as long as the quality of them was considered best in class by the club. they highlight exactly what is possible with the cars, and also how cherished the cars are by their owners, regardless of how their taste has driven the result. but as has already been said, some of these variations may actually be out of place for the type of event and not reflect the classicness of the show i would also include the roughest version we could find, which clearly indicated all of the problem areas and could be used to highlight how good the restorations are in our club. with classic also comes restoration. but underlying ALL of that, is the car show also propose a theme for each show, which we should try to include. we have missed the theme references in previous years, as it was not obvious in the site pack. so if there was a sport, or film, or other specific theme, then it would be easier to include specific modifications. imho it should be a club member decision as much as possible, bearing in mind the quality of car preferred. however, any member that wants to volunteer their car MUST understand the commitment and as a club we cannot afford to have people back out at the last minute, because it is unfair on other members who could have committed but were not selected.
  19. know anyone with a fork lift truck? or at least a 4x4 to drag it with?
  20. best wishes you matey, hope you are keeping well. dont be a stranger!
  21. Fair point Pete, and knowing that i myself would never buy and fit 10 year old tyres onto a car, i am surprised that i didnt answer as such. :( I must have been on a different train of thought. Although i have owned and driven cars with older tyres, i would never purposefully buy them. On my motorbikes, i would never even consider a tyre more than 3 years old. Agreed.
  22. general advisory practice for tyres is replace at 5 years old, so 10 year old tyres are past their use by date. but i know very few people who actually bother with that ;-) as long as they have been stored indoors, they are probably fine, but the rubber may not be as pliable as new tyres
  23. not tried that specific model, but had Hankooks on a few different cars now in the dry they were great, and mileage was good, but i dont find them that good in the wet, and they always seem noisy on the road. personally, i wouldnt consider them for a daily driver, but would use them for a weekend/summer car.
  24. i generally use http://www.camskill.co.uk when ordering car tyres, as they always seem to have the best prices and stock availability, and deliver promptly. But i used national tyres http://www.national.co.uk in an emergency when i was up in scotland, and they were also very very well priced. you also get them cheaper if you order online for fitting at a branch, rather than ordering directly in the branch (some company management initiative..lol). The branch manager told me that, so i ordered online while i was in the reception. I recently used http://www.openeo.co.uk for the first time after being recommended, to get 2 sets of bike tyres, and also found excellent prices and delivery was good too. i notice they supply car tyres as well, but have not used them for that. using camskill and openeo means you will have to pay to get the tyres fitted elsewhere, which is fine if you have someone that will do that for you. not all tyre places like fitting tyres they havent supplied.
