M40 Crash
seen plenty of atrocious drivers in their 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's too. i think every driver should take a retest every 5 years, with a 1 year grace period to retake if you fail. i think this would help reduce the bad habits, reinforce some proper behaviours, and provide the opportunity to learn about new rules and regulations. but, any regulations like this generally penalise the law abiding, and the reckless, feckless arsehats that don't give a toss will continue to drive unlicensed, uninsured, etc. technology should have been put in place a long time ago that forces the use of a valid licence to activate the ignition of a vehicle, which would also act as an immobiliser

What days are you visiting the NEC Classic Motor Show 2018?
we might have 1 or 2 spare exhibitor passes for each day. BUT, we are waiting for confirmation on how many we have actually been allocated compared to what we asked for... if everyone who is coming wants to list the day they are coming, we can setup a quick competition to win one. :) FRIDAY Chris (.007) Gray SATURDAY Nick SUNDAY Richard

Stepping down.
Sorry to hear that Stephen, and thank you for everything you have already done. We have all seen the general decline in community and increase in apathy, particularly around events, with some members posting about events and not even getting a reply on those threads. It is difficult when you have to organise 6-12+ months in advance, and receive no interest until 6 days in advance. I cannot offer any real insights into why this is happening, but myself and the committee are continually trying to find ways to keep the community spirit engaged, and trying to organise events for next year. I hope you manage to stay engaged enough to come along to at least one of them.

New tyre age
new tyres are new tyres if they unused, regardless of their age. for competition and track use, then how they are stored is important, as it could severely affect performance, especially 'wet' tyres and more so on bikes. this happens a lot with the online discount tyre retailers, as that is why they get offered cheaper than "new" stock but for general car road use, then that sort of age should be fine as long as they are not cracked from bad storage. how many miles are you likely to do? if they are not likely to be on the car more than 2 years, then i think they would be fine.

VOTING CLOSED 23/8: Display Car Vote : Classic Car Show : NEC 2018
we have to spend some time arguing about the vote first, that the 38 voters do not represent the feelings of the 100's of registered and subscribed members who felt that the outcome was a foregone conclusion and now suddenly realise that we have a load of sheds on display this year

VOTING CLOSED 23/8: Display Car Vote : Classic Car Show : NEC 2018
As previously mentioned, am closing the poll this evening as of now. Unfortunately, i did not put a closing date when creating the poll, and cannot edit it to close it properly, so it will be a manual close. I have taken a screenshot of the vote counts which will stand as the final result. Congratulations to JaiKai, bird, JoelyP and GSC. Was a hard fought poll, with GSC and AndrewG neck and neck most of the way, and a surprise to see Joel coming along in 3rd place this year. Andrew and Ian, it would be appreciated if you could keep yourselves on standby with your cars, in case of any unforseen issues? For all 6 volunteers, you should have some information from me regarding the logistics of the show. I will keep the thread open for a short while rather than close it, but as said, new votes will no longer be counted.

Typical EU
why not hold a vote first to see if there should be another vote?

VOTING CLOSED 23/8: Display Car Vote : Classic Car Show : NEC 2018
Ok guys, we will close the poll Sunday night 23rd as voting seems to have slowed down. We have a tie for 4th entry at the moment, so will open a tie breaker poll if required when this one closes. Will be in touch with everyone regarding the logistics after that.

VOTING CLOSED 23/8: Display Car Vote : Classic Car Show : NEC 2018
i think it’s great that 3 of the 4 cars have not been before. its nice to see more cars of a high standard, but also nice to see people vote differently

How to value a Zed..?
sorry to hear of your woes, and the subsequent stupid argument down to the nitty gritty items of no real value. some of the lawyers actually encourage this tiny level of detail so that any movement is seen as a compromise, when in fact its just dragging their "billable time on case" by another few hours of correspondence. i think you are right, and agree with Jeff. it's a breaker at best at this point, as the only thing usable sounds like the shell and a few add-ons. as a SWB manual, it could be considered as the more valuable of the models by some, but only within the small Zcommunity, not on a large scale classic car collectible basis. get some pictures, and also go to ebay, facebook, etc and screenshot any adverts you can find for other shells, or breakers, include some completed listings, to give a view of what others have actually sold for. You will most certainly find some for £200-£400 i reckon. this is the same type of activity you would take if you wanted to up the value for an insurance claim on a good car with low payout, just in reverse to give a truer and more accurate valuation of a shell. best of luck
