  1. I finally did the deed today and removed my AIV system from my zed. Coming from someone who has never done anything mechanical i think i did a pretty good job on the removal and i thought id write up a tech guide while i was at it so everyone could see what i did and or use this for hgelp doing their own removal someday. Time Taken: 3 hours Approximately Tools Needed: -Phillips head Screwdriver -10mm Socket and Ratchet -Pilers Related Links: US Spec AIV Removal (Twin Turbo) - http://s95014253.onlinehome.us/63104/137858.html US Spec AIV Removal (Non-Turbo) - http://www.300zxclub.com/showthread.php?t=107054 Step 1: Jacking the Car - First thing you need to do is jack the front of the car. For Safety i used jack stands to hold the car up. You dont need to jack both sides up but it does make the removal go quicker and allows for more room to work in under the car. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k276/DJ_Party_Favor/JackTheCarOfftheGround.jpg Step 2 : Passnage Side Fender Lining Removal - I decided to take the passenger side AIV off first as this side is the easiest to remove duie to not as many obstructions in the way of the AIV airbox. Here you can see the Fender lining which covers 3/4s of the fender well for the wheel. Dotted in red are the plastic fasteners and screws which need to be removed inorder to get the lining off the car. The are 5 plastic fasters and 9 Phillips head screws in total. If you have stock mud flaps these need to be removed as well. When the lining is removed you can see the AIVs bolted to the chassis. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k276/DJ_Party_Favor/RHWheelOffREDDots.jpg NOTES: To removed the plastic Fasteners push the middle part of the fastener inwards. Step 3: Removing Passnage Side AIV Unit and Airbox - There are only 4 10mm bots that secure the AIV unit to the car they are located in red in the photo. Next remove the upper rubber tubing that connects to the AIV Airbox by losening the Clamps and pulling the hoses off the Airbox. Then remove the lower rubber tubing that connectors to the exhaust metal pipes. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k276/DJ_Party_Favor/RHAIVUnitREDDOTS.jpg - The Airbox is held to the chassis by a black bracket with another bracket on top of it for the indicator connector. the brackets are screwed down by 2 10 mm screws.Once you have removed the screws and brackets from the chassis u have to fiddle with the box to get it out but if u loosen the zipties it would be much easier to remove the box. Once the box is out screw the Indicator connector bracket back in. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k276/DJ_Party_Favor/RHAIVAirboxREDDOTS.jpg - Once the AIV has been removed its a good idea to clean any dirt build up in that area. I used a brush and vacumm cleaner to get as much as dirt out as i could. The this is what everything will look like from now on. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k276/DJ_Party_Favor/DirtSpotOnFender.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k276/DJ_Party_Favor/RHSideChassisWithoutAIV.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k276/DJ_Party_Favor/RHSideFenderWithoutAirbox.jpg Step 4: Drivers Side Fender Lining Removal - Same as the Passnage Side, for me i had mostly bots instead of Fasteners. All the red dots are screws which need to be removed. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k276/DJ_Party_Favor/LHWheelOffREDDOTS.jpg Step 5: Removing Drivers Side AIV and Airbox - As with the Passnage side there are 4 10mm bolts that hold the unit onto the chassis, http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k276/DJ_Party_Favor/LHAIVunitREDDOTS.jpg - The Drivers Side Airbox bracket has the starter relay bracket connected to it like the indicator connector bracket was. Once the 2 10mm bolts are removed replace the starter relay bracket back in its original spot. Again removing the airbox is difficult with alot more wirting looms to worry about this time, but take your time and you should be able to wiggle the box out eventually. Then remove the lower rubber tubing that connectors to the exhaust metal pipes. - Again clean the fender with a brush and the units are now gone from the car. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k276/DJ_Party_Favor/LHSideChassisWithoutAIV.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k276/DJ_Party_Favor/LHSideFenderWithoutAirbox.jpg Step 6: Removing AIV Solenoid - The AIV solenoid is located on the Drivers side of the car inside the engine bay. There is a black bracket that holds the solenoid to the car, remove the 2 10mm bolts from the bracket and then u must remove another 10mm bolt at the back of the solenoid to remove it from the bracket. Once the solenoid is removed place bracket back in its original spot. Step 7: What To Do with the rubber Hoses -The Hoses for the AIVs are connected to a T pipe, so can be removed from either the AIVs(which i did) or the AIV Solenoid and then pulled out through the wiring looms connectors its connected to along the firewall. The top hose on the solenoid connects to the Balance tube and the bottom hose to the ERG Solenoid. For me im going to cut the original hosing and then ziptie the hose back on its self to create a seal over the metal connections for the balance tube and ERG pipe. As for the connector on the front of the Solenoid, u need to push the metal U wire out to disconnect the connector. As this wire connects to the wiring loom which is covered by plastic tubing and tape i left it in the engine bay but moved it to this position using one of the extra clips from the AIV system. Step 8: Exhaust Piping - For now im leaving the Metal pipes that connect directly to the exhaust front pipes and get them blocked by an exhaust shop later, unfortunately leaving the car like is make an exhaust sound at the front of the car. Step 9: Putting Everything Back Together - To finish off the removal you have to put everything back together again. Pretty straight forward just a reservse of what u just did. and this is what u are left with afterwards GOOD REDDENS!!!
  2. Yes another AIV thread, i knew what your thinking, guides here simple DYI job, but there are still a few questions i need answered as all the AIV guides ive read(about 5 of them) dont detail the solnieod removal enough so here are my questions. 1, Does anyone have a photo of the AIV bracket in a late model car where nissan removed them, i want to see what nissan did/left in the late models so i can copy nissan. 2 I want to remove the Solnieod from the engine bay and ive already checked which pipes go to the AIV units so i can pull them out no problems but what of the the 2 other pipes connected to the Solnieod, do i have to leave them in and hook them up together or do they go into another location within the engine bay.
  3. Did these original rears come with only the greeny colour on the 89-99, or did they also come on the 2000spec rear red 300zx ones too???
  4. well you learn something knew every day, here in australia the illuminated rear center panels where only custom made panels, and i never knew they were an optional extra. Which has now prompted me to want to get one. Now if it was an optional extra, does anyone know what kind of illuminator they used. Here in Aus where used a EL panel to light up the 300zx as it was the only thing that woulod fit inside the panel, is this the same for the original nissan ones??? Can you buy the original nissan ones as well???
  5. 89 Jspec Grey Tweed & Grey Tweed Seats Its in good condition for its age though but want to upgrade to the 97 model interior one day
  6. Thanx for all the info guys, yesterday i decided i had to get answers on the Velour interor from the wreck and get the condition/price. When i got there the passanager seat and the side panels that hold the seatbelts were all missing and the seats were very dirty and staned by grease from metal parts throw ontop of them:(, so i decided to not get the interior and leave a professional retrim to the later model interior as my only option atm. Pitty would have updated the inside of my car but what can u do.
  7. I was very interested in one of my mates 97 interior with black seast and 300zx stiched onto the seat. But that interior would be almost impossible to get unless i did a custom job. I think i could probably get all the panels and seats for $300 - $400 but i still need to ask him fiurst and see what he says. My car is a silver matellic colour and thought the upgrade interior might modern it a bit more.
  8. Sweet, The car i would get this interior from is a wreck and i still want to go and inspect the condition before i go and buy it. My main concern is that the inside of the car is exposed to the outside elements a little the targas are missing and the seats might be water soaked by the time i can get to the interior. The car has been in the wreckers for around 6 months. Lately there hasnt been much rain so i dont think the seats will be weak if i remove them but could it be??? would the seat be ok to use???
  9. It looks like this, They look greyer then the interior i was thinking of swaping with my tweed interior. It could be that velour material ur talking about always thought it was a seude material. This was taking on a 95 model NA
  10. Just want to hear peoples opinions on changing my Grey Tweed OEM interior to a Blue Seude OEM interior from a 92 model. Is it worth the change, does it look good in a zed???
  11. Who is this MJP??? Is that a members name??? I looked thorught the members list but no MJP.
  12. Ok does anyone know the part numbers for the actually switches themselves. I got what i thought was the part numbers but infact turned out to be the finishers trimming around the switches. Please some1 please help me.
  13. Here is my double clear attempt using standard LED looking globes. Mine cost me around $300 AUD which is heaps cheaper then what you got but everyone has different opinions. We had a thread about this in australia a few weeks ago but for us the price would be about $700-$800 AUD for those lights.
  14. I found the thread about the late model upside down toggle illuminated window switches and it has got some of the guys in australia wanted me to find out where i can get theres very cool parts. Does anyone know where to get these switches from?? Is there a UK supplier i can contact? Also did they come in carbon fibre/marble as an option???
  15. Does Anyone know the part number for a Series 2 Amplifier Control Unit that goes with the Series 2 Climate Control unit??? here is a photo of the unit and its location within the interior; Please can anyone help me???
  16. thanx guys, im very proud of my new lights very glad i got them in the end just gotta get the front ones now;) boldy i was thinking the same thing make them indicators but the kit came with red globes and ive seen a complete one before and it was just the red globe light up. viniboy my rear tailights are LEDs as well, due to my double Clear Custom 2000spec tailights;) I did have to get these from the US Ebay heres the link, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NISSAN-300ZX-90-96-DIAMOND-REAR-SIDE-BUMPER-LIGHTS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33717QQihZ020QQitemZ300120415272QQrdZ1 Tho that auition is now over im sure they will re-aution the kit again.
  17. After about 3 weeks i finally got my new Chrome Clear Side bumper Lights Had to get them from the US and it cost me $90 AUD in total including shipping. I was going to wait to put them on but i just couldnt, and im so glad i didnt as they look bloody beautiful on the car:). I still need to find a front side indicator connector and loom which ill wire up to the licence plate loom;). What do u guys think
  18. I was just reading about the updates on the beet kit thread and they the guy running it said that the you dont get a front bar with the kit you have to use your own front bar so its just the rear end and the side parts of the fit they are making. so might see some weird style body kits at the end of the year.
  19. haha its good to see the uk forums interested in what us aus forums are up to, me personally i dont like this kit much but it seems alot of people in aus thinks its worth getting, currently they are planning on making fibreglass copies but we are only allowed to have 8 copies in the whole country or some shit like that because of royalists to the company that make the kit. The kit also has to be modified from the original picture posts to this Anyways here is another wide body kit i think is the hottests ive seen. http://www.ibherdesign.com/nissan300zx-body-kits.html
  20. lol yeh its only there for looks. If i get a twin turbo one day it will work tho.
  21. Hey guys i just finished my Cars profile on the Cardomain website and i wanted to see what you guys thought of my car. I did my best to add as much userful information as possible so let me know what you think. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2645958 Also on that note you'll see the lastest mod done to my car, a 300 kmph Z speedo which i installed on Friday last week(thanx to fleet). Got ringwood speedos to install the new speedo plate for me and i installed the speedo into my old NA cluster myself. I even added in a stock boost gauge
  22. Well i did want the the series 2 C/C unit as i want to put asll the improvement parts the z32 series had in the 10 yrts they were being produced. I got these from a Zed Specalists Workshop in Australia but i didnt know i needed the Amp ECU so atm im still trying to source the ECU in australia. I think the new features on the S2 unit are better as u can select whether u want to warm up ir feet or face or both as well as having 4 fan speed settings. If i can get one from the uk it doesnt bother me, i just want it. Ill post a item wanted thread but if anyone is has a s2 Amp ECU for sale please pm me.
  23. Put my new Series 2 Climate Control Unit into my car yesterday and im not sure if its working correctly. I had a Series 1 unit, so i just plug in the series 2 unit everything lights up properly and the A/C works but what does the Mode Function mean and whats the fan symbol mean/Do when activated?? I did find out that it has a auto cycle though but im sure i should be able to adjust my own air vent directions and adjust the fan speed. Can anyone help??
  24. The Climate control unit i was talking about is this one It doesnt have awp readings and the writing on the module is slightly different to the electric modules from the 89 model i have This was taken from a 95 jap-spec
