Newbie needs help!
The coil pack is basically (idiot speach) a voltage amplifier that provides power to the spark plug. After checking the PTO connections (as stated above), it would be an idea to identify which cylinder is not firing. Swap coil packs and see if the 'no firing' follows the coil pack or remains at original cylinder. If it follows the coil pack after swap, coil pack shagged. If miss fire remains at the original cylinder, it is then most probably electrical, and a good start will be the PTU.

DEXRON II ok for auto box ???
Get the recomended Dexron III mate, we all know this oil does what its supposed to and is recomended by the majority.

DEXRON II ok for auto box ???
Spot on mate. Dexron III. Different proporties in Dexron II and its more compressible.

Auto tramission problem adivce
Are you sure that the Mechanic drained the old fluid out of the box and replaced it. How many miles have ya done since the replacement? The fluid colour should be transparent Red.

A Warning
You should of taken the Mitsa GTO out first and saved the ZED. Cowboy's.

Auto tramission problem adivce
First thing first mate. I had my the same problem with my Auto, turned out that the mechanic hadn't bled through properly and the fluid was wrong. The hyd' fluid that he used was more compressable then the rated 'DEXRON III', so with this in mind either ask what fluid he used or go for a complete drain, and as stated above, look for evidence of material in the drained fluid. Fill with DEXRON III, rock gear selector back and forward through all gears, checking fluid level until full.

tapping
Look through the other threads mate but it sounds like your lifters. Does it sound like it is coming from one particular cylinder?

A polite word from the SE REO
Just an idea! For those of us that live North of the goddamn M25, why do we not 'tag along' to the jap meet at; M11 Motorway Junction 8 Old Dunmow Road Bishops Stortford Hertfordshire CM23 5QZ On the last Sunday in the month. This meet was a success last month (Posted by Essex gt4), and at least if we start having a turn out of Zed's there, then maybe it will be the start of better things. Unfortunately for the South of the South East this would be a long way to come I know, especially as i'm being forced to live in Norfolk at the moment and all meets are a long way down for me. At least we could try and get together, and if its not for everyone, at least we're not sitting in a car park on our own, wondering why we've just spent all that beer money to park our motors next to a people carrier and a fu*!ing ford Mondeo at a 'Hungry Horse' or where ever. It might start things up, might not, but it seems that there are a lot of individuals that dedicate their time to the 'South East meets' (Darkside TT) and it would be a shame if we keep letting them down. Chin up all, we own Zeds. Tony

Good to hear it was a success 'essex boy'. I'll make sure I make it to the next one. Did you have any trouble from the '5,o ?

Electrical Tech question - Senders/Gauges ouput - Linear voltage ?
Most signals that are generated will be as close to linear as possible as they are used for instrumentation . Only a few digital sender units will fluctuate the signal for a processor to sort and sent to the read out/display.

Electrical connectors/plugs
Thanks again mate.

Electrical connectors/plugs
Cheers for the reply mate.

Electrical connectors/plugs
Can anyone tell me if/where you can buy the connectors for the wiring looms. I am hoping to make up complete new looms using aircraft grade wire,(Heat proof, much smaller diameter and greater flexibility etc)with the hope of re-routing and moving some of the components. Many thanks Tony.

Age of Z owners?
34 and lovin it. They say the best time in your life is at school.....it was. Everythings better in your life in your 20's.....it was. Everything starts getting duller in your 30's......it don't. Will I ever grow up.....hope not.

atf oil- reccomendations ?
You will need a good three litres. Buy five ltrs and you will be able to use it for topping up your power steering and auto box.
-
engine out links,
You will spend longer trying to get your head around how other people have pulled their engine out by reading a step by step guide then doing the job. I would allow yourself half a day as you have not pulled out the engine before, but as you will see from the forum, once you know what your doing it does'nt take that long......................300zx.org.uk, there is an article in there. ZX32 Tech Index, Engine Mechanical, Engine removal. All the best.

atf oil- reccomendations ?
Hi jazzy. Most articles on gearbox fluid for our 300 auto's points in the direction of Dexeron-III. I've used Dexeron II before but the box didn't like it as much as III. Any good car spares/garage will have this in stock. Happy hunting.

Sponge around the intercooler pipes
To be honest, the amount of sponge that is around those pipes is minimal and the ammount of heat that would transfer out of the system with this removed will also be minimal. The sponge itself can also act as an insulator, protecting the system from heat, but there's so little of it I don't think its detrimentle to the system, I removed it from my car as it was all 'tatty' and have not noticed any increases or decreases in power. By the way, nice looking Zed mate.
-
Waxoil
Obviously the car will be up in the air when you spray it on, so if you can, wrap the exhaust, fuel lines and brake lines. Waxoil is brill for covering things up and protecting the underneath of your motor, but is a pain in the arse to remove.

Engine removal
Personally, I've tried both. Pro and cons for each, all depends on the equipment you have to hand. If you have access to high level ramps I would suggest taking it out over the front once you have disconnected all the other bits. Again, only my opinion. Good luck.

Ice Road Truckers
Tell ya what, for that kinda money, thinking of trading in the Zed for a truck, will be able to buy 10 Zeds a month. yi pee. lol.

ipods
:hyper: I've only got the nano 4gb but it is brilliant for music, 1000 of your best songs and no need to change your cd's. Purchased a lead from e-bay that plugs into the back of the car stereo where the multi-changer lead normally goes so now listen to it in the Zed. Technology hey, what ever happened to sony walkmans the size of bricks and them aliminium cases that held 40 cassettes. lol

Solder
Remember to put some insulating sleeve over the solder when completed not just tape. Just finished re-wiring main loom where solder from previous owner's bodge broke through the insulation tape and shorted out. I found my main loom glowing bright red and smoking like a good'en'. They do some insulating heat shrink in Maplins, might be worth while.
