Is there anyone who knows how and if it is easier to remove the engine by lifting the car up rather than lifting the engine?

if you've got acess to a ramp you'd be easier takin it out from the bottom

Have you done it that way ?

Ive taken one out of the front, UNO's old engine, nope hope of saving front end though, ive put from top, (hard enough,) but i think removing from underneath, could be a bit awkward, after removing subframe, shouldnt be that bad, as long as its supported big time. Dam heavy.

Leave the box in the car, release the lower steering u/j and four subframe bolts.lower the subframe about 50mm and the engine will come out the top.

Personally, I've tried both. Pro and cons for each, all depends on the equipment you have to hand. If you have access to high level ramps I would suggest taking it out over the front once you have disconnected all the other bits. Again, only my opinion. Good luck.

not on my own zed but i helped someone do thiers but we had a ramp and an engine seat to sit the engine on it just seemed a lot easier with the tools we had, we had everythihg you needed to do it, so

ooh if i remember rightly about 5-6 hours but he'd done it before cant remember to be honest he only took it out to change all the vaccumand water pipes.

i know hes a bit bit of a looney lol

 I wouldnt have thought a Zed engine would come through the bottom with the plenum on and if you took it off before you dropped it, you could could change all your vac pipes anyway.

it was all the water pipes at the back aswell, he rplaced them all with reinforced piping so he new they'd last, i know a bit overkill but thats just the way he is. i'd never do it i'd break too many things :D :nelson:

hmmm... think I'm going to lift the engine out. Seems like more work to remove the subframe. Must i remove the transmission in order to get the engine out and in again? Also, must I remove all the items described in the TTzd engine removal?

There is a video on the Z1 Motorsport site showing it being done from underneath. In fact, it's a vid of a NA-Turbo conversion.
