  1. Was reading the thread from Zimon regarding bringing a few Zed parts in from the states and kinda hit upon an idea. My wife is American and more than once I`ve had parts from Courtesy shipped through her twin sister in PA. The thought hit me that maybe my sister in law could make a gift of parts for my Zed on a more regular basis.....get my drift? Hows about it? If I can help a few fellow Zedders "bypass" customs it can`t be a bad thing can it? Any ideas?
  2. Hey all.... Just a quick question about a funny thing that happened earlier. Started the car up and the "power" alert light for the auto box flashed about 4-5 times then just went off. Any ideas if this is bad or not? Car feels and goes just as well as ever.....strange
  3. Yup, that price is fitted. Jef won`t let you fit it yourself anyways cos he slaps boost jets on at the same time.Power increase is an instant 70bhp. hth
  4. Got my chip from Zedworld at around £300 I think. It is a very good chip too, showing none of the problems I have seen posts about with chips from other manufacturers. UK plugs deffo though, reckon Scott is right about the whole heat thing. hth
  5. May be slightly exorbitant on this figure but it takes aroound 200 miles for the ECU to correctly learn how to add up again after change. I do stand to be corrected of course but would recommend that yo drive for another 100 miles or so before drawing comparison. BTW: I have found that UK plugs work far better than Jap spec in an import with stage 1 chip......was getting det with the jap plugs. Any ideas?
  6. How many miles have you done since the change?
  7. What time do you get through at Addams? It would certainly be a pleasure to give you a lift home sometime. Whenever I`m driving the Zed my wife insists that I drive through town rather than around on the A41. She likes the "thunder" the place up a little.
  8. I`m right with you there. Skyline = no fun Zed = lots of fun. The idea that you have that amount of power through those rear wheels has always been one of the most delicious aspects of the Zed for me.
  9. A mate of mine from uni days has just ordered himself a new scooby WRX STi with some extra kit from the manufacturer. reckons it can do 0-60 in about 4.6 secs. Added to that the fact it handles better than the Zed, uses less fuel and is cheaper to maintain means that I`m getting nightly phone calls telling me to get a car that is worth racing.......he`s a decent guy (really) but is really pi**sing me off right now. Just thought I`d share. Fancy a scooby being quicker than my 400hp Zed. I just can`t imagine it.
  10. Chap got in touch with me again...went to look at a Zed in London. Had smokey exhausts and the guy told him it was normal for these cars. Well, guess mine can`t be normal then huh cos I got no damn smoke! Anyways, the point is that one way or another we`ll get him in the direction of a good Zed...mostly thanks to the sterling advice I have received many times on this very forum! So, thanks folks!!!
  11. Thanks all for advice. I must agree with you. Modding the car to the spec you want is totally satisfying. The guy is ringing me over the weekend and I`ll pass on your advice to him. Will be good to have another Zedder so close. Thanks again
  12. Was hassled today by a guy wanting to buy either a Zed or a Supra. Wife was in the car (patient thank God) as the guy took a look over the Zed and said that it has converted him! Hurrah! Looks like we`ll be getting another Zed owner in Shropshire! He wants to spend about 9K. Is older but modded or earlier and unmodded the way to go? If you had the cash, what would be your path?
  13. I`d strongly reccomend a look around the water pump. Had the pump replaced last year (60K service) and the blighters at Nissan screwed up the water hose connections. Maybe the old "white sheet under the car while you run it for 5 mins" trick will give you a better idea of the leakage source. Very best of luck
  14. Mine is exactly the same but as you said it seems to be a common niggle. Bonnet perfectly in line with wings but slightly lopsided with respect to headlamp panel. Any ideas?
  15. Eric, Had precisely these symptoms when the Zed went into Jeff's last time. He told me what the problem was on my car (over me head I`m afraid) but the good news is that he fixed the problem using Conzult. Only thing that was faulty was the Det sensor (boo hiss) but this was not related to the poor running. Hope you get it sorted soon:)
  16. Just got the car back and my det sensor has gone. Have any of you had trouble with the resistor solution? Car has done a shade short of 80K miles and although the turbos are reel good for now, I`m thinking about leaving the det sensor as is until I have to get the turbos replaced. Any thoughts?
  17. So far I`ve had one of Luke`s fine cat back exhausts, a blitz induction kit, stage one chip and boost jets. I suppose these would be called light modidications to most on here. So what comes next? Any suggestions bearing in mind that the car has done around 70Kmiles and the turbos are sweet.
  18. I have been filling at the same shell station for the whole year I have owned the old thunder and have had problems only once. After a previous thread, I went for a chat to the cashier guy (always works the night shift, usually the time I drag myself away from the office) and he said that optimax is delivered only once in every 3 deliveries, as it occupies the largest tank under the forecourt and the owner gets a discount for buying in larger quantities (?) He said that some customers had complained of poor performance, pinking, etc (mostly Nova drivers) with one fill up but that the dealers could find nothing wrong with their cars. It seems that fuel quality is taken as a national level and no-one ever thinks that a problem with their car can originate from the fuel put into it. Trust the Zed to show it up so plainly but after reading the thread last week, I will certaily be checking to make sure the fuel going into my old thunder is fresh....is really quite scary...
  19. Cheers Tony, will keep my peepers on that one. Suppose it only stands to reason really. Optimax is more volatile than normal unleaded and therefore less stable. Still though.....it is definately gonna pay to be careful in future Thanks again
  20. Just wanted to impart a fact here... Went to order a new set of mats for my Zed`s homecoming from INCHCAPE NISSAN in TELFORD Shropshire. Asked if it was possible to order mats for the Z32 without the chassis number to hand and the geezer behind the counter says "what was that?" "Z32" says I. "What`s that?" says geezer. Need I say more about the general state of Nissan franchises?
  21. Seriously? SH*T !!! You mean we pay more for our fuel than almost any other place on the planet and for our investment we gain the capability od burning out valves? SH*T!! F$%^#ING country! Its about right! You sure you`re serious here? Can my beloved optimax really be harming my old thunder?
  22. Thanks folks.... I think that the single large vent (a la Chris C) wiuld be the way to go. It will ruin the sleekness of the front a bit but sooner that than ruining the engine through overheating. Thanks again
  23. Was talking to Luke a while back and during the conversation he reccomended bonnet venting as an effective way of aiding engine cooling. anyone here got bonnet vents and if so, do they help keep your engine a bit cooler?
  24. I must admit to finding all this talk amazing.... I knw the Zed was quick...in its own bracket but had no idea it could do a TVR. Reminds me of a time I was driving on the A41 to Chester. I was in me old MR2 at the time, cruising down the dual carriageway and a 355 rocketed past me. About a second later came a 300ZX...never even saw it coming. I had no idea what a Zed was then mind...wonder who won? And to think, when I was ordering my shiny titanium key earlier today, the guy down at the Nissan dealer asked when I would be "upgrading" to the Z33....LOL!! NEVER!!!!!!:D :D
  25. Nuff said then..appears all is well and I am being a little paranoid. Thanks for the help. ps...exactly how good is the fast road rebuild and is it as smooth as the stock auto box?
