  1. Hint for oil..... Change it about 3 times in a one month period....filter and all. Works very well as a flush except you don not have to risk using flushing agents in the Zed. When I bought my zed and took the filler cap off after a run, I could see smoke coming off the oil. Did the £ changes in one month and sonce then (change the oil every 1500 miles regardless) I get no smoke from the filler spout. Seems a bit OTT I know but doing things this way really does protect the engine (almost) regardless of how you drive the car. Worth thinking about...depending on your level of neurosis of course....
  2. One thing that I have noticed..... After I got the Zed back from JeffTT, I never used the turbos until last week when overtaking a cheiftan tank (no I`m not mad, I have an army ordnance supply depot about 5 miles from my house). The tank was going 40ish at the time...thought I`d put the foot down a bit to get past and OMG!!!! The faster the Zed went, the more acceleration there was. Never felt anything like it in my life. foot was only about 1/2 way down but bloody hell! Was almost at the ton before I realised what the f*** was happening. See what you mean about the 0-60 though but this thing is venomously, evilly fast from 50-100. Can`t imagine anything touching it. But then again, I`ve never seen a Mondeo.....sorry Skyline go from 50-100. Might be interesting.
  3. A funny occurence and a question... Was trotting into the office today, behind an Escort, no geat rush. Didn`t see behind but a Mitsi Evo VII trying to make a point blasted past, engine screaming away, when a plume of blue smoke appeared from his tail..posible turbo seal perhaps...prat. Anyways, my zed with mods has around 430BHP. How do you folk think it would cope with an Evo or M3/M5 on a 0-60 basis. I am a bit of a grandad and very rarely use the turbos but do get a bit annoyed with the M3 factor, ie getting as close as possible to your rear bumper before overtaking. Stock 0-60 is about 5.6 secs with 280BHP, so how fast do you reckon a Zed can go with 150BHP more? Just wondering....
  4. And what are you telling the poor owner Jeff!!!!? I know I`m a bit nuts about my old thunder but shit! This poor person must be next best to heartbroken.....or is it just me?? Mind you though, you can get sold a real nail if you are not careful. When I was looking for my Zed, there was a nice looking one in Gloucester for £6K. Nice until you got past the filler that is. BTW, the old thunder is perfect, cheers mate.
  5. I did not know the Zed existed until about four years back when I was followng one in my s13 and thought "300zx..hmmm" On the other hand, I used to walk past a GTO every day at uni and thought it looked storming...yeah...storming. However, if I owned one, I wouldn`t find excuses to walk into the garage just to see it. The Zed gets me every time there and when it comes down to it, it don`t matter what fancy driving aids you got on your car if you screw up at 100mph, you`re still dead. Which is another thing about the Zed. I`ve never owned a car that I respect so much and that makes you feel so much a part of it when you drive....sheer perfection. Dunno what all this has to do with the GTO mind you, since I`ve never even driven one but not to get a Zed when you can must be in the dictionary somewhere under madness.
  6. Hey folks, I have a damnit stupid question for you but I gotta ask. Recently bought a second car so the Zed can rest up a bit. At the minute its sitting in the garage, alarmed and with battery connections on. If I`m only using it once a week or less, should I be switching the alarm off or disconnecting the battery to prevent it completely discharging? I know a lot of you have second cars so what do you do? Cheers Steve

The way the Zed handles standard is good enough and besides with a decent sized set of rims you'll have no space for lowering! If the handling is a bit off, get the dampers and front tension rod bushes replaced...lowering springs seem a bit pointless then IMHO
  8. Regarding a forwarding address: Neither your estate agent or solicitor can pass such information on without your recorded consent, such would conflict with the data protection act. So as long as you do not agree for your address to be disclosed, you should be OK If I was you though, I would get the stuff shifted, you`ll have enough hassle just moving without having another Joe up your butt.....
  9. I think Andy is right. looking at the service manual, it seems that the whole rear suspension is supported by the dampers. That`s a hell of a lot of strain. Yeah, go for dampers first... Steve
  10. Hmm...Preston huh? I know its a fairly big place but I don`t suppose you know a bloke up there by the name of Kester do ya?
  11. Hmm, the big four huh? It has been apparent to me for a while that this forum is very clicky but I didn`t really worry about it too much. People can say what they feel and not be afraid to in any forum, be it on the internet or other medium. However, coming up with a comment the likes of "the Tamworth pygmy" shows about as much respect as asking a white farmer in Zimbabwe how his crop went this year. Blatantly insulting, rude, ignorant and not the sort of comment I would expect from you Andy. You always semed like a reeeally cool bloke. Ho hum, still, my "glowing reccomendation" stands.
  12. New laws mwan that you have to take the logbook and things to the shopwhen you need a new number plate. Upside is that the small front number plate mount can now legally be fitted with a small number plate (before you had to say it was a display plate only). In addition I think (correct me on this one) I think it only applies to imported cars, as this would be the "normal" plate in the country of export. still, if the 99+ spec is now Nissans standard, it should apply for all UK Zeds fitted with the part too.....hmmm Still, get one...they look the balls, especially with the small number plate
  13. Sorry man, can`t hear a damnation thing over the exhausts. Still, I know what you mean though. My zed seemed slower for a while there. then I was without it for a week and driving my old series 1 MR2. When I got back into the zed I nearly killed me and the wife by putting my foot down a bit. You get used to it you know.....used to the respect/fear thing. I operate by a general rule....if the smoke coming out of the back looks bad...there`s something up. And no, I still do not have the large sized balls enough to floor my old thunder. Normal relations go something like this: Right foot down = goodbye everbody (including a Lotus elise that was becoming tiresome). Certainly hope you get it sorted and things though.....strange.. you somehow just know when your car is not right..... yeah?
  14. Just a word to the wise recently got fed up with the tatty state of the front bumper on my 1990 TT jap import. Asked Nissan for a new one and was told they could not supply. apparently the 99+ front bumper is now "original" spec. Called insurers with this "modification and had to fight like a git until they saw my point. They even called Nissan to find out if I was lying or not (trust is a beautiful thing), So if your old front bumper is bad, get a 99+ style. It cannot be classed as a modification, new laws on plates mean that you get a nice small front number plate and the 99+ bumper looks the balls. Nissan just get it so right sometimes. Just thought I should share..........take care all (bad weather is coming)
  15. Too right man, My advice: stay away from Nissan dealers. They seem to have as much idea about the 300ZX as I do about the rear end of Pluto. I have ben on the beer a bit so inhibitions aside I can say that Jeff is a fine bloke and this forum does not give him enough credit (a general statement not reflecting on all members). Make your own minds up from direct experience. If you din`t try the wine, you cannot comment on its taste. That`s all. Take care folks
  16. Mixed feelings indeedy! I shall refrain from my usual "Jeff is excellent" rhetoric and give just ONE example: Took the Zed to the most reputable Nissan dealer I could find in my region for its 60K service. Paid a tad under £850 for the pleasure and a short while later, a hose came off the water pump (they had replaced) causing the Zed to overheat on the way to Malvern. Got it back to the dealer and was told that it was all my fault as I did not tell them the car was an import and that due to this error on my behalf, both head gaskets needed changing (for which they wanted £5K) and that this might only be the tip of the iceberg. Managed to get in touch with Jeff via a recommendation and took my Zed down to him. After exhaustive tests (which he did free of charge) the heads were found to be utterly fine and all that was wrong with the car was filthy throttle bodies for which he charged me £15. He had every chance to either screw me over or screw up, neither of which occured. Seting up shop as a car repair outfit brings with it a titanic amount of responsibility, especially in this case with the type of car in question. Even a slight error can lead to tragedy but in my DIRECT experience, Zedworld offers every little bit the dedicated and vigilant service required to make such tragedy the exception to the rule.
  17. Just wanted to share my joy at only having one week until I get me Zed back again. It`s been at Jeffs for almost a month now having little bits and bobs done. Just bought an espace as a second car.....bit of a difference to the Zed, should be fun driving back. By the way, mine`s an auto and I must say that while it may not be as quick as a manual it is faster top end (if not by much) but I always think the engine is safer from damage being linked to an auto tranny. The revs generally keep lower and having driven a manual I`m glad to have bought an auto. My parents car is an auto (jag) and the box in the Zed just blows it away for sheer engine control. Just my opinion but I thing the auto box suits the grand tourer better than the hassle of forever changing gears. That having been said, I am 30 this year so there`s probably a good deal of grandad factor starting to creep in here.;)
  18. only prob i ever had was duff battery. the guys are absolouto righto....this is no mondeo. Lots of TLC and lots of care when buying (we all wanted to avoid a shed) and it will be all good. We all want to avoid the unexpected but then if you want boring Ford reliability you gotta buy a boring Ford (oh yeah, that ST24 now that`s a car!!) Know what I mean? All japes aside though, for a supercar, my old thunder starts each morning, every morning without fail. treat it right and it will treat you right. As my gramp used to say " the more you flog a car the more your garage bills will cost". Never a truer word said about a ZED.
  19. Just because your car has done 120K, don`t necessarily mean there is a fantastic amount of wear. Mine has done just over 70K and feels much tighter than a couple I test drove that had only done 30-40K. Its largely dependent upon how the car is driven. Excessive turbo usage means that the turbos will wear much more quickly. If your car has been driven largely grandad style (like me) then chances are the turbos are not that badly worn, even at 120K. Compression test is the way to go though, just to be sure. Prety cheap too. My last one cost £25 (much better than the £92 +vat that nissan quoted)
  20. I`m scared! When me Zed was in for its shiny new 99 front bumper and I had me old MR2 again, I carried out an intermediate service, changed the complete exhaust system and replaced all four injectors. That was the MR2.....the Zed I wouldn`t touch with a barge pole! I know my limits and the Zed is waaaay beyond them. Like I said......I`m scared! Maybe I`d top up fluids if needed but that is as far as it goes!
  21. thanks folks! Could any of you point me at an article or explain how I can check the injector connectors? Thanks very much again
  22. Incidentally guys, how come is it that the only three times I`ve posted here wanting help, none of you have responded? I really could use a few tips here..... Hope alls well for you and yours over the holidays...my sincere best wishes for one and all..... Steve
  23. Hey all...I`m wearing me Santa hat! seriously though, there`s a quick Q. Had my front tension rod bushes replaced recently. A higly reccomended move, front end feels as sharp as a knife! However, it has exposed a weakness in my rear end...left hand lock is cool but the car does slide gradually on mid speed righties. I`m having the rear dampers replaced in January...reckon this will cure it or is there something else I need to be looking at? BTW: A check on all injector connections is cool too. Had one fixed about a fortnight back but another has gone now....car`s running smoothly at idle but no power and very sporadic acceleration. While winters here, might be worth checking out. Happy Chrimbly to one and all!
  24. Only one down side now I`ve noticed...... My off side side light was cracked and Luke replaced the lens. Frank put the assembly back in....looks fantastic but unfortunately, he didn`t check whether it was working or not. Now I`ve gotta change the sidelight bulb myself...okay, small point but thoroughness is the name of the game. Niggly point though, overall I`m very pleased. frank has blended the paint in very well and I`m more than happy with the finish and fitting. Fare thee well.......
  25. Another thing for sure is this... You do a good job and people want to know why you can`t do it better. You give your all and your boss wants your all and some more. Regardless of input, we are all just a heartbeat away from being made obsolete. Redundancy payments aside, job security is a lost goal these days it seems. I can say this with the luxury of owning my own company. None of my staff are going in the near future but they are all worried, not about their jobs but about their partner`s jobs. Seems that it is fairly bad out there for a lot of folk and it is such a damn shame. I really do personally hope that things get better for you guys and gals next year. I hope even more than my hope is not a folorn one. There are more than cars at stake here, there are lives, wives and childrens`s futures. To many employers, these are nothing......nothing but a name and a number....what the world is coming to....I`m only 29 and it seems an alien place to me...... Sorry to sound so down, I just feel sorry for ya.... Very best wishes Steve
