  1. Have been searching the archives and seen quite a few threads about the fast road auto box rebuild a la Mac1. Could anyone answer a couple of questions? 1/ On the subject of changedowns.. when slowing down for a junction, my box stays in the highest gear it can unless the car sops moving. Should the box on a Zed change down gears as it slows as I`ve experienced in other auto cars ? 2/ When accelerating in a sensible fashion:) and the car locks in on third, engaging the overdrive while still on the hot pedal makes the revs increase as the box comes out of lock and into 4th. This wouldn`t be so bad except that revs shoot up by more than they drop when the box locks a gear in. Is this normal? Apologies if I`m being stupid here....I`ve looked through the archives quite a bit but can`t seem to find an answer there.
  2. Straps have gone to Vijay. Sorry to disappoint you Tim (and others who mailed) Best wishes

I have a z centre drivers seat leather kit sitting in a box on my dining room floor right now (thanks Luke) and it is very very good. Also, £500 aint bad from my point of view. Took the car to a local interior specialist a while back and they wanted £190 + VAT for recovering the drivers seat alone.
  4. Feel pretty bad having to let someone down here.... Whoever mails me their address first can have them, I`ll send them from the office tomorrow.
  5. Hi folks... I recently bought a set of targa bags and straps from AndyZ (cheers Andy!) but have found out since that I already have the straps fitted to my car (all hidden under the space saver). So if anyone wants to pay the postage, they can have the straps for nowt. Not sure where Andy got them but they look brand new! Take care all
  6. Yeah Duff maybe you should....Nissan wanted £5K in labour off me for a headgasket swap. Since their technicians took about 3 hours to work out my car is an import, reckon you should be aiming nearer the £7K mark....! Hope all goes well with your poorly Zed. Mine overheated once and I got away with it (phew!) but seems like bad news all round. Best of luck!!!
  7. DO NOT DO IT! NO! NO! NO! nuff said...sincerely hope all goes well....good luck:)
  8. And the boy racers get on the streets in their Zed...hit another car, bike, building etc......claims on their insurance and what do you know....schmucks like us pick up the bill for it! Ain`t life grand........
  9. JeffTT has one on his and yup..looks pretty good. Too true about the weight too....vvv heavy our old rubber ones. Would recommend from visual experience. Still, think I may still go for one of Luke`s low level rear spoilers......
  10. Is the Zed going out of fashion or something? I`ve never seen so many for sale. Even when I was looking for mine about a year back they were like gold dust, now they`re at dealers, on ebay, autotrader, everywhere and lots of em! Are we experiencing a migration from the Zed or are these all just fly by night zedders?
  11. Yup.....got it..here you go 0800 298 5555 Best of luck!!
  12. You know, I can`t remember it....its an 0800 though... I did a search on the forum and found the number there...I`ll have another look...
  13. That is why I asked chappie to fax me the quote details over. It all looks exactly as it should. 1991 Imported 2+2 TT: cost of premium = not much. Isn`t it a bugger though that when something goes well I have to ask what the catch is? I`ll let you know if all goes south but for right now it all looks good.;)
  14. Thought I`d tell you all about my good news! With Lifesure right now and paid them £1300 last year (30 year old, no NCB). Gottthe renewal notice through today and they wanted just over a grand for this years premium. Was ringing round getting a few quotes (anything from £1800-£950) and tried Carole Nash. They quoted me £359! Yup, a saving of around 700 squids. Its a classic policy too, so I can add the NCB from last year on the policy fo my everyday driver. Asked the guy why it was so cheap, asked again, asked to have the details faxed through to me.....looked at details and can`t find the catch.....is there a catch with classic policies? Happy...happy....happy Zedder!!!!!:D :D

I have exactly the same problem. Had the speedo and dials changed and speed delimited. My symptoms are exactly the same as yours. Mine was not the speed sensor though, as I`ve just had a new one put on and the symptoms are still present. Will try another speedo next, see what good that does me. Good luck with yours though
  16. In which case, I should bow down and apologise...I was just quoting from a chat I had with Luke when we were discussing whether I should get a stage 1 chip or not to remap the fuel settings. Seemed to make sense to me though. If a car gives 280 hp using 100ron fuel and you give it 95 ron instead, shouldn`t a 5% decrease in output (266hp) be the logical result? Or maybe I`m spouting.....just seemed to be a case of simple maths though.....
  17. Which is the point I was trying to make...... In Japan my Zed would have had 280 horses with 100 RON fuel. With average fuel in the UK being 93-95, the resultant effect is to reduce the horsepower of imports to around 260-265 in the UK. That`s what I meant, just that thinking because a Zed has 280 horses in Japan don`t mean it has that amount of power here. Apologies for any confusion caused:)
  18. Just keep Duff away from this guy willya? Seriously though...might be an interesting question. When I bought my imported TT, I thought it had 280 horses. Found out from Luke later that the RON difference Jap vs UK reduces stock jap TT`s to about 260 horses. I remember the days when I beat my first Saxo with relish... (I was on roller skates at the time though....):D
  19. Thanks very much for your help. Looks like I`m off down the the local wheel refurbers....:D :D
  20. Seems to be a national trend to get replacement wheels for the Zed but I really quite like the originals (think its the Z logo in the centre that does it for me) but mine are quite tatty Anyone here had a refurb job done on stock wheels and if so, what kind of results did you get?
  21. Thought I`d admit a little bout of stupidity Was looking at the front end of the car last week and saw a wire dangling. Found the other end and connected the circuit. Car ran like pants for a little while but improved over the next day or two. Three days later the lights stopped working. thinking it might have something to do with the wires I had reconnected, I took the indicator and fog light unit out. Whatever these wires were, I don`t know but they had melted into each other and shorted. Separated an insulated them and all appears to be good. Anyone here know what this circuit is? It affected the sidelight/dipped beam circuit only, main beam was fine. Could they be connections for another (unused) anciliary light somewhere? Mines a jap import and I can`t make enough sense of the wiring diagram to work out what it was that I reconnected. Any ideas???
  22. Nah man..is there another? I`m feeling quite lonely out here! Where did you used to go, Burton Borough or Adams Grammar? I went to Castle House when I was a kid.....stuff me, a guy who knows Newport! Mine is grey...seen me? Be good to meet up though. Fellow Zedders are pretty thin on the ground out here in the sticks
  23. What you talkin about robotor.....can`t get something for nothing indeed! Pah! Phooey! I am (or at least was) a sciency sort too and on more than one occaision while at uni, I managed to get in a whole nights drinking without buying a single round! I can understand the physics of that, even thought I am just a lowly chemist:D Seriously though, I wonder about the validity of either method. Sounds a bit like the *power booster* an aquaintance of mine has on his Supra. Is supposed to use a permanent magnet to line up the molecules in petrol for more efficient burning. Sounds like a crock to me unless it manipulates dipole moments which must be too weak to be affected by slapping a permanent magnet around your fuel line. Idoit really thinks it works though......hey ho
